I’ve been playing around with options that limit ordinance to grenades and primary weapons here for a few minutes. While doing so, an idea that’s always been kinda bouncing around in my head resurfaced once again. As I set all the weapon choices in personal ordinance to primary weapons and grenades (with a slight chance of a powerup) I found myself wishing I could get more specific with the parameters. What I wanted to do was make a power weapon available to people who can survive and earn it. However, you only get one kind of ordinance drop, and that’s when it hit me; ordinance tiers.
Now I know what you may be thinking. “Oh god, not killstreaks, go away noob!” or something along those lines (hopefully more polite), but that’s not what I’m thinking. Remember how in invasion slayer you unlocked better weapon classes in your loadouts as you progressed through the round? Think of it kind of like that. In the first third of the game (0-200 score) your PO comes relatively quickly. However, all you get is grenade refills, a new loadout tier weapon, or ammo for what you have. In this first part of the game, it’ll be important for teams to secure stronger weapons on the map and establish control in this stage of the game. Once you break past that stage into the second third of the game (200-400), the pace gets escalated by the introduction of lower tier power weapons such as the needler, SAW, shotgun, etc. into the personal ordinance. It will be replacing the selection for a new loadout weapon from the previous ordinance choices. These weapons will allow players to quicken the pace of the game, and either further establish or take control from their opponents. The one caveat is that ordinance will take longer to earn due to the presence of more powerful weapons. Once you hit the final part of the game (400-600), you hit the final tier of personal ordinance. This grants you access to the big guns and powerups. Unlike the last tier, however, they will not replace a section, but rather be added into the rotation with the lower tier power weapons. In this section of the game, you’re either closing out a win, or attempting a comeback, so the presence of high powered weapons is there to facilitate either of those.
So that’s pretty much the gist of it. I haven’t gotten in depth in my thought process about it but ill list a few other ideas I had pop up as I typed this.
Personal ordinance drop points
One change that could benefit not only this idea I came up with, but probably general personal ordinance would be specific locations from which you could call your own ordinance. They wouldn’t have to be few in number, but having specific areas where you needed to go to call your drop would somewhat facilitate map control, seeing as in order to call your drop, you’d need control over a certain area.
Ordinance being public knowledge
Another idea I had was making your calling ordinance knowledge shared throughout all the players. Maybe this should be restricted to higher tier weaponry, but this knowledge would give other teams a heads up that their opponent or ally has a certain weapon (or maybe just the tier of the weapon) queued up for delivery. Additionally, pointing out where it was called in as a waypoint wouldn’t do to much harm, considering it already makes an explosive appearance in the first place.
Delayed delivery
Delaying the delivery by maybe 5 or 10 seconds would do well to encourage clashes when coupled with the previous ideas. It would turn personal ordinance into more than just a weapon, but also an objective, and teams would have the option to contest each others ordinance drops.
That’s all I’ve got. Lemme know what you guys think
