As many of you may know that dual weilding was removed after halo 3 which was a beloved feature. This was because it made the weapons that used this feature incredibly weak when they were single weilded.
In halo 4 in CTF the flag carrier has the renowned flagnum which is slightly more powerful that the regular magnum.
So I was thinking why not have the opposite when dual weilding for example.
The magnum lets say kills in 5 shots normally (minimum) but when it’s dual weilded and only when it’s dual weilded it takes 7/8 to compensate for the extra shots being fired. However it retains a marginally faster kill time than the single weilded magnum to make dualweilding worth usong besides looking awesome and being able to fire more rapidly.

I think rather than altering damage, perhaps for single wielding, weapons can have better accuracy + less recoil + faster reload.
In turn, for dual wielding, there will be less accuracy (bigger reticle (more spread) and closer lock-on (PP)), more recoil and slower reload.
Possible alteration is rate of fire (perhaps slower for dual wielding and faster for single wielding)
I too would like to see a return.

This I would prefer but there will always be someone who can control the accuaracy perfectly =(

In Warframe, a game I’ve been playing for some time.
Dual wield weapons have a higher fire rate, larger bullet spread, and slower reload.
The damage on said weapons are the same, but I think OP is on to something, single weapons have a damage boost. The main problem with dual wields is balance, it’s hard to balance single wield and dual wield without make the other wield weaker or stronger.
After playing Halo 3 as part of games for gold, I’m not convinced that I want dual-wielding back.
It was a cool concept but it’s practicality and usefulness are extremely limited. Complicating the weapon sandbox to accommodate DW is a lot of effort for minimal benefit. I’d rather 343 work to make the individual weapons behave better in relationship to one another, rather than trying to get the smaller weapons work well individually and then combined with another.
If 343 can pull it off, I’m all for it. But I can’t figure out a way to make it work.

Agreed, personally I’m not going to beg for Dual Wielding, if we get it, yay, I hope it’s balanced. If we don’t get it, oh well.
If dual wielding is demanded back into the game by the community and 343i put it in there, but can’t balance it, keep it to PvE game modes like spartan ops, firefight, and campaign, where balance isn’t really an issue.

It should be custom game option so if it cant be balanced in multiplayer and they remove it people can still use the feature.
All the posts have good points. I really want to see DW return. It was one of those things that made you really feel like a Spartan, and it allowed for some interesting tactics/strategy depending on what combinations you took. Aside from all of the above points, if it truly returns, I hope 343i will make it so there is a real profit in making specific winning combinations (pistol + PP for instance, neither of which you would use normally). I agree that it should be built primarily with PVE modes in mind (that’s where it shines), but I also think it’s possible to make it work for Multiplayer (though its benefits will be less apparent with faster kill times).
Making the duals have a bigger spread is a good start, but decreasing the damage in semi-autos is over kill. To offset this, we make the halo 5 pistol the halo 3 pistol but with a scope. We retain the ability to three shot someone when dual wielding them, but at the cost of grenades, and a shorter effective range. That worlds for me.
Why would you weaken a gun when dual wielding? That just defeats the purpose of it.
2 > 1, so 2 guns should be better than 1 gun.

To balance the game which many people want, it would still be more powerful in a sense. If they can perfect the lower accuarcy then it can retain the damage.

One problem the halo 3 magnum is weak single wielded compared to other games.

Well put

The Halo 3 magnum is one that shouldn’t return. The Halo 2 magnum would work with dual-wielding perfectly. It had the fire-rate, but it’s damage was lacking. Which made it shine especially as a dual-weapon.

I’d be fine with that it would be a good compromise.
So you mean how it was in Halo 3? Dual wielding was almost completely pointless in that game and all the dual weapons lacked personality on their own.
The marginally faster killtimes from dual wielding were outweighed by the ability to grenade and melee.
The issue is that if you nerf the dual wielding damage it is pointless and if you don’t change the damage the single wield weapons are nerfed in order to balance it out against everything else.
It would be much better to focus on a unique and varied single wield sandbox than try and squeeze in a superficial mechanic like dual wielding.
I like the fact that dual wield weapons are weaker when single wielded. The point of having two weapons is to make the user more powerful. They will be like Semi Power weapons, you will have to obtain both for them to make a significant contribution, with that being said you will have to know where both are located and time how often they spawn. #SkillGap

Its nice when theyre weaker but sometimes they become too weak and almost pointless.

It depended upon which weapons you used, some where made too weak due to the mechanic that even dual wielded. Dual plasma pistols or dual SMGs absolutely owned. It all depends on the scale of the nerf, if it was only a two shot difference the kill times would make up with it due to the doubled ROF
In Halo 2 people dual wielded all the time but in Halo 3 I didn’t see it very often but I would like it to return.
