Hey there, it’s Mac and today I want to discuss Halo 4 multiplayer.
I know there are people out there who ultimately DESIRE a ranked playlist. And those who ultimately want a classic playlist.
So I have come up with some sort of idea on the playlists. This probably wont happen in this particular way, but read it anyway.
The War Games
This will be where all of Halo 4’s new ideas will come into play (Custom loadouts, AAs etc). Available gametypes could include:
Free For All
Team Slayer
Team Objective
Big Team Battle
Invasion (plz?)
Ranked
This will be where the true-skill system will take place. With the absense of 1-50 we’ll probably see something else. This will be a more classic Halo feel without War Games’ new additions (No AAs, no Custom loadouts etc). Gametypes could include:
Lone Wolves (Ranked FFA)
Ranked Slayer
Ranked Objective
SWAT
Ranked Big Team
MLG
Ranked snipers (???)
Social
Social will function simillar to Ranked but with no true-skill system
Community
Where the insane gametypes will be:
Action Sack
Insane (plz?)
Custom Game Browser (plz?)
Grifball
This is just a theory and please tell me what you think.
First of all, you have way too many playlists. If you divide the community over too many playlists, each playlist will have a low population, meaning trueskill won’t work.
Personally, I would cut down on the non-competitive playlists. Halo 3 worked fine without grifball, infection, … as playlists. And when those appeared in the weekend, they were twice as fun to play. (We play Halo to play Halo, after all) We should just throw all of those in the ‘action sack’ playlist imo, and optimise voting options so the fans always get a chance to pick their favorite.
‘War Games’ and ‘social’ sound functionally identical. They should just be the same section. And it’s not because you’re in a social playlist that you shouldn’t play against people of your own skill. As with all other previous Halo games, social too should match people according to a number that is kept behind the scenes.
You also didn’t include a full out classic playlist. Ranked Matchmaking without the AAs and custom loadouts would be great, but you didn’t include an option for those who prefer to play without sprint.
And lastly, Invasion is confirmed not to be in the game anymore, though I’m positive it could return in Spartan Ops.
I think that we could have a 1-50 system in ranked playlists but your 1-50 rank don’t affect your overall rank as in H3. So anyone can be highest rank but not everyone can be a 50

MLG comes under ranked.
And ranked will have no sprint either, or any of the new additions and neither will social.
EDIT: Yes the non-ranked playlists hould have a behind the scenes number but not visible.

It could work similar to 1-50.

ye sorry, read over that a bit too quickly. My bad.
And in that case, yeah I personally would love that playlist setup
but I doubt the casuals who want all the new trinkets will like this, as it is well over 50% ‘classic’.
Halo has always been a friendship game. You went out to someone that had Halo:CE on their xbox to play. So now you have it. You play only with people with friends (Referring to Halo Reach GUI), it’s nothing wrong with that but with the hostile internet and stuff it feels so dead to have that. We need a list that can search for “custom games” AKA drop in session games. If you willingly host a custom game you should be put a setting if people can drop in or not. This will bring more maps easier and can be put on matchmaking itself. Gametypes that are REALLY popular can be added in time.
Though I agree with Daitor, too many playlists will divide the community. So stick to weekend announcement or mid-week announcement like steam does. Do not announce a month before, just tell the people to play that game to be updated and if they do they get rewarded with information about new gametypes/maps/map-variation etc.
People will complain about this real rapidly since everyone want’s to know everything in before hand, but the logic of this is to just that… stay, play, enjoy and constant available content in small doses.
There is something I wish for Halo 4 most of all and it’s a wish that’s hard to think out but very easy to say.
I do not want the halo feel at all, with that I mean who cares about the feeling about halo 4. That is not why I loved Halo:CE at all. It was the way they handled the 1v1v1 campaign. Never in my gaming history I played such game in a FPS. This made the game dynamic and had different outcome every time you play.
That’s the only reason I love games over all, the idea to to grasp variation.
Like I said, easier said than done.
They better release more info on MM and ranking during E3 or else all hope is lost fort his game.
Halo 4 doesn’t need to launch with a bunch of playlists, the default multiplayer setting need to be fun and competitive for everyone so we don’t have to tweak everything for different communities within the halo population. All of the changes they have made to the game can be competitive and fun for everyone as long as they are done correctly so give them a chance before you start demanding new playlists. Also as long as they match players of equal skill I personally don’t care about a rank, and I am pretty sure War Games is the competitive playlists for Halo 4.
