An Idea for Infinite

Alright, I’ll keep this short and sweet as I don’t see a need to drag it out for too long. What are your guys’ thoughts on Infinite allowing your MP Spartan to explore the ring in like a “freeroam” style after the campaign is over?

I honestly think it’d be pretty cool to just explore the ring and kill isolated groups of enemies here and there and just drive/pilot anything the sandbox has to offer. Maybe even fly in some air vehicles. It just seems like it’d be an awesome thing to experience without having any objectives.

Neat idea. I can maybe see this as end-game content for the campaign? After the final mission, you have the entire ring unlocked and you can maybe complete some post-campaign missions?

This fits in well with an idea that’s been kicked around since halo 3 dropped with forge back in 07.
When the technology is right. Which by series x I sure hope it is. They should let us forge the single player campaign. Maybe segments at a time as in However much of the world the game loads up. Giving us the chance to explore. Build little bases. Tweak enemy load outs and what types of enemies we face. Allowing us to create our own campaigns and firefights

Yea that would be great to just explore after ur done with the campaign so it doesn’t just kick u out when your done with the campaign. That a perfect 10/10 idea right there.

Someone recently wrote this exact same idea, and yeah I think that would be cool.

Could be cool yeah though if it’s your multiplayer Spartan then I’d like to see something similar to a Spartan Ops mode just for canonical purposes.

4 player mode, couple missions clearing out the remaining banished forces or something.

I think not having the ring available to explore post campaign would be a waste of the asset. It looks like such an interesting space and we’ve only seen a small portion so far.

I genuinely had no idea. Did they copy it from here and post it in another thread after or did we both just have the same idea?

That was my thoughts exactly. Having this vast ring to explore just in campaign would be a waste if we couldn’t check it out after the events of Infinite and it’d totally be cool with a few missions here and there, that allow our MP Spartan, with 3 other friends (using their MP Spartans) to carry them out. The canonical reasoning is just the icing on the cake for this (and I am big into my lore)

Haha it was a post about it a couple of weeks back, it didn’t get too many responds though, which is a shame, this idea should be hyped
I’d also wan’t it to be like a side story, but unlike spartan ops I’d like them to not have you respawn unlimited times though, rather checkpoints if you are alone and depending on your friends to go to safe locations where you can respawn if on co-op, like in regular campaign.
Also spartan ops was very clearly balanced for 4 people, throwing in countless fuelrod enemies every new wave, got a bit boring on solo, I’d like if they found a better way of balancing, and making it fun for those who want to do it alone too. But easier said than done I guess.
But yeah like more fun and open world version of spartan ops could be interesting.

I think there’s a whole lot of potential with the open world. Extra missions, DLC, world events etc. With Infinite being a multi year platform for Halo I think they can really do a lot to the space if they wanted to.

I used to be very against the idea of a open world Halo game but it’s grown on me quite a bit since seeing the gameplay demo.

I am the exact same. When they first announced it was open world I was very upset as open world games typically bore me if they don’t sustain my interest, but then when I thought about it more, and heard others opinions on what 343 could do with this open world, it had me hyped. The Day-Night cycles is something I’m really interested in seeing. I can just imagine me and my friends driving around the ring using nothing but our Hog’s headlights to see where we are going. I can imagine a lot of crazy and funny things happening with this idea of the Day-Night cycle.

Ah for sure,
I think what put me off was that the only “open world” halo game prior to this was ODST. Not that ODST was a bad game but it just felt a bit empty.

With a new engine and new consoles I’m hoping the world can be quite fleshed out, I’m sure there’s a whole debate for older consoles holding the game back etc but I’ll leave that debate for another time.

I feel like Infinite is really going to hammer it home. Have a nice world with enemies patrolling, interesting architecture and environments to explore. I want to feel compelled to go and explore every location.

I think this could be a cool way to facilitate some cool postgame content. Could be a fun new way to frame something more like traditional Firefight in terms of a horde defense type mode in (relatively) contained plays paces within the larger map as well as (hopefully much better) SpOps style missions (maybe that scale a bit around how many players there are? Heroic shouldn’t be nearly as hard as it is solo in much of H4 SpOps, for example-- it just seems like it’s always designed for 2-4 players in terms of number of active hostiles at a time/spawn locations, etc.)

I still think a fun and fairly easy (conceptually) move would be to allow players subsequent to a party leader to use their MP Spartans in campaign Co-op and fight alongside the Chief (P1). It’d be non-canon, but so is every other campaign co-op to lesser or greater extents (clone players, Arby in contradictory locations in single/co-op play in H3, etc.), so it seems like a good place to let the rule of cool dictate action.

Actually the co-op characters in H3, H4 - Spartan Ops exclusively, and H5 were canon. Most people know Halo 4 Spartan Ops and H5 co-op is canon, but not Halo 3. I just kinda wish in this free roam type mode that I was discussing in the original post, no matter the fireteam size, is canon, whether that be solo or with 3 other friends.

I’m still kinda hoping that 343 make the co-op characters in Halo Infinite’s main campaign canon, even if it does use the player’s MP model, but I think I heard mention that they’ll just be Chief clones, however with the delay that could be due to change, I’ve got my fingers crossed anyway.

BeastSprayz good points on SpOps and H5 Campaign. I always most loved to think of the H3 campaign as the two player co-op version with Chief n’ Arby fighting together through the whole thing, but the P3 and P4 “random” Elites (I know they’re technically characters, but barely) never really worked for me. I’d always assumed that the single player campaign w/ Arbiter popping in and out of the action intermittently was the “true canon” version of H3, though.

I’m always super wary of folks asking for SpOps to make a comeback–I really didn’t care for the H4 SpOps and was positively incensed at it being the “replacement,” for Reach FF at the time it came out. I think the basic idea of something like SpOps is cooler than the execution it got in H4, but I still always shudder a bit over the association I have with the original SpOps.

Some kind of Ring Roam PvE mode aimed at solo and cooperative players where we can use our MP Spartans is certainly a cool idea, though. I think it could really be a great way to get the best of a lot of the classic PvE elements like Firefight and SpOps.
