An idea for Halo 5's UI

Halo 5 has come a long way, so has MCC and Halo Reach really, but I’m thinking they can go further.

I posted on the MCC forums, an idea directly addressed to Ske7ch. I’m trying to see what kind of support I can get for this idea. In short it is a release of all the Halo games as separate titles, with their own playlists and features, but sharing a Unified UI (like BF1 and BF4) the idea is basically an MCC done right, but I want to go further than that. I want to include Halo 5 too.

There are multiple complaints with Halo 5’s UI, it’s a common one I hear to be honest, and fixing it would be a great thing. But, as well as fixing it, we could also be adding in the option to jump between all the older Halo games too. The two birds one stone type of approach. The advantages of being able to jump between the games (and even having a Halo bundle that includes Halo 5) could see more sales and increased population for all games.
Which as of right now, all the Halo games need that.

We wouldn’t need a classic playlist in Halo 5, if just jumping to an actual classic game was an option. I’d hope that this type of UI would help all the Halo sub-communities be a bot more tolerant on each other too. Because there’d be working classic games, and the communities would spend more time playing together.

It’s also no secret that tensions are high because of the classic - modern divisions. I think if Classic Halo was supported better, and Halo 5 was integrated with classic Halo in this way that those tensions would be eased (a fair bit I think) Because all the games would be there, being supported, being kept a live, and the community wont have to choose one, they have all the games to enjoy.
I have more detail on the MCC thread ‘“Saving” Classic Halo’, but I’d like to see what kind of support there is for an improved unified UI in Halo 5, that allows the community to support all the Halo games, not just pick one. Would you support this?.

Example of a Unified UI

Could the Halo Channal act as a unified UI? The Halo App seems to support your idea. Link

I honestly dont understand why people dislike the Halo 5 UI. Could you explain a bit?

With work, yes. As it currently is it’s not quite there. But with the right updates, to support parties, and so that the Halo Channel was the front end menu of all the Halo games, then something like that would be perfect.

It’s laggy, generally uninformative, and kind of ugly.

First of all, it is not user friendly at all. Horizontal scrolling through hundreds of unorganized customization options is a chore to say that least. Over half of those options are skins that should be included in some sort of drop down menu, and please, for the love of god, some sort of organization. By rarity, alphabetical, I don’t really care, but just listing them as they’re unlocked is horrible.

Second of all, it’s very laggy, drops frames all the time, and doesn’t give you nearly as much information or nearly as many options… Who am I playing in this game? Who the -Yoink- knows?! Who is on my team? Who the -Yoink- knows?! Which one of the kids is screaming into the mic so I know who to mute? oh wait, I can’t do that… The post game report used to be a big complaint of mine, but they’ve added that so I have to give them some props for that.

Lastly, it’s just kind of ugly. There was a beautiful simplicity to the UIs of old, before Halo 4 that is. This, this, and this are what I’m talking about. They gave you all the information that you needed, tons of different options, and still managed to look really good to boot. The MCC even got a lot of this right, so how Halo 5 didn’t kind of blows my mind. Look at this! What went wrong?! The fact that there’s tons of early screenshots of Halo 5, and that the UI looks kind of amazing in those, but they decided to use what they did blows my mind.

Not a bad idea OP. I think most people would be interested in at least trying something like that. Personally, I just want something like Halo Reach. I wasn’t big on reach as a whole, but there pre game lobby and UI was by far one of the best I’ve seen.

It would be awesome if they linked MCC, Halo 5, Spartan Assault, and the upcoming Halo Wars HD and Halo Wars 2 games through the UI of all of those games. If they could even include the 360 games it would be beyond amazing. The Halo Channel kind of already has this build in, but no one uses that. A unified UI design across all Halo games, similar to what Battlefield is doing right now, would be ideal. I doubt they are going to do anything though. 343i seems either too busy or too uninterested to do anything like that. They seemingly want to keep as far away from MCC as possible, and I doubt they will go back and touch up Spartan Assault at all. The 360 games are out of the question, and if they haven’t gotten the message on Halo 5’s UI yet I doubt they will now. The only sliver of hope would be to somehow integrate MCC into the upcoming server browser. Like I said though, I doubt that will ever happen.

ok, now that you mention it i have complained about one of these things one time or another. I guess i just didnt really care that much to notice it but now it really bothers me.

Halo 3 and reach had the best UIs i think.
