An Idea for Bringing back Dual-Wielding

A pretty simple idea, but I think it’d work without having the problem of the dual-wielding weapons being underpowered when only using one. Bring back the SMG and Plasma Rifle, and have their unique quirk BE dual-wielding, only those two guns can be dual-wielded, making them stand out. Make the SMG the current devastating bullet hose the AR is at close range, but obviously not at medium range. And Plasma Rifle is Plasma Rifle, bring it back or I will riot, and possibly others.

Sounds like a solid idea to me. Honestly, whether they’re dual-wieldable or not, both weapons fulfill a role that isn’t really covered by the UNSC and Covenant weapons we’ve seen in game so far.

When are you ever going to find a unit on either faction walking duel wielded with two opposite weapons on two factions? Or how will we be able to find the weapon, only together?

You can only stretch the balance of duel wielded so much to have it in game, but it just isnt going to work.

I feel like for nostalgia purposes; yes, these weapons would be liked in some form of a return, but dual-wielding was removed for a reason. It broke the flow of gameplay since the weapons themselves were practically useless unless paired with some sort of precision weapon, but if the only dual-wieldable weapons are two bullpup weapons then there will be no reason to use a shield stripping pair or a health stripping pair when switching to a precision weapon as a secondary will drop one of your dual-wielded weapons. Dual-wielding stops people from punching, sprinting, grenade-ing, and switching weapons. The trade off for that is simply doubling your weapon power; which mind you: in H3 and H2, the weapons actually lost power when dual-wielding, and in H3 it was actually better to use a single weapon over two of the same type because the kill times were quicker that way. Not to mention being able to toss nades and being able to punch without worry of your Mjolnir butterfingers slipping.

I honestly don’t think dual-wielding was that big of a hinderance, you could still melee/grenade without issue, just had to drop one of the guns, which tapping the melee button did automatically. My point is, make dual-wielding the niche of these weapons, or even just the SMG. It just doesn’t make sense to me to remove a feature that was added. Not every feature has to be useful, Bungie added it essentially just because they thought it was cool, and it was. Sometimes, things don’t need a reason beyond that to exist.

Just as a reminder: Bungie also removed dual-wielding, and for all the reasons I had mentioned. Dual-wielding was “cool,” but now it has no purpose, it simply limits the ability of certain weapons when they are only in the game to be paired up with another weapon that you have to spend your time looking for.

Dual wielding was not that big of an issue, don’t let them fool you OP. The only game it really didn’t work in was halo 2 and halo 2 had massive sandbox issues to begin with. Every dual wieldable weapon is essentially a “new” weapon and some of them in combination allowed for really unique/deadly combos. The only real problem with dual wielding is using 2 of the same weapons. It does create some sandbox redundancy but is at the cost of accuracy and range so there is a drawback.

Yeah, don’t worry I still stick by my opinion that dual-wielding never should’ve been removed. Even if Bungie did it themselves, I think it was a mistake. And I think reimplementing it, but limiting it to only one or two weapons, SMG and Plasma Rifle, I think that’d really work well. Because it’d be, ‘their’ niche. And not the niche of five different guns.

Dual wielding was really bad for the sandbox. It was bad in Halo 2 and it was bad in Halo 3. Tell me with honesty, if you ever felt the need to pick up or dual wield a spiker for instance. It crippled the entire sandbox and removing it was a good call on Bungie’s part. That being said, if they ever brought it back like how the OP is suggesting than I would be fine with having specific weapons being innately dual wielded as part of their quirk.

I’d love to have some dual wielding of classic weapons! It’d be great!

That is basically what I’m saying, yeah. I think it’d be a healthy way to bring them back. And to be honest, I dual-wielded almost every weapon possible. The only gun I would never opt to use dual-wielding, or at all really, was the Spiker. All the rest had value, at least to me. But yeah, SMG/Plasma Rifle having the specific quirk of dual-wielding would be best, I think.
