An FPS Halo Wars?

I really liked Halo Wars. The gameplay was okay, the cutscenes were phenomenal, and it told a great story. But the whole RTS style wasn’t my favorite compared to the action-packed FPS’s in the Halo series. So I thought, “Hey, what if 343i could create a FPS version of Halo Wars, or something like Halo Wars?” I really liked the way things played out in the cutscenes, like the epic Spartan scenes and that first cutscene with one of the first battles on Harvest. What I want is something along the lines of cutscene epicness made into a FPS. I would really enjoy being in the boots of a Marine, ODST, or even a Spartan in his/her MJOLNIR MK IV armor behind a good ol’ MA5B (the assault rifle featured in Halo: CE and Halo Wars). What do you guys think?

Are you trying to kill me?

Halo WARS is an RTS and that’s what it is. You can’t have wars and make an fps, it doesn’t make sense! That’s like If halo 4 was an RTS! As much as I’d love another halo wars, it would be wrong If halo 4 was an RTS.

Its time for a quick videogame history…
Command and Conquer was taken by EA, after the great success of Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars and Command and Conquer: Kane´s Wrath, EA got drunk on power and money so they think… WHY NOT DO A FPS*?
*Long time ago in the 90s WESTWOOD STUDIOS develop and release a very, very… terrible FTP based in the acclaimed RTS game Command and Conquer, almost 10 years later EA attempt to bring bad that terrible idea!
First was the debut trailer
Tiberium FPS
Suddenly EA show to the world how would be the game
Tiberium FPS gameplay
The first reaction were mixed but also very negative, because cross the end of story after C&C 3/C&C KW games.
The negative response from the gamers community pus the cancellation of the FPS Tiberium. Of course EA give a “diplomatic” excuse about the cancellation but was too obivious that game wont be accepted by the Command and Conquer fans and at the end will be a terrible waste of money for EA.
Thanks to Youtube a very few cinematic were leaked, guessing that were the only made before the project was shut down.
Tiberium FPS Cinematic
Thats why the videogame companies do serious research work before start such a radical project that its totally diffrent from their predecesors.
A bad game = heavy money loses and terrible publicity that can affect the company for years.
Thats why Microsoft-Bungie-343i doesnt want to this kinda of projects… TOO RISKY.

Wow, cancelled and released a worse game. And that Tiberium FPS game even looked good. But if not a straight up Halo Wars FPS, then why not something similar to Halo Wars in FPS? I still think that’d be really fun. Being able to fight as Marines, ODSTs, or Spartans as seen in Halo Wars as a FPS and using that classic Halo arsenal including the MA5B would be really cool IMO. I understand that the Halo Wars community is large and fond of the RTS, but who knows? They might like it. And it might bring more sales from the FPS community.

It’s a very interesting concept. I’d prefer an FPS over an RTS any day.

Turn a Halo Wars style game down the road into a FPS? Far too much action to handle at once, but segments of some of those missions would be arguably the best to complete and go through, so I’ll go ahead and say yes. But it has to be done right…

This is why I hate people who don’t like Halo Wars, but love Halo. Every single time I ask someone who has played Wars and said they didn’t like it, I repect their opinion and ask them ‘why’? It’s the same answer every time; “I don’t like RTSes”. Well, if you don’t like RTSes, then why the hell did you buy the game?!

It would be both Peaceful and Cool to be able to choose between RTS/or FPS (iStill prefer RTS) but FPS would make an interesting change.

I’m not sure what to think of this.

On the one hand, it’d be interesting to see Halo Wars molded into a shooter.

On the other, I think Halo Wars is unique in it’s own right and I can’t see its story told in any other way.

Like Delta said, Westwood tried this a long time ago with C&C, Renegade, I think the game was, and it didn’t turn out well. Granted, this could just be Westwood’s inability to produce anything of quality aside from an RTS (Specifically C&C), judging by their track record of games.

What I think a Halo Wars FPS would ultimately become would be a large scale warfare game, with giant battles taking place across fairly large maps, like BTB on crack, and everything in Reach that happened in either cut-scenes or in the distance with scripted Warthogs doing doughnuts all day. While it sounds interesting in theory, it wouldn’t be anything special.

Or possibly make it similar to what Dota was/is to Warcraft 3, where you’re a soldier of some rank, and command other forces, but I’m not sure how well that would work out.

Yeah, because everyone at 343 just has that much time to waste.

Why bother? I’d rather they develop a sequel. Halo Wars wasn’t my favorite, but it was awesome in it’s own little way.

Perhaps as a weird side-project once they finish the main trilogy?

Anything’s possible.

I didn’t say I didn’t like RTS’s. I actually like them a lot. They’re runner up in my list of favorite game types, under FPS’s. I really enjoy them, but to a certain extent. I just enjoy FPS’s a bit more, and I think this game or a similar game, like something based off of the battles of Harvest, in FPS would be very interesting. Plus, like I said, it could broaden the usage of the awesome looking cutscenes like in Halo Wars.

Simple question…
Why do another FPS when you have the whole Halo universe to make “spin off” or prequel of the original Halo trilogy?
Answer…
For prequels we have Halo Reach, that according to Halo time line… this happends before the events of Halo 3. Maybe 343i/Bungie will develop another prequel of intersting history moments of the Halo Universe like “Contact Harvest”, the battles on Onyx, etc.
Halo is a massive universe to exploit, but so a second FPS… isnt an option.

I think the action would be awesome. I never heard of Far to much action. You just need to be smarter then the game kinda like Ninja Gaiden on Mater Ninja xD or Devil may cry on Dante must die mode… Intense stuff

It’d definitely require some thinking. Of course, it would be equally awesome.

Oh, and another thing. All of you remember the MA5B from Halo: Combat Evolved, right? Well, the only other games that feature this specific assault rifle is Halo Wars and Halo: CEA (well, exactly same ase Halo: CE but with better graphics, but I thought I’d include it anyway) and it was mainly seen in good detail only in cutscenes. The sound in game was more distinctive, but the only distinctive feature in game in the RTS gameplay. I’d like to have another FPS, similar to Halo Wars, to feature the original MA5B assault rifle.

So…

Imagine if Halo Wars had an online feature where a second player could play as one of the units created by the first player.

That’s also kinda cool.
