an article I desire to share

why I now love halo

So while I may soon take a break from playing the campaign some 6 times in a row and loving each time like the first (sorry but Far Cry 3 really looks gorgeous) I wanted to leave this here…simply because it is worth reading especially for a certain crowd…

Bump for ftl forums

Wow…positivity has no appeal here uh?

> Wow…positivity has no appeal here uh?

Nobody reads it unless its someone complaining. Sad state of affairs I know.

Nice article though

It’s a gaming forum… nuff said

Wow just read that article and bookmarked it for my friends. It was great.

But yeah this is a gaming forum. 90% of people come here to whine about their gun being underpowered. The few positive threads are empty because they don’t stimulate discuss and nobody can make hate posts easily. The ones you should look for are constructive criticism. Those are generally good reads.

Sorry bro, you’ll have better luck on youtube.

…I honestly think this guy is talking out of his armoured butt-plate.
Halo 4s campaign wasn’t bad. I certainly preferred it to the scitzo multiplayer.

But what about Halo: CE? The feeling of being a super soldier fighting the Covenant and then the ‘OHGODNO!’ fear of the Flood. Seriously, neither 2 or 3 replicated the fear factor that Halo:CE Flood had. The sounds, the movements, the way they popped out of nowhere…
What about, um, pretty much every fight in any of the Halo games? How were they, tactically and ‘cinematically’, as he claims, any different? Heck, what about Reach, where AAs let you truly pick and mix your own style of fighting? Want to stay nice and safe while you pick off enemies? Take hologram or a shield and sit back with a DMR. Want to go close-quarter super-dude? Armour lock, Assault rifle and Shotgun. If anything, Halo 4 feels even LESS pick-and-choose than the others, especially once you get to those bloody Prometheans…

“In campaign, a run-in with overwhelming opposing forces isn’t intimidating or irritating. There’s no fear of the cheap bullet-hell onslaught and attritional grind that ‘certain games’ bring in such situations. There’s just opportunity and excitement.”

That is simply not true once you’re fighting Prometheans. It’s a case of “Oh, bloody watchers, kill them before they resurrect stuff, and now kill the bloody Battlewagons before they spam-spawn even more YOINKing watchers, now GET THESE BLOODY CRAWLERS OFF ME, oh look I one-shot died to a Battlewagon/Commander because I dared step out of cover. Again.”

Positivity means nothing when it’s based more on opinion than objective fact and analysis. Especially since his snippet on Multiplayer is total and utter Bull; The teams that win bum-rush everything with grenades and a BR, not caring if they die because they have insta-respawn. ‘Tactical’ never enters into it, even in supposed tactical modes like CTF. So either he’s not played enough, is way naive or he’s simply lying. Go figure.

I think you are missing the concept of what he meant about the campaign, wolf

I think he’s written an article that is pretty much subjective waffle, so I guess that makes two of us.

He’s basically saying that all the other FPS games on the market now feel crap, so Halo suddenly feels awesome. When, as most of us know, Halo hasn’t changed that much over the years. Barring graphical changes and weapons coming and going, point out to me what’s so much different between the Halo 4 Campaign and, say, Halo: CE? I can still pick my weapons, both of them have paths you have to follow one way or another with some choice in whether you go, say, left or right. Halo 4 has more button pushing… Have I missed anything?

I’m not saying he’s wrong, because an opinion can’t inherently be wrong. But it also doesn’t make it fact. So, y’know…shrug

No…what I mean is you are misreading or misinterpreting his statements. Yes it is an opinion and no he is not saying the other shooters suck. He is saying he has grown detached to shooters that do not have an angle. It is something I have been (meaning detached from angle-less shooters) all my life.

First, what do I mean by shooters that lack an angle? Basically hyper realistic shooters. COD MOH GS and the likes. Games in which your opponents are all identical and all require the same way of killing them (not arguing about the feel of it but the fact that because of the setting there is an insane difference between the way you ho about taking out a grunt or a jackal or an elite or a hunter as simple non situational game mechanics perspective). Games that are not so distant from what is possible. in which all weapons work more or less in the same way and so on and so forth.

Shooters that have that angle are games like Halo, GoW, Crysis hell even Far Cry 3 in certain respects.

That and the arena style gameplay. I am not gonna touch the MP bits as I do not play MP

My God, the gaming world is becoming a LOT like the film industry. D:

If it has a good story, everyone praises it.

If it doesn’t have a good story but it has some of the most intense action or some of the most underrated comedy moments or some of the heaviest overacting, everyone hates on it.

While I appreciate geniuses for coming up with a good plot, there can be an almost equal amount of dedication in the ones lacking a good story.

Halo 4 focused on the story and lacks gameplay, which Halo was known for. And that’s why it doesn’t appeal to me that much.

Only time I see people bother with the story again is when a new Halo game comes out. 99% of the time I see people replaying a mission, it’s for the challenges, achievements, glitches, easter eggs, gameplay, etc.

Gameplay should have more prioritization.

Good article. Much better than reading someone complain on every thread. Not pointing fingers here.

Good article. I have very similar feelings towards the halo franchise.
