An analysis of Game change's on various Community's.

I was thinking about this last night. And I don’t believe 343i has considered the impact some of these change’s are going to have on certain community’s. So I decided to put the change’s into perspective relative to the different community’s that makeup Halo.

Random Weapon Spawn’s and Press X to Instant Respawn.
Respawn timer’s have ranged from 1 second to 3 minute’s in Halo. So from my understanding you could be playing Team Slayer on Guardian. And you grab the Sniper. There is a possibility of the Sniper respawning on Grav Hammer less then a 30 second’s after it’s picked up? Bottom on Guardian is unaffected by top map control (generally). The team without map control is rewarded with Sniper?

Instant Respawn, pretty self explanatory. While some may argue it make’s the game pace quicken. This also mean’s the end of the Extermination medal, watching someone do lewd thing’s to your body, and the probability on small map’s of being hunted down before you can heal.

Who loses out:
Competitive Community: While they could just change any of this for the MLG gametype. The MLG community ultimately loses out because the deviation from main gameplay is too great, less skilled player’s will not want to part with their crutch’s and wont play MLG.
Everyone: The Extermination medal will no longer be possible due to super fast respawning, and no more teabagging sniffles. Not to mention the frustration caused by luck based map control.

Who gain’s?:
Nobody: Because good player’s/teams will be brought down to an even field with new player’s. And new player’s will not be able to get good because they will rely on crutch’s. Paradox!.

The removal of FireFight, and Elite’s from Matchmaking
Did anyone else think after ODST and Reach Firefight would be a staple in the Halo series? Well 343 tends to disagree. And our Sangheli Buddie’s? despite being with us since Halo 2, They have seemingly been relegated to a background foe in the campaign. I know Elite’s weren’t popular in competitive circle’s but so far 343 is not being very mindful of the competitive community’s opinion. So why remove Elite’s?

Who loses out:
Firefight Community:. despite taking some heat for being a boosting playlist in Reach, Firefight has quite a following that will now be disappointed their favorite game type is missing.

Elite Community: Pretty self explanatory. There are many die hard fan’s that play exclusively as Elite’s. And the longest running thread on these forum’s was started by this community. To say their taking it hard is an understatement.

**Machinima Community:**The removal of Elite’s will have some resonant connection’s here. Many Halo Machinima’s feature a lovely Dino or 2, and now they are gonna be slightly less flexible. Firefight also applies to a lesser extent.

**Invasion Community:**No Elite’s, No Invasion. Spartan’s are not going to invade themselves are they?

Who gain’s?:
Well no one community gain’s. But the removal of FireFight Free’s up disk-space for Spartan Op’s. Good or Bad, only time will tell.

Spartan Point’s, and Loadout’s
Basically just renamed Cr from Reach. Or is it? it was stated in the GameInformer article that Spartan Point’s could be used to purchase Armor Ability’s and Armor Modification’s for your Loadout These point’s can be used to get potentially game changing stuff to spawn with?

Who loses out:
Casual Community: In an odd break from there pattern, 343i decided it would be better to reward people playing longer with an advantage over new comer’s.
Competitive Community: In contrast spawning with uneven stat’s is threatening to game balance. However this is not a foregone conclusion since it’s a tad early to tell.
LAN Community: Unless you can unlock this stuff offline, seems like LAN wont get the full experience.

Who gain’s?:
Player’s who play longer, not necessarily the better player: If you can earn a hefty amount of Spartan Point’s “just for playing” like in Reach, were gonna see those Inheritor booster’s with gameplay advantage’s.

TL;DR: 343i decided to kick the following community’s in the nut’s.
Competitive Community (x3)
Firefight Community
Elite Community
Machinima Community(x2)
LAN Community
Invasion Community

In favor of the following community’s.
Casual Community

I know it is early to judge, and when more information comes to light I will update this post.

Well done on a well thought out post.

The competitive community has been getting kicked in the nuts for 5 years we are used to it. Just when we thought it couldnt get any worse from pre-patch Reach the developers manage to one up their previous mistakes into a disaster. 343 could of been gods to the core community and everyone could of came together as a one community if the game settings were balanced in the default, now it seems they want to divide the community further into sections and sub-communities of “Classic Halo” and “New Halo” crippling the already struggling MLG Halo scene, and piss all over the games balance and competitive game play saying “Customization will allow you to play how you want”. No, Customization gives you the crutch of making Halo into basically Call of Halo:Spartan Warfare 4 in the default and then shoving all the core fans into one or two playlists just like Reach making us create our own settings and maps again probably. Then you wonder why the population falls from 700k to under 100k a couple months after it releases and why Halos population has declined, you keep -Yoinking!- the core Halo gamer in the -Yoink- killing all previous loyalty fans had to the franchise.

I’m sorry to hear that, I cant say I personally belong to the Competitive community. infact I’m more the guy pissed about the Elite’s. However I don’t intend to see this games competitive value go to hell. because competition is damn fun to everyone and keeps people coming back. Easy games don’t.

While a lot of thought went into this post, you are at the mercy of your own ignorance until you play the game.

So, sorry to break it to you, but you haven’t been kicked in the nuts just quite yet.

Elites were always a side show for the devs, I suppose. Shame.

Oh well, I have other games to keep me company.

Five years? We have suffered from kicks in the groin for soon to be eight years. We have always been on the bottom of priority list even though we are most likely the largest sub-community of the Halo community. And I agree with you. In reality, the best approach would have been to design the game around competitive play. That way everyone would have won. But a matter of fact is that no matter who are the developers, they never understand the gameplay of Halo, they never understand how the game can be balanced and deep. They ignore any advice on development of the game over and over again.

Haha, I gave them Halo 2 because at least they made an EFFORT to accommodate all players. They fixed all the problems competitively with it in the patch, they gave us they gave us great 4v4 maps, they gave us competitive base player traits, they gave us clans and clan matches, they gave us our own section of ranked playlists which were optimized for balanced and competitive gameplay for the most part everyone was happy in the community and even the most disgruntled CE vets came to accept it and that community unity really showed in the online community which was awesome. The game was balanced in default(Post-Patch), and only a few Sandbox/map changes needed to be made from playlist to playlist.

When you said to friends “Hey lets play Halo” EVERYONE knew what that meant. It was not “You want to play Classic Halo, TU Halo, or Halo with loadouts and bloom?” Its just ridiculous in any game in my opinion to need a “classic mode”. If you need a “Classic” playlist in a game like Halo with a strong core following THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT. If you cant have Halo players enjoy a balanced and competitive Halo game in the default then what hope does the franchise have? The developers and publishers underestimate this community, we all love classic Halo the Halo trilogy was hugely successful with “Classic” Halo in the default only until Reach did the multiplayer population decline because it wasnt Halo. Chances are if 343 made it balanced and competitive in the default like HCE not only would the core Halo community be back in full force, but gamers who are tired of the same old military shooters with frustrating gimmicks/insta-kill times would back it as well and appreciate a well designed and balanced console FPS alot of console gamers are familiar with.
