The maps: I find none of them interesting or fun. Each Halo game before 4 has large maps that support vehicles. Halo 4 on the other hand has maps that barely support them and it doesn’t have any large maps for them.
Forge: The game really has no forge maps. The default 3 are too small to do anything large with and the other 2 have structures that can’t be deleted. Those structures take up a large portion of the area they are in. They did add Forge Island, but the problem is that those islands are small. The rest of the map is nothing but water. When people were asking for a flat areas. They probably want a map that’s like Forge World with sections that have large flat areas. I know Forge World wasn’t any better for flat areas, but at least you could do a lot with the other areas. Forge Island on the other hand has no other areas besides those islands and water.
All the removes they did: Each main Halo game in order is an improvement over the other. It might not be in gameplay, but for content wise it is. Halo 4 on the other hand just felt like one big downgrade because of all the things they removed.
Removes:
-Playable Elites.
-Campaign theater.
-Campaign scoring.
-Assault.
-Race.
-Invasion.
-Big Team Objective.
-Firefight.
-UNSC aerial vehicle for MP/custom games.
-The Infected being able to use other weapons besides the sword.
Those changes they did: The changes they did for the 2 gametypes ruins them. It takes the fun out of the Flood when they can’t use any other weapon besides the sword. It takes the enjoyment out of CTF when you have to avoid the flag at times. And you can’t drop the flag so you are screwed out some points. The changes to the races couldn’t have been slightly like Bungie. No, they had to do it in a way which makes them hardly look like what they are supposed to be.
Changes:
When you touch the objective you automatically pick it up. It wouldn’t be so bad if you can drop it, but you can’t. Good thing 343 gave us that pistol. Because we all know that rocket launcher I have would be useless against that group of enemies and warthog that is coming at me.
They removed the option for the infected to use other weapons besides swords. They couldn’t have simply just gave them a Flood skin. Because that wouldn’t be enough change. They had to do it in a way that would ruin the gametype.
The Grunts hardly look like Grunts. They are the same shape, but their head looks like a shark and they have skin. The Bungie Grunts look like they have some type of shell. Hell they don’t even wear the breathers anymore. They have some type of tube. That’s not going to do them any good. When they breath the gas they are going to be breathing in oxygen which is poisonous to them.
The Jackals don’t even look like Jackals. Instead of them looking like birds they look like a piranha dinosaur thing.

I agree wholeheartedly with everything you’ve said.
When I play Halo 4 it doesn’t feel like a true Halo game.
> Do you realize that the Jackals looked nothing like birds in Halo CE?
Oh really? You’re half right. That said, there were two kinds of jackals in CE. The one in the earlier picture, and this kind. You’ll notice that this version looks very similar to the Halo 2-3 version.
We can’t see the face due to the helmet, but we can see the bottom jaw which is almost identical to that of the later Jackals, so it’s safe to assume there’s more than one kind (hence reach’s skirmishers, there is more than one kind.)

I agree with your agreement. At least Reach didn’t drastically change anything other than Matchmaking and it was just a spin-off. Halo 4 was supposed to be the sequel to Halo 3, yet it felt like a regression.
While Halo 4 did remove a lot of things, who would seriously say that the reason it stinks is because we can’t play as Elites anymore, or that we can’t view a replay of a Campaign mission? Those were cool features, but nothing more.
You named pretty much all of the minor changes, neglecting the ones that majorly changed the gameplay: tactical/support upgrades, Armor Abilities, and personal ordinance.
I promise you that when you think about the “glory days” of Halo 3, you don’t think about how cool it was to be able to pick up and put down the flag with a button press.
I generally agree. Though analogy-wise, I find a comparison to the Star Wars films works better. A New Hope and CE set the stage and are fondly remembered as greats. Empire Strikes Back and Halo 2 are considered the best of the franchise. Return of the Jedi and Halo 3 are good, but not as good as the previous additions to their franchises. The Phantom Menace and Halo 4 are huge departures from the previous trilogy, tend to rely on special effects as selling points and aren’t remembered very fondly.
Here’s hoping Halo 5 isn’t an Attack of the Clones or it is going to take until Halo 6 to bring the franchise up again like Revenge of the Sith it.

I had to be more or less forced to watch revenge of the sith after seeing the phantom menace and attack of the clones. I didn’t think they could pull it back, but they finished pretty strong.
The analogy works pretty well but nobody was expected to pay £45/$60 to see star wars. I’m not convinced Halo can afford an attack of the clones.
I disagree. The analogy was pretty spot on but I still think it feels like Halo. Some things are missing and some things are changed but its easily rectifiable in the future. I’m not really concerned. I’ve had days worth of fun in campaign, spartan ops and multiplayer and it won’t stop anytime soon.
