The two polarizing positions of the core of halo 4 game play seem to be all the new stuff they added is garbage, the fundamentals (controlling map/weapons/power ups)are now gone OR all the new stuff they added was necessary to keep halo modern. while i don’t necessarily agree with the new changes, i know there is absolutely no way AA and ordnance are going to disappear from the game in a title update. i think there’s a solution though that can cater to both opinions and everyone in between and it’s pretty simple i think.
bring back static weapon drops that aren’t random, but only have the highest tier of weapons used for this along with overshield and double damage power-ups. basically all variants of the sniper (beam rifle binary rifle) and variants of the rocket launcher (incineration fuel rod) and the spartan laser. while i’m not exactly set on these being the only weapons for this, the idea with this change is to promote map control where these weapons/power-ups spawn and i don’t really see people going out of their way to defend a needler/shotgun ordnance location.
keep personal ordnance in the game but only use the mid tier weapons for this such as needler, shotgun, railgun. this makes personal ordnance still worth getting, but won’t create a situation where people don’t feel the need to move around the map, and won’t create the scenario where 5 out of the 6 players on a team all have rocket launchers /sniper rifles ( this, by the way, was 343’s reasoning on having fast despawn timers on ordnance weapons because too many would exist on the map… so presumably if that problem doesn’t exist then neither will the need for the fast timers). this would also help to keep personal ordnance less random as not as many weapons/power-ups would appear in them
as for armor abilities go, i think they need to stay implemented as they are ( i’ve heard suggestions of having them arrive via ordnance rather than players starting with them) but i think the ability to customize your character is to well established at this point, and it would seem like back-tracking to too many people if that was taken away. i think small balance adjustments need to be made as they are discovered
i dunno im kind of just brainstorming, what do you guys thinks? im pretty convinced there’s a way to please the majority of people in the community while still keeping all of the new things they have added to the game.
