How would you feel about ammo powerups? Scattered around the map similar to Halo 3’s equipment, you could pick up ammo types like:
Incendiary: lights enemy on fire for damage over time.
Fragmentation: bullet shatters and can hit nearby targets for minimal damage.
Concussion: Sort of a mini brute shot or concussion rifle powerup that can help flip vehicles and push enemies on foot around, but with less direct damage.
Armor-Piercing: Can make non-sniper weapons pierce through multiple enemies and cause extra damage to vehicle armor, at the cost of slight damage reduction to foot soldiers(since the bullets wouldn’t warp upon impact, thus leaving a less severe wound), as well as allowing them to ricochet off of surfaces like a sniper(so you could potentially kill someone from around a corner).
Covenant weapons would have their own versions of these powerups, and would behave similarly, albeit with plasma instead of solid rounds.
Each ammo powerup would only give one full magazine of enhanced ammo per use, for only one player. If the player dies or drops the weapon, if any enhanced ammo is left then the gun could be picked up and used by someone else until the enhanced ammo ran out. Each weapon would have different damage levels when given a certain powerup, and different weapons would benefit from different powerups accordingly.
