Can any company employee confirm whether or not this is legitimate?
I’m under the impression a date has not been finalized. Is this just the last day of the year so you can confirm it will be next year, and then you will change the delivery date if a different date is announced?

yeah, that would be nuts. At the very latest, I could see a year from today, so its ready for the holidays like the console is this year. That’s still a long way off. I’ll probably get a notice from Amazon of when the ship date is before we get em from 343.
Any game that has a TBD that is releasing in a given year always puts 12/31/20XX. Considering you can pre order now, I would not be surprised if this was a corporate accident and we will have a release date by December this year. My guess is March or April, that gives them an extra 7-8 months to finalize the game which is plenty of time

Obviously a placeholder.
But if I were a betting man (I am), I would say it’ll be out in Q4 2021.
I’ve been an employee of both GameStop and Best Buy and can confirm that Dec 31 of XXXX is the standard placeholder for TBD releases. They generally just put Dec 31 of whatever year looks the most likely for release and then adjust it later when there’s a real date. Sometimes that means it rolls over from Dec 31 of XXXX to Dec 31 of XXXY, but since all we know for sure about Infinite is that it isn’t coming this year, 12.31.21 would currently be the most accurate placeholder date.
It’s understandable to read into a date a retailer has assigned for a product release, but I implore you never to take a retailer’s (or multiple retailers’) info as gospel truth. Most of these sites and stores are just distributors and don’t have an inside line on what/when things are going down. If you saw a date on the Xbox Store that would be worth more consideration, but bottom line is until 343i makes a formal announcement we can’t take anything we see as fact regarding release date.
Dude, how long are you playing video games?
Not trying to be rude, but how often did a game release on the 31st of december EVER?
I’m seriously sometimes puzzled about what puzzles some people, lol.
