That the mods tied to specializations aren’t even worth earning. Now, I will probably level up and earn them just like the next guy, but most likely won’t use it in any loadout. They would be good, but just look at the mods already revealed. I mean, would I rather move faster with turrets, or have my shields recharge quicker? If you just look at the mods revealed (I am looking at the Unbiased Facts thread if you want to look) most of them are a lot more appealing than the specializations. I would be the person getting mad that people at higher ranks will have access to better stuff, but they won’t! Usually, unbalanced unlocks like these make me mad, the fact that if you play more you get stuff that will help you win, but I can’t help to think that specialization mods aren’t even worth the unlock. Anyone else? (Once again, don’t get me wrong, I hate that mods can be unlocked if you reach a higher rank)
Now I also had another observation. Does anyone else think it would be better if 343 just had all loadout items unlocked at the start? Leveling, in my opinion, should let you earn more aesthetic choices instead of ones that unbalance gameplay. I believe it would be much better if I could make my dream loadout at the start, and not worry about having worse loadouts than someone who went to the midnight release. Do you think that would be a good idea?
(I know those two observations have little to do with eachother, but I thought I would compile it into 1 thread rather than 2!)
> Isn’t moving faster with turrets one of the mods unlocked through specializations?
Ya, I was doing a comparison between one of the specialization mods and one of the normal mods. Shield recharge is a normal, and the turret speed is a specialization mod. I was using it to show that the normal ones are better.

maybe i’m Uber naive, but
can you equip two mods?
one Tactical, and one support,
or can you only equip one at any given time?

Don’t worry about it. Yes, the build shown at RTX and E3 showed you can have 1 tactical and 1 support mod simultaneously active in any given loadout.
This may change, but I doubt it.

What? They have said that when you reach max rank you enlist in a specialization that allows you to go up 10 more levels. At the end of that 10 levels you get the mod. How is that not progression based?
Yes, i’m actually glad to say that the mods of the specializations aren’t the most important part of them. I’m also glad to say that while those mods are unique, they aren’t the ones most will go for. In fact I see most people using either resupply, firepower, or shielding above all others, and these will, for the most part, still not effect the game at all for most. If the specializations were the end-all content to get, then I can see the game being terrible after a few months.
In fact, It seems I’m going to be choosing my specialization on either armor or weapon skins. The mods are cool, but I doubt I would use more than 1 of them ever once I get them. The 10th level of any specialization for me will only be to finish it out, rather than to get the mod.

Did they mention which system it was based on? No

Read more guy, two ranking systems have been confirmed, visible progression and hidden skill. After all the drama around here due to that discovery I assumed everyone knew about this.

The skill rating is simply there to show you where you skill stands, nothing more. Armor, mods, etc, are unlocked through Spartans Points that are gain from experience. This has been made very clear.
Specializations are strictly progression based. You progress through 10 levels, unlocking armor, skins, and finally a mod.

You mind providing a link with HARD confirmation of your opinion

Thank you for being the only person who gave me their thoughts on the matter and actually provided your reasoning. I thought that the first time I saw the specialization article. I was looking at the armors to decide, I didn’t even read the descriptions underneath until I scanned through it a few times.

The part about the Spartan Points is from the GI article.
The part about the Specializations is from the recent IGN article.

yes, this is how it is. however, they seem to be balanced between the 2 pretty good.
Tactical packages are a bit more obvious in gameplay. things like faster shield recharge, 2 primary weapons, the ability to pick grenades off of dead bodies, etc. They are small, but can be noticed by others.
The support upgrades are more subtle, and are only really apparent to whoever uses the. This would be a higher sensitivity radar, radar while zoomed in, faster AA recharge etc. These make almost no real effect on gameplay, and are more personal preference.
Its not like you can have both 2 primaries at spawn, and faster shield recharge. They all seem to balance between the 2 categories pretty well, so you pick one effective ability and one subtle ability, neither of which seems to do much to change gameplay at this time.

HOw in the world could you use a ranking system to give out items like that, and still keep the gameplay fair? Do you know how many people will never reach a level 50 rank? at least a good 40%-50% of the population. This would mean that at least half of the population would never get to use a specialization, and whether you like it or not they are now a big part of the multiplayer experience. Plus, that would mean that those who DO reach level 50 will have extra content others don’t, giving them an edge in multiplayer above those who don’t have them. This would only lead to a terrible experience for most.
The only viable way to unlock specializations is through progression ranks.
Yeah does seem like a waste. But maybe it will give people something to play for. I’m sure lots of people will try to unlock everything, so this should give them more to do.
