lately, i’ve been hearing about how bad the regicide gametype and i dont understand why people are against it so much. it was fun and whenever im the king the game gets a lot more interesting than a simple slayer game. so why does everyone hate the gametype as no one is going into details for me
edit-on a side note, anyone know what happenned to FFA throwback? went to play it earlier today and its gone?
Campers can’t stand Regicide. Also those players who use k/d to measure their -Yoink- size on this game. Regicide is fun and it’s even better when you get everyone together fighting it out. This particular game type forces people to get out of their corner and actually play. Hit me up on XBL and I’ll gladly play with you!
I don’t like it because it’s not competitive. It essentially discourages you from playing your best. I think a gametype is stupid if it inherently encourages you to sandbag the entire game in second place until last second to score a big bounty and take the lead. As something to just play with friends, ect. I think it’s kind of fund. I think everyone’s issues is that they are being forced to play it if they want to fulfill the daily challenges. It simply is nota gametype where being the best player is rewarding.
I neither hate nor love Regicide. Its different. Annoying at times, but different. Its like Juggernaut, only the King isn’t stuck with non-regenerating shields.

really? huh, i never saw it like that, i always found it more competitive as people are out to get you and a strong lead is great

I agree. My bro (who won’t admit it but it’s true) is crazy about his k/d. He is obsessed with having above 2 as an absolute minimum, and he will quit games because his team is losing. He also, coincidentally, hated multiteam in Halo 3 and Reach, hates regicide in Halo 4, and overall won’t play many objective gametypes unless they allow a lot of kills. I see the exact same link.
I enjoy regicide (and multiteam is my favourite, wish they would add it into Halo 4) and I think it is a great way to force people to move around and play. I would still like Lone Wolves or another FFA Slayer playlist, but Regicide isn’t too bad.
At first I was a little wary but after a few games I’ve taken to liking it a lot.
I think one of the reasons it’s unpopular is that some of the traditional tactics (eg sniping, camping, choke points) just don’t work when you’re the king because everyone and their crawler know where you are and will be coming from all directions.
So yeah, lots of running around and frantic firefights! Can only be a good thing!
I dont think parties should be included in free for all games. I mean, they should be included in team playlists, but for individual games there should be no parties at all

The problem with that is there is no reward for being the king. If you’re dominating you have a big arrow over your head saying kill me, and anyone who does gets a bonus and as much as 35 points. Meanwhile you can continue to do well, and only get regular points. It makes being in first a huge disadvantage. Like I said, I don’t hate the gametype. I think it’s fun.
The problem is that to play it competitively you’re best off staying just behind the king all game, and overtaking the lead last second. It’s just a flawed game mechanic as far as competitive play is concerned. The real problem though is 343 attempting to shove it down our throats with the constant challenges. If they didn’t do this, it would simply be people who enjoy the gametype playing it, and those who enjoy it wouldn’t have to hear the complaints. Personally, I just don’t even bother with the regicide challenges.
I wouldn’t say there is no reward. That overshield has costs me killing the King on several occasions. But if the King got a bonus right off the bat then the game would be over too quickly. Maybe he could get a bonus after killing 3,5,10 in a row as the King. But if that were the case, 300 would be too easy to achieve. It is not without it’s flaws but I love how you are not really going to have a chance to win unless you get out of your hiding spot and fight.

I understand what you’re saying, however I don’t see it as discouraging to play good. I’m usually king for most of the whole match almost every time I play, and every single time I get that arrow over my head, I say “Come at me!” and fill them full of promethian lead with my suppressor. I occasionally get 2, sometimes 3 kills in a row without stopping, I’ve even gotten a killtacular, all with just the suppressor. Normally, I really don’t care about k/d, but almost every time I play, since I’m usually king and get less points then everyone else, (and usually win too!) I can get A LOT more kills then everyone else before the match ends. For all of the matches I play, on average, everyone gets from 10-20 kills except for the guy who was right up there with me, and we get from 20-30 kills. On the contrary, I find regicide to be very competitive. Again, I can see this from your point of view, this is just how I see regicide.
