Am I the only one who is bothered by this?

So apparently I am the only one who is bothered by this… but the game ships with a bunch of maps… and yes most of them arent anything special I know… BUT WHY DID IT SHIP WITH TWO OF THE SAME EXACT MAP? I mean really… Truth and Regret? AKA Midship.

You can argue that one is destroyed and one isnt… but they are the same map… let alone a remake of Midship… like they couldn’t come up with enough new maps. I’m glad they are trying to listen to people who wanted it… but for me I’m tired of remakes. I mean the way I see it… make me a new map that I can love to death instead of playing one that has already been made.

Maps used to be related to the campaign…

Which i enjoyed but really didn’t enjoy and could go on for days about the lack of story (and things like how we tried to kill Halsey in Halo 4 Spartan Ops for becoming and actual traitor… and then in Halo 5 it’s like we are buddy buddy who don’t care about how the Librarian gave her everything on the Forerunners and how we didnt really hunt Chief down but really just caught up to him and then were best friends who wanted to help him) and my own ideas about where it might be going… I have this idea that Cortona is actually the Didect manipulating Master Chief… aka his only threat… while also taking away our biggest assets… all AI but Roland for some reason…

But instead of maps related to the campaign we got a lot of maps that look cheap like they were all made in forge (all arena games) and have no relation to campaign. A map based around the firefights on Senghilios, or inside the Kraken, or right before the elevator fight on Meridian?.. there are tons of new locations but none of them are hinted at in multiplayer for the exception of Colosseum. At the end of the level Blue Team… you fly around in huge area where you can also run around on the ground… why was that not utilized?

As far as Warzone… 3 maps got boring real fast. Almost as fast as getting reqs points to buy a pack to get a sniper rifle to finally spawn with it 3/4 the way through a match… to die with in 5 seconds of spawning (or running across the entire map) to die without ever firing a shot to have to repeat the entire process again. Warzone Assualt… like when you play on ARC and have to run up a hill with no cover to be shot at by people above you who can see you can you cant see them. I think I’ve used the DMR like 10 times in either Warzone game because it comes in the last 2 minutes of the game for me (if at all).

I mean is it just me who plays one or two games online and then changes games because its either 1)not interesting, 2)frustrating, or 3)takes forever to get enough points to get a gold pack (and lets be honest… when silver only gets you “uncommon to rare” items… what’s the point or getting a silver pack… granted in gold packs i get mostly uncommon and rare items… but still)?

What happened to casual, just for fun, multiplayer? Why is there only major competition gaming? I’m not claiming to be the best player ever… I’m definitely not… but multiplayer revolves around the Halo Championship and no longer includes the players who don’t care (or aren’t interested in) Major League Gaming.

Eh, nothing to get riled up over.

why pay money to get the same map twice though?

Truth and Regret are similar, but they do have some pretty key differences. The location for the main power weapons are different, Regret’s bottom middle is a significant point for the map, and Truth’s top mid is just a light bridge. Same then with Eden and Empire - both maps are very similar but have some noteworthy differences.

I’m okay with Truth and Regret. They have very distinct feels to them. I know it’s basically the same map layout, but at least it’s a good one.

My problem is with Eden and Empire. Half the time I don’t even know which one of them I’m playing on, and it screws me over because I think that I can go a certain way and I can’t, and end up getting killed.

I think I’m going to disagree with you on this. They definitely share a few design cues and that’s intentional but they definitely play differently. The power positions are not the same, sight lines are different, and flow of combat shifts differently as well. I wish they still had heat maps for comparison though.

I think empire and the other crap map play more similar to each other than that.

True… Eden and Empire are similar maps, but are two totally different maps. They aren’t the same map with a different skins with different weapon placements. The only physical difference between those two maps is that on Truth the light bridge is up and makes a hole in the ground… Regret does not. One is darker and one is bright. its the same map with aesthetic changes.

By that logic the game could have shipped with 2 versions of every map and just change where weapons spawn… which can all be done in forge (when it eventually makes its way to Halo 5)

they said they were re-mixing the rig too :stuck_out_tongue:

Mrhappysadass, Dont forget when you spawn in a corner looking at a crate or wall… or in the same 2 spots repeatedly… I had that problem with rocket rumble all weekend. Or my personal favorite in Warzone Assault when you are fighting at a core and then spawn back across the map (like spawning at the spire on Arc when in the final stage of destroying the core [again in Warzone Assault]).

Yeah. They’re pretty much 90% the same map. Has the same exact flow. But I wouldn’t worry about money being wasted because they have the same map twice.

Hey china called… They want their wall back.

Anyway, every map is going to have the original and a remix. Nothing to get upset over.

I guess the question I have in response to everyones responses… If there was only Truth or Regret (pick one, not both) would you have been okay with Halo 5 shipping with Empire and a map identical to Empire (I’ll call it Dynasty) but instead of being day, its night, and the weapons are somewhere else on the map? Empire is a map a lot of people don’t like… would you have been okay with that instead?

I guess it is just me who is upset with have two of the same map. I’m not saying I dont like Truth or Regret… I loved Midship. I’m just wondering if its the fact that people like the original map (Midship) so much that that’s why nobody seems to care that its on the disk twice. Where if it was a level people didn’t like (not that 343 would know that with a new map when the game was launched) would you have the same reaction of being okay with it?

I love to see maps inspired by areas in the campaign. So Forge Guys hint hint. Play some Halo 5 campaign. Ideas are within

The maps are mediocre just like Halo 4

Yeah, that’s been my problem as well. I get confused on the locations of the weapons nearly every time.

I just find the lack of creativity by 343 enormous. They just keep re-making the same maps over and over, I paid money for a new game, I want to see new maps. Ofcourse I enjoy old maps, but I don’t want to play the same maps for 14 years in a row you know…

I noticed that they are pretty much the same map, but they are two of my favorite maps so it’s a win for me. But I understand your frustration. It would be nice to have more maps.

h4 maps are actually top notch IMO
As far as I know truth is regret but upside down.

The lack of variety got old really quick, and without splitscreen I really don’t have a reason to replay the campaign. No social playlists means, like you said, that casual games don’t exist. It gets exhausting after a very short while. The good news is there have been a lot of great game releases lately so I can keep myself busy with other games until they add the stuff everyone wants (the stuff that should have been there on release imo)

I usually play the campaign for Halo at least twice. Once solo and once coop. Over the years, I’ll play it a few times. Like Gears Of War 1 - 3. But this game, removing split screen has eliminated that play through. And no match making for online coop has eliminated that play through as most of my friends online have either moved on to other games or moved on to PS4, so we play games over there.

I’m more disappointed with the reason Frank O’Conner gave for why they didn’t add match making for campaign.
