When I saw the bulletin? So I was expecting some answers from the questions asked, needless to say I was very disappointed. They might aswell have just said “Dunno lol guess” for all of them. All the questions I was interested in reading they basically said “We’ll release info later”, what was even the point in answering those questions then? You may aswell answered some questions that you can answer, not ones you can’t. I don’t get why it’s so hard for you to tell us if there will be a ranking system, it’s not game breaking, it just makes everyone more frustrated.
No you weren’t the only one.
I wanted to crawl in a hole…
For about half the questions, yes. But then again, they cleared some things up and implied others.
Such as the Cyclops II not being playable, but that there is a much larger vehicle that is player-controllable.
They picked the most asked questions and told us that they would reply to them at a later that. That way, people would stop coming here on the forums and asking those questions over and over again.
i think i did smash my head against the wall…i just dont remember…
they answered 80% of their questions with : we will answer that at a later time, but it will be cool.
I hate waiting -Yoink!-!
All that mattered to me was “The BR will be hitscan”, “perks aren’t going to be as bad as you guys think”, and “the classic Halo experience will still be easily available to anyone who wants to play it”.
They can derpify the game all they want as long as a few playlists actually play like a Halo game (Non-MLG or non-CEA Reach not being considered Halo).

We need more than a few, everyone who wants a classic experience shouldn’t get sidelined by lame casual playlists. Casuals would still play if there isn’t perks and jetpacks but a lot of long time fans won’t play if there is.
I was surprised they shared as much information as they did…

You said it.
Obviously, nobody asked the right questions.
Duh.
They’re not going to release that much useful information until E3. I’m surprised people expected anything but the trailer for a while.
You weren’t the only one. I am excited, and a little concerned, with the big reveal so far.
However, you can’t blame him for keeping it a secret. If anything, he’s just doing what he needs to do to keep his job, while answering the best he can do.
If they’ll let him spill the beans, he’ll spill them. He seems as excited as we are about what’s next for Halo.

By “a few” I meant 5-10 (when assuming there will be about 20 playlists). If it was set up the same way as H3 I would be ecstatic, but after Reach, if there are even 5 really good playlists* (like on par with Reach MLG v7), I will be very content.
And you need to remember that players like you or I are <1% of the population and that H4 has a LOT of “casualized” competition, where you can be an effective player without being very good, to contend with. We no longer live in an age where the majority of players wish to challenge themselves or acquire skill, they just want it handed to them, and games like CoD offer that. If Halo is to survive it needs to have an intricate and precise connection from casual to competitive along with a smooth transition between the two. H4 needs to be appealing to casuals, but offer a smooth transition into competitive settings for those who wish to try them out. It needs to do the exact opposite of what Reach did; Reach made it impossible to have a smooth transition from casual to competitive because the basis of Reach was based around casual mechanics (AA’s, Bloom, slow players, etc). Take a look at what MLG had to do to make Reach into an even remotely competitive title: Remove all AA’s, remove radar, Drastically increase movement settings, remove bloom, remove half the sandbox, make ALL new maps, implement power ups, add bleed through, etc etc. That is in no way a smooth transition AND there is only 1 competitive playlist which has no ranking system and has a huge stigma for being TOO competitive and having very unwelcoming community members. There is no transition, you just have competitive or casual, there needs to be a spectrum, a very simple spectrum with minimal changes.
For H4 to be the best it can be I needs to have casual and fun settings that can be made into hyper competitive settings with just a few custom game changes and slight modifications to already existent maps ( ie upping movement speed a little, changing weapon spawns around a little bit, have BR starts, and removing some redundant or unskilled weapons). That’s it. Much more than that, and the transition will be too drastic for casual players to even consider trying out competitive settings, and it will be very difficult for skilled or competitive players to be able to transition back into the casual settings when they don’t feel like trying as hard. This will once again alienate the two player bases from 1 another, the same way Reach did, while also turning away any “in between” players. Not to mention drastic changes that don’t feel like Halo are going to turn away the hundreds of thousands of people who are fond of Halo but don’t care enough to put up with it or complain about it on the forums; I can’t tell you how many of my H3 and H2 friends who just laugh when I talk about Reach. And wen your competitive friends would rather play CoD than Reach, you know there is a problem.
It can be done, and it can save Halo, but 343 can’t make the same mistakes Bungie did.
Also a huge reason Reach failed was because of the lack of ranked and social playlists and un-motivating ranking system. CoD is so addictive because of it’s ranking system, not it’s gameplay (at least for a lot of people). When you can prestige literally 50 times in the time it takes to reach Inheritor, you’re going to get bored. Not to mention, CoD drops an unlock after every level (4000 levels in 50 prestiges) if not every other game, Reach takes days to months to level up, with only 50 ranks, and you only get an unlock for the first 1-5% of the time it will take you to reach Inheritor.
No one wants the highest rank to be unattainable, it’s just a turn off and leads to boosting and cheating. You’d think they’d have learned with H2’s system; a 50 was supposed to be unattainable, yet it was so desired that any games about 40 you had to bridge host just to not get cheated. H3 did it better, and made it so as long as you’re decent you can get a 50. IMO the best thing would be an Arena + 1/50 mix. You have your Rank, just like halo 3, and then you have your % within that rank. So pretty much a 50 is like onyx, and then there’s the % within Onyx for the hyper competitive players. Most will be content with just achieving the 50, but many will strive for that 1% of 50’s. I am actually going to make a thread on this, as it sounds awesome. lol.

They revealed that the covenant will be in the campaign or perhaps that’s just new news to me. They also talked about a new vehicle which would dwarf a cyclops (that opens up many possibilities), their will be AA’s but they will be kinda altered, but AA’s nonetheless. The “perks” will not give any players a large advantage (aka- armor lock, jetpacks). There is lots of information, you just have to search for it and piece it together.
