Am I the only one who feels like this is the end times for Halo?

Yeah, for the 28 people still playing after that first year

I think the biggest problem was making this game for the old Xbox consoles also, it should have been a pure next gen title. It really feels likes its a mix of old and new generation. I think thats why the game has so bad lag spikes also, the old consoles cant keep up resulting in a bad experience for everyone.

They cant even get that coop mode working and they have to make it working between systems, good luck I say.

Sounds like a great goal i’ll give you a like with how detailed the plan is but i doubt it will work out unfortunately i would love to be proven wrong tho

I don’t know why I keep coming to these forums, but I do agree.

Infinite was supposed to be 343’s big comeback (or rather, they’re eureka moment) after h4 and h5 weren’t up to snuff. MCC, once they finally put work into it, seemed to be going in a good direction.

But infinite has so many mistakes, many of which should have easily been avoided, even looking back at 343’s own games, that no. There is no come back for halo while 343 is in charge.

Heck we had the show, which could have been a celebration of halo’s lore, especially the original halo lore, and instead its an absolute travisty. UNSC and Halsey villified, Chief turned into an emotional teenager. Random unneeded new characters.

Reach was a perfectly fine capstone on the series. It may have made a few unwelcome design decisions, but it was the last halo game that purely built on what came before. As opposed to 343 constantly sacrificing features just to chase trends.

I actually didn’t mind halo 4 from a story standpoint. It had its flaws, and the actual campaign gameplay was terrible. But I loved Cortana’s send off, and the possibility of the new villain in the form of the didact. But 343 can never commit itself to a vision, and every game ha sweeped the previous game’s setup under the rug. So why care about the story anymore?

Well I kinda think that 343i is going in the wrong direction regarding Halo. Example:
Since the update of Halo MCC I have not been able to play because of the EAC progie. I even did a clean install of Win 11 Pro just for fun and it still did not work, 343i tek told me if I have issues with the EAC progie I was instructed to contact EAC if you have issues. That gave the impresseion that 343i does not give a damn if you have issues with the EAC progie.

Peace! :fist_right: :fist_left:

No one cares about the lighting engine.

Oh boy, the daily “this game is dead” post followed by a dramatic tantrum about how life is ruined because of a video game…. can we do something new now?

Nope, I too feel as though this is Halo’s last instalment. I wouldn’t be surprised if after 5 years Halo Infinite gets put on life support and in about 10 years I can see 343 no longer existing. If the Activision Blizzard deal goes through and everything gets confirmed, Call of Duty is Microsofts new cash cow. Halo will get put out to rest.

Halo Infinite is never going to recover from this terrible launch. Even MCC which in theory has everything people could ever want never recovered fully from it’s terrible launch. Yes, a lot of people play MCC but no where near the numbers it could have had if it launched properly.

Halo Infinite is dead in the water as far as longevity is concerned. It can’t come back from how bad 343 have treated it up until now.

Oh boy, a comment that adds nothing to the conversation. Dude nobody said “it’s ruining my life!”, if you sincerely think you can get into a fictional property- ESPECIALLY sci-fi- and expect the fandom to not complain when something goes wrong, then you’ve got another think coming cuz that’s not a trend that will change any time soon.

And things have gone very wrong, of course we’re complaining about it.
Desync is still a problem and confirmed to not have a solution in the near future.
Customization is paywalled to hell and back.
Most of the content is on delay, possibly for a whole year or two.
343 is losing people near regularly.

We can do something different when there’s no reason to do this anymore.
And even then, we still be sci-fi nerds so we’ll find something else, but at least it’ll be smaller stuff like “Man I really miss the Halo 3 Security Helmet, the bubble visor thing was really unique” instead of “Man, I really wish the game got new content every update as frequently as it gets new bugs.”

As an addendum to my previous post, I also feel like mods can enhance our experience with the Halo games in ways that 343 can’t even imagine.

I’d like to use Halo 4 as an example. I’m sure that out of all the games in MCC that this one gets the least amount of love, even without the Bungie nostalgia. Anyways, I’d like to highlight a few of the mods that I found helped enhance my enjoyment of the game.

Halo 4 Rescored: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPKtkj5pBwI&ab_channel=GruntyGunner
Halo 3 Classic Weapons for Halo 4, created by Ctrl-Alt-Destroy!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R33WwsXN5N4&ab_channel=xXBarthXx
Halo 4 Reflow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dKIlu-2olA&ab_channel=d3adconnection

Now, I’m not saying these mods are perfect. Indeed without the official mod tools for Halo 4, there’s only so much modders can do to improve the experience that players have with Halo 4.

However, when you combine mods like these (especially the first two mods, which restore a lot of the classic visual/audio art style of the classic games), it can make Halo titles like Halo 4 feel more like home for fans that prefer the bungie games, if that makes sense.

One more thing I feel like would help greatly is if 343 where to think of a creative way to allow certain mods to be used with Easy Anti Cheat enabled, maybe like a marker or something. Mods like Halo 4 rescored only affect the audio that comes from guns, so mods like it would not provide a substantive gameplay advantage. The same applies for the graphics only version of the Halo 4 reflow mod by d3adconnection.

These are just some of the things that 343 will have to think extremely carefully on, because mods are going what the playerbase looks to when 343 is unable to come out with a COMPLETE. competent, package. You know, one that comes with game modes like Forge, Customs Games Browser and Firefight, at the outset of the release of a Halo game.

The people who played Halo 4 and Halo 5 did.

When in the Beta of Halo 5 the lighting was realistic when it interacted with your character model and then you finally played Halo 5 Gorbians, you find that even when wearing darker colors; you still have this “glow” effect when in the shadows of the envirionment.

How the heck did they make the color of “Black as Pepper” still be a neon color?

Nah. Microsoft and 343 are going to “Weekend at Bernie’s” Halo for at least another decade, worst case scenario.

I’m actually optimistic that Infinite can become something truly special, with a lot of TLC and additions over time.

This series will never regain its place as a top tier force in the games industry IMO, but it’ll stay somewhat relevant for a long time to come. 343 does seem woefully understaffed at the moment given how much work really needs to occur to turn Intinite into the game it should’ve been from day one, but they’ll get it there. Might take them 5+ years like it did with MCC, granted.

If nothing else, using “Weekend at Bernie’s” as a term like this amuses me deeply.

But yeah, they did turn things around for the MCC. It’s just a bitter shame that we need to wait THAT LONG for stuff to work out.

My philosophy when it comes to 343i is to expect that their products will launch in unfinished and deeply flawed condition, and that they’ll spend literally years trying to “make it right” after the fact…

I think that’s why I don’t feel nearly as pessimistic about the state of Infinite as many others… I honestly sort of expected this to be how things would play out :joy:

Fair point. Kinda like how nowadays I know better than to get too excited about anything with Sonic Team’s label on it and just wait to see how things play out.

I guess since I jumped on MCC when they were starting to fix it, it’s easy for me to overlook.

But just as every Sonic fan has, I must now endure the obligatory “getting used to being disappointed in the devs” stage of becoming a fan.

Heck it kinda ruined the atmosphere of some maps where it has amazing atmosphere but Spartans just stick put like a sore thumb looking at you crypt

“End times” or “Halo is dead”, is just a common exaggerated expression that society has gotten way too familiar with in the last decade or two. “Best Movie of all summers combined!” “The greatest product in the universe!” “you will never eat a hot dog like this EVER IN YOUR LIFE!” “I’m DEAD az serious” so on and so forth…

It’s all driven by emotion. Passionate people who have passionate responses (or they just have something to sell you). The truth is, Halo “died” very slowly after Halo 4 came out. Then Halo 5 was the “funeral”… now Halo Infinite is the year after the burial, where you come to mourn the fallen with some lovely flowers.

Halo isn’t “dead” and it isn’t going away but Halo will never be what it once was with 343 in charge. The game peaked a long time ago and it has been in a steady decline ever since. After watching this strange carnival go on for over ten years, I am certain that the biggest issue with Halo is whoever is in charge of 343, the person who is making all the big decisions is running the Halo franchise into the ground all so they can rebuild it as a Free to Play market scheme aimed at teenagers and compulsive consumers.

Funny thing about that comparison you could say fans are the reason why mcc started to get better paired with it getting a pc port as it was basically fixed due to the whole el dewito fiasco and them being forced to piss off a lot of people lol

Ahhh, El Dewrito. Such memories. I legit tried to get on that before the MCC launched on PC but couldn’t get it to work for some reason. Still, it was a neat idea.

Random thing, the MCC being released on PC legit stopped me from getting an Xbox One S on the cheap since I had binged RvB and wanted to try the old games before Infinite launched. Considering I wasn’t really planning on getting any other games besides that, I’m kinda glad the PC launch worked out so well.

From the little i played i was in love with how the forge kept it’s halo 3-4 simplicity while also giving us abilities to change the atmosphere of a map heck i kinda wish that when they said they would work with modders for official mod support we would see that type of forge be brought into halo 3 especially when they started to expand the forge in mcc but alas they didn’t
