I understand that we really have seen very little of the campaign (hopefully they’ve got many more biomes and tricks up their sleeves,) but am I the only one finding some of it a tad dull? The interior locations look beautiful but they are lacking in the contrast that existed in earlier games. There use to be such a strong distinction between human locations, interiors etc, forerunner locations, and covenant locations. They all had such different scales and geometry. In most of the campaign stuff I’ve seen, I often have a hard time distinguishing whether we’re inside a human ship, forerunner facility, or banished base. I think in general I’m finding that the UNSC aesthetic is a bit too clean and is missing that industrial gritty vibe it use to have, the banished stuff looks very similar to the UNSC (I’m missing those curvy purple covie vibes,) and the forerunner stuff looks pretty similar to human or banished stuff.
Dialogue has also been awfully cheesy so far. At its worst, Halo has had some pretty cringe-worthy moments (Like Keyes’ ‘To War’ Line in Halo 3.) At times Halo has had fun/funny moments, but I found that I really preferred the tone of Halo Reach, which dropped a lot of the goofier bits from previous games. Now it seems like they are really jumping full on into the Star Wars Sequels style one-liners. The weapon seems to be most guilty of this, with lines from “maybe he’s friendly,” to “is everyone trying to kill you?” “It kinda seems like it.” In the recent IGN reveal there was more of this “remember when you said new and dangerous?” “uh-huh.” Or “well, I was also considering flying octopus monkeys”
I’m curious if y’all feel similarly about these two things. Maybe this is what the community wants? If so, I hope that under the purview of infinite 343 has the ability to release some campaigns that are closer to the serious military science fiction vibes of reach.
