Been a few years since I played Chief and I’m giving all games a run through before Infinite. But I can’t find the campaign matchmaking search to do, you know, online coop. What am I missing? Is this really still not in the game at this point, and if not, um… it’s 2021… why not?
My apologies if I’m not seeing it. But if it’s not I’m just… astounded. How silly. Even Reach had it at launch a decade ago. Pve matchmaking is par for the course these days. Don’t tell me they’ve taken a step backwards?
No, there is no campaign matchmaking in MCC. Reach was the only to have it, but from my experience it was frequently low-population and the peer-to-peer connections can more often than not be a slog. Still, it was nice for those who made use of it.
“It’s x year” is not an argument, and they can’t really take a step back when that step wasn’t really taken in the first place. Many games don’t have matchmaking for these modes even to this day, so it’s not even unique to Halo.

Many games have coop matchmaking for all kinds of PvE activities and campaign missions. You are right it was p2p and it did suffer at the time, but again, ten years is a long time to not work out network kinks. For a game that is really billed as a complete package, which has many challenges hinging on coop, I guess I’m just surprised. Perhaps it’s to keep the population higher in pvp I have no idea. But technological constraints aren’t really an excuse. I also think if it was there people would use it.
For example, the campaign Playlists. There could easily be an option like three other games I’m thinking of, that searches for other coop players at the same mission as you in the playlist.
Anyway thanks for the info. I have no problem running on my own I’m doing a solo legendary Reach through 5 run, but it’d be nice to grab some challenges and achievements for coop along the way, especially since some are only able to be obtained through coop. A lot of my old Halo friends have moved on.
For coop campaign, gather your friends in the lobby and start the campaign. Matchmaking for campaign was only featured in legacy reach and is currently not in MCC, yet i hope they’re gonna add it further down the road
You can join discord servers such as the Halo Completionist and find people to play co-op with, just don’t have a sense of humor or you might get banned.

That kind of hinges on having friends who play Halo in the first place.
I do have friends who are Halo fans but none of them will ever play MCC again lol
I recall, I can’t remember where of when, but 343 said they haven’t done campaign match making because it got a lot of bad feedback when Reach had it. Way to many players trolling each other or something like that.

I think if 343 were to upgrade the network models on dedicated servers, I think Campaign Matchmaking might become more popular than it was back in Reach on the 360. Back then it was on Peer to Peer Network, which is not great for todays networking in these games, too laggy and disconnects are much higher.

Agreed. My short time playing OG Reach’s Co-Op Machmaking was split between sitting in the Lobby wating for others, the host having a bad connection, and people just trolling. Campaign Matchmaking was not very good in Reach.
However, it would be the perfect fit for the Custom Games Browser. The host can title the lobby whatever the objective was (Ex: “Vidmaster Annual”), and kick trolls whenever they pleased.
