Am I missing something or is this a bug?

I haven’t made a map on Halo 3 forge in a while and decided I wanted to make one for when the season 8 update comes out. I JUST managed to get at least what I wanted on the map but I was wanting to add a bit more fine detail to the map but now I keep getting the pop up saying “Could not create object. To many on map” even though the items I want to use I still have some to use, it doesn’t matter what item I want either I get the same message. My budget is also $3099 left so I know I haven’t hit the cap yet. Is this a bug or am I just missing something?

EDIT: I tried deleting a weapon and swapping it out with another one and I was able to do that, but after that I’m still in the same boat. The game is acting like Im hitting a cap even though as far as I know I’m not

No, it’s not exactly a bug. In every Halo’s forge there is a universal object limit that is separate from budget. It caps how many objects can be placed on a map. From what I understand this value is the memory limit of how many forge items can be placed on any given map, so increasing this value would increase the file sizes for every map. Allocating M more memory would be like increasing the file sizes by M x the number of maps which could bloat the MCC considerably.

Heres another little caveat regarding the object limit, the default map objects will ALWAYS count toward the limit. If the cap is 512 items or so, and the default layout of Foundry has 100 items, that effectively means if you delete everything you only have 412 items to play with. If you re-use as many objects from the default map layout you can get a little more mileage out of the object count.

That kinda sucks if that’s the case. Sort of makes the increased budget a little useless on 3 to a degree then, its still good but unless you’re spawning all expensive stuff you won’t even come close to the budget. Maybe it’s just because 3 is older, I haven’t had a problem with this on Reach’s forge.

I actually ran into this with 4’s forge today, was just messing around building a tunnel to fly through in space, and at the end of it I placed a field of phantoms outside of the tunnel and ran out of objects to place, not sure if the phantoms chin-gun causes the limit to count it as 2.

I agree. 343 is aware of the constraint it limits on Forge, and hopefully they find a way to increase. It was a hardware constraint set decades ago, would be nice for modern architecture to take advantage of forge and let it really shine wit its increased budget.
