Before anyone goes off on me, I just want to say these are my impressions so far. This is honestly the clunkiest Halo I’ve ever played. The base movement feels fine, but the sprint, slide, and clamber feel awful. I’m not really digging any of the new guns except the Bulldog. The Skewer does not feel like a power weapon and the pulse carbine and heatwave feel underpowered. Plus I’m unloading entire clips into bots and they still don’t die, and yes I’m hitting every shot. Idk what do you guys think?
Sounds like we are having very different experiences.
Aside from clamber, slide, and skewer, I have to slightly disagree. To me the BR is slow and a tickle gun, and the covenant weapons are power houses. Bullet magnetism seems pretty good, and I’ve been top of board each game I play. It is a tech preview
For sure the movement is clunky. Needs work. I’d like to see sprinted removed, base movement speed and jump height increased a notch. I don’t like clamber, it’s annoying when I’m in a firefight and an animation kicks in.
And if 343 really don’t want sprint removed, at the very least remove that annoying camera shake (settings don’t remove it).
I saw someone else’s post suggesting it could be nice to have a slide at max speed (no sprint) if they want to keep slide. might work nicely.
also, someone suggested the skewer would be nice if it actually skewed people to the wall. It might be a better weapon on vehicle maps, could be a better balanced weapon than the spartan laser, which was a little to op versus vehicles.
One thing that annoys me in the 343 games is the sound effect when you kill someone. like a weird clipping noise like they just got zapped away. Really doesn’t make it feel like you actually killed a spartan wearing metal armour. or a shield.
It’s a flight and a “new” Halo. It usually takes time to get used to. I wouldn’t rush to judgement so quickly.
Blood staining on the ground needs to be added back. Blood spray is just a weak cop out. I will not back down from this position.
Please do not remove sprint. Let the folks who think that 2007 is better, just play MCC. My God this community is ridiculous.

this
Not for me mate i’m loving the game.
The skewer one shots, and this feels amazing to me. Feels like a mix of 5 and 3. I like sprint, helps me feel like I have agency of my Spartan, I think clamber works just fine. Honestly everything seems to work the way I feel a modern shooter should feel. I do think the TTK is really slow but I’m sure weapon balancing is towards the bottom of hot fixes right now. Overall I’m really impressed.
I found that all the power weapons were underpowered. The bulldog often takes two, or more shots to kill. The pulse rifle is particularly ineffective as shots hardly ever hit despite being on target and the shots tracking. The ravager is outright underpowered unless you’re landing headshots, but with the type of weapon that it is that realistically won’t happen unless your opponent is standing still. The heatwave is not viable if you’re using the flat spread fire mode. I think it needs a charge up attack as an alternative to that fire mode. I agree it does feel weak at times, but it is capable of two hit killing. The skewer is good, but the lack of aim assist on console makes aiming with it a pain. By the time you’re on target you are getting booted out of your scope, because you’re now under fire.
Sprint seems to be a visual effect only, and the speed increase is negligible. Slide is nice, but it’s distance could go a bit farther. The only time I find I’m draining entire clips is if I’m missing shots. The time to kill is so ridiculously short even landing a few bullets is usually enough to either kill, or break the opponent’s shield.
Commando fire rate needs to be upped, given more control when it’s zoomed in, or damage increased. Almost no reason to use it when you have the BR available right now. BR also feels a bit out of control compared to past halos. Its burst speed needs to be slightly increased, the 3 shots come out too slow. TTK is still ok with it though.

I feel like it’s a little clunky but I can’t quite grasp what feels off. The new weapons are ok, but it’s hard to mix things up when reach was such a perfect game. I mostly like the movement and the ordinance options are fun. The pinging system is a little too much like I play games where a ping is going off every 3 seconds and it’s a bit annoying.

Well, in the classic halo-style sandbox not every weapon is meant to kill well. The Heatwave is a great weapon for forcing enemies out of cover, but is poor at direct combat. The Pulse Carbine is meant to tear through shields with ease at short-medium range, but has difficulty tearing through actual health. The Skewer is meant as an anti-vehicle weapon against small/medium sized vehicles, so its not the greatest against troops. Not every weapon is meant to kill well, some have totally different roles than killing other Spartans. For the movement, yes, the movement feels weird, but that honestly looks like a bug to me rather than actual gameplay problems. Remember, flights like this are meant to find bugs and give feedback, so you reporting the movement feeling weird is great flight . . . person . . . ing. You say this is the clunkiest Halo you have ever played, and that’s true, but its not the greatest comparison considering that this is 3 MONTHS before release, which is plenty of time to get rid of the bugs. My bet is that many of the original Halo games had many bugs up until release, but were polished out quickly.
I agree slide and clamber feel so bad. Idk what the point is in having slide and clamber in halo. I understand sprint, but slide and clamber are pointless. Their probably just in infinite because 343s competitors have it in their games. The trailer looked more fun than the actual multiplayer because slide and clamber weren’t shown much in the gameplay trailer.
I mean, I disagree, but giving feedback is part of what the test is for so not really being too negative.
I do agree on the slide, it feels like when you press the button to slide there is a little delay before the character actually slides that part does feel clunky, I do like the sprint it feels good not too fast not too slow its pretty solid. The clamber is okay it could be better faster and smoother sometimes it feels like your struggle to get up certain places. There are definitely some places they can improve on but overall the core gameplay feels 7.5/10 with much room for improvement.

It’s actually funny and you must be a younger player to actually think Sprint does anything. They literally made the maps bigger to make you feel like Sprint did something Sprint technically doesn’t do anything even in the technical test you’re just as fast as walking somewhere then if you were sprinting. Your comment tells me right off the bat you don’t understand Sprint in video games. There was reasons why Halo 3 was the most popular Halo game of the franchise spoiler alert it didn’t have Sprint.

the "advanced " movement is a muddy watered down version of halo 5s. Coming out of a slide doesn’t feel that good, and clamber feels awkward at times. Hopefully these are fixed. I don’t want halo 5 movement because this is a different game…but it needs to feel smoother. The basic movement feels pretty responsive, and I personally feel that there is way less aim assist in this preview. So that’s a good thing I suppose. Very rewarding to land your shots with the sidekick. Idk if all weapons have less aim assist but definitely that load out weapon seemed to have less. Some of my friends moved down from their usual sensitivity. Mine already is kinda low, so I stayed where I’m at and use the same.
And yes some weapons feel…not that good. Some of that is due to the difficulty of use though. So considering that these weapons should be kind of…more or less a power weapon…you’re better off picking up a needler. Does that make sense? Idk. This is what feedback is for though. Along with bug issues and such of course.
I’m having a blast, I will give my take in a post in a few days but 100 percent I disagree with taking spring out… it’s 2021 for crying out loud… sprint needs to stay, if you wanna put an option in there for people to turn it off and live in the past please do so but I will always choose to have it. #sprinttostay
