After dealing with a rather boisterous, reads as annoying, individual in Rumble Pit I was challenged to a 1v1 by this individual.
I declined but it got me thinking. So I made a map and gametype specifically for 1v1s for when I’m next challenged. They spawn in a player trait zone unable to move, jump or injury me. I spawn on top of a Sniper Rifle, Beam Rifle and Binary Rifle. And I have a bottomless clip.
Yes. Being a jerk to jerks doesn’t make you any better than them. If someone challenges you to a 1v1, you should either ignore them or play it fair. There is no reason to waste anyone’s time by luring them into an utterly lopsided gametype solely for sake of some pointless vengeance (annoying them because they annoyed you).

Isn’t that what everyone else does when they challenge a person? I remember when I was challenged to a 1v1 on Halo 3 years ago. I played fair and the second he started losing he invited a few friends claiming that they were ‘here to watch’

I don’t know, I’ve never challenged anyone to a 1v1, nor have I accepted one. All I know that challenging someone or accepting someone’s challenge and not playing fair is just wasting everyone’s time. After all, the true point of 1v1 is to prove that you are better than them, isn’t it? If you cheat in a 1v1, it makes you only seem worse.

Yes, it does. However, you still get the satisfaction of not letting your opponent win.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I’m all for fair play, but there comes a point where the jerk, -Yoink- or whatever you wanna call em isn’t worth it. If hes freaking out over the game and being a jerk that much, might as well get some laughs out of it while you take him down a peg.
But yeah, I wouldn’t do that. So when I win they have no excuses. In fact, if you were really confident, you could put yourself in the bad trait zone, and then beat them.

What if I’m okay with that?

Would that opinion change if you knew that they were throwing around several gay-themed insults and only challenged me to the 1v1 so that when they won, they could peacock around and say “lol u suk” and hold that victory against me in the argument we were having?

Obviously, if they’re like that, they aren’t worth your time to begin with. It’s your choice to either be a cheating jerk, lose or win honorably and disregard any insult they throw at you, or calmly ignore them because they aren’t worth your time. I’m just here to provide guidance.
I don’t know if it makes you as bad as them, but it sure as hell means you’re time is worth little enough that you’d go out of your way to do that lol.

I swear, I’ve been thinking you are a psychologist, but this makes me think you could be a guardian angel giving advice.
Don’t let the actions of others make you what you are methew. If they win, who cares? They are pompous, they strut around, tooting their victories like trumpets and songs.
Should you win, all you need to do is thank them for giving you the practice necessary to get better.

Happened to me in reach. I spawned in a dark box with mines while he lobbed grenades at me. Worst part is I wasn’t the one who challenged.

Not at all. Back in Reach I had a map where I spawn right behind them and assassinate them. I only did it if I had a total jerk challange me. But hey, give people what they deserve.
It’s just harmless trolling, I mean it’s not like the player can’t leave the custom game as soon as they realize what you’ve done.
I wouldn’t recommend getting into a shouting match or saying similarly insulting things to a player like that, but is there really much harm in giving them their much desired 1 v 1 and not granting them the serious match which they were expecting?
No one is being harmed, it’s just a game and I’m sure a player like that wouldn’t lose sleep over it.
