Always paired with teammates who are incompetent.

I don’t claim to be the best Halo player out there, i’m not. But when i’m constantly, without fail, matched with people who are worse than me and the entire other team. Here’s basically what happens: Start team game, after a few minutes one teammate might leave the game. Continually overrun because my team can’t hit anything. I’ve got 23 kills, 13 deaths. The next person down on my team has 14 kills and 27 deaths and the last person has 4 kills and 10 deaths. This gets my team to a total of 41 kills to the enemy winning with 50 of course. And there’s nothing I can do about it. This happens fairly consistently with the scores varying by a few to get games a little closer, but it’s basically the same. Here’s an example of a bad game: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/games/halo-5-guardians/xbox-one/mode/arena/matches/2a822944-275b-4859-93e4-8ddc5d9a39b4/players/tygron?gameHistoryMatchIndex=16&gameHistoryGameModeFilter=Arena

Yesterday I had two teammates quit and I managed 29 kills on my own and my teammate was kinda alright I guess with 18 kills but he wouldn’t keep his head down when he needed to and got into a lot of fights toward the end that ended pretty badly. Here’s that game: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/games/halo-5-guardians/xbox-one/mode/arena/matches/2da900a9-38ae-4ff1-9855-00b9241d6165/players/tygron?gameHistoryMatchIndex=20&gameHistoryGameModeFilter=Arena

Something is broken in the matchmaking system. I’m tired of loosing games and not progressing in rank because it’s tied to whether or not a win or loss was given. It doesn’t care whether or not you actually did well or not. I’m tired of being matched with people who clearly just suck at this game. I’d play with friends but none of my friends play on Xbox anymore. I wouldn’t either if you guys would release Halo for the PC, but you guys keep refusing to do that. I’m sure i’m not the only person this is happening to. I’m just sick of it.

There is no fix to this outside of only joining a spartan company. I have had this issue to which is why I pretty much quit competitive arena altogether.

I understand your frustration. H5’s matchmaking is unfortunately broken for solo players. There is no team matching and the skill matching doesn’t work too well because of the low population. My only suggestion is to find 2-3 people to play with. Playing solo in H5 is basically suicide (and it won’t change in the future).

My W/L ratio in this game is the worst I’ve ever had in Halo and I feel your pain. My friends list has moved on from Halo after 3, R, 4 and MCC. I play a lot of FFA but I also want to get some CTF happening at different times. I send Party invites after most team games to try and get something happening but it just doesn’t seem to gel.

If you go random in a team list you will get random outcomes.

I would highly recommend joining a spartan company. I would invite you to mine, but we are full atm. I simply cannot stomach playing with randoms anymore. It is VERY rare that I ever got good randoms on my team, while the whole enemy team seem to be well coordinated.

My apologies if you had to try and carry me last season. It’s not easy playing against American’s on American servers when playing from another hemisphere. Throughout August I was consistently slaughtered whenever I played.

Your name doesn’t ring any bells so I don’t think I played with you. No worries.

Glad to see there’s people out there who agree with me. I hope there’s something that can be done with the rating system, perhaps rank people based on how they did compared to everyone else. If you’re in a 4v4 game for example how about if you’re 1st you get two imaginary points (or whatever) toward your rank up, 2nd one, 3rd, depending on how close to 4th they are either gets one or none, 4th get none, 5th get none, 6th takes away a point or none depending on how close to 7th they are, 7th gets -1 and 8th get console ban- I mean -2.
This would of course scale for bigger games like 8v8 where the top three would get +2 and so on.
It’s not perfect, but ideally the end result needs to be individual players who consistently do bad need to be punished while players who are doing well need to be rewarded. Right now it’s all dependent on whether or not your team wins or loses. That’s no good.

I have no idea how FFA is ranked, and FFA’s a bit too hectic for me to get into anymore. I used to love it back on H3 until I got stuck at 38 forever. Took somewhat working together with someone else (not killing each other and just going for everyone else or letting each other get more kills one game and the other the next) I was able to take my rank from 38 to 42, maybe 44 (I can’t remember). H3 had a problem where you could win 15 matches in a row and not rank up, but loose a single match and rank down. It was a complete pile of crap that I don’t think ever got fully fixed. It was around that time I kinda got tired of FFA and went to SWAT because it was really fun.

Really hope someone at 343 see’s this (they probably won’t) and either fixes the awful ranking system or implements a better one into the next game.

There’s no real fix for this. I constantly have been ranking Diamond with players who also rank Diamond but also with players who rank high Onyx and even Champion. We get smoked. I don’t understand why almost every game I play I lose because of inconsistent matchups.

This isn’t about “gitting gud” either. If the matchmaking/ranking systems worked like they’re supposed to, I’d still be able to get better at the game by playing people that are better than me by smaller margins than an entire damn league. It’s frustrating to be ranked near Onyx then just continuously get deranked after a match or two only to go up after a long sweaty winstreak, only to lose the rank up by losing one match.
