Hey lads and ladies, not long now until the next flight and im excited for BTB and PVP. So my mind has been nothing but halo these last few weeks and i keep thinking about this or that and watching videos online to pass the time. One idea that popped into my head was about Alt firing modes in halo infinite.
Im happy to see more variety with weapons in halo infinite and had a lot of fun with the heatwave and the ravager. Its cool to see more weapons having an Alt firing mode. Its one of the building blocks in halo’s sandbox ever since the good auld Plasma Pistol. Its good to see more new weapons and firing modes and then i got to thinking. How many Alt firing modes can one weapon have.
4 Alt firing modes
Now let me be clear and say that no way one weapon should have 4 alt firing modes!! Thats just crazy and would take a lot to fine tune so it can be balanced…but having more options would be fun, at least even to think about. The weapons wouldn’t have to be crazy looking or over the top. I can imagine the the “Hero ZF 1” from the movie the fifth element…lol its my favourite. I really like the idea of what would be the possibilities.
So here what we could have
RT -1st mode - RT zoomed/scoped in -2nd mode - Hold RT - 3rd firing mode - Hold RT zooming/scoped - 4th modeEven the ability to change the guns firing mode by having the zoom button be a toggle option is great too.
So some weapons could have 3 Alt firing modes or the basic 2 Alts and i have no idea how one weapon could have 4 Alt modes but it sparks my imagination. Even having alt modes with grenades would be great? I think about what weapons they could bring back and if they could have alt firing modes. For example the brute shot. Lets say 1st Alt mode standard grenade launcher. 2nd mode timed land-mine projector. 3rd mode combustion blast that can be and area affect or in another words - the ability to grenade jump. Emmm and with that said.
Equipment
What if Equipment had Alt modes?
Ah imagine that? The drop wall and the bubble shield combined in one Equipment. Depending on strategy this means the Equipment could be player focused or with an Alternative mode the Equipment can be team based.
Like i said my mind is nothing but halo right now and i cant wait for the next flight. Let’s us know what idea you have or what weapons that could be revamped and brought back into infinite. Any Equipment ideas would be great too lets us know. Hope to see ya in the next flight.

I’m okay with some of the Alt Fires we currently have. Like the Grenade Launcher having the EMP, the Light Rifle doing more damage at distance, the Plasma Caster, Plasma Pistol overcharge, and the Heatwave. It’s kinda cool that we have some many different alt fires without realizing it.
Alt fires are a pretty cool idea, especially if introduced to equipment correctly like you said with the drop wall having a bubble shield alt that you can’t shoot out of like H3’s bubble shield. One alt fire mode could be for something like the Assault rifle going from semi-burst-automatic although then at that point it would just be a weaker DMR/Battle rifle with a automatic switch.

It is difficult trying to figure out how to keep them balanced. Think the trade off with the bubble shield being stronger than the drop wall makes sense that you cant shoot out or in is balanced and the drop wall would be weaker because you can shoot through it from one side. A good trade off think is the way to go. What if like equipments, weapons could be combined also? What if they took the spiker and mauler and revamped them into a new weapon with both firing modes. It be kind of like a assault rifle with a shotgun attachment though. I do have this great idea for a long time now. What about for as an equipment you combined the halo reach ability - hologram and halo 3’s flare equipment together. There both made out of light and would act just as they did in both games with a little tweak. 1st mode would send out a hologram, your hologram would run out and if it comes in close range of an enemy it will point at them as it walks by to give a little trickery to confuse the enemy but not too much so that it can still be identified as a hologram to the keen eyed player. The 2nd mode will send out a weaker hologram and once it gets shot or reaches it destination it will then have a death animation like a falling spartan then would burst into light like the flare from halo 3. This could bring back some old equipment, give them a little revamp that could work in the snadbox and be balanced well.

Its funny that it slips our mind and you dont really think of it but when you do there are a lot of these alt firing modes and its fun to see how they affect the gameplay and sandbox.
PS5 has a pretty cool system in the Dualsense controller where the trigger tension can be halted to a point and if you hold it a little you get one fire mode and if you fully pull it down you get another.
It actually works really well, definitely more of a thing for single player as sometimes it can be easy to overcook it in the heat of battle.

Thats cool. Never got the chance to experience the PS5. Thats a very good point about single player. Maybe some alt modes with wepons and equipment wouldn’t be balanced for multiplayer could be fun in campaign. In halo 3 there was an invincible equipment that was in campaign and not in multiplayer because it would be just too OP, so maybe the idea of more alt modes would be ok in campaign.
