also.... let us disable auto flag pickup!!

Lets first assume that 343 gets it together and allows us to drop the flag in customs. The next step towards not destroying CTF is also allowing the option to turn off auto flag pickup. Once a flag is dropped to defend, bait, etc, there are many times when a player strafes or moves over the flag with no intention to continue the flag run at that point in time. however, with auto pickup, players will have to stay away from the flag in these situations. I feel that this is something that has been overlooked by the community, but really it’s only been overlooked because of the obvious fatal flaw to CTF of not allowing a flag drop. i can go into more detail of why this is an important feature, but anyone who plays CTF at a competitive level or understands competitive gameplay should already know the cons to leaving this feature out. Thoughts?

So wait, not only can you not drop the flag once you have it, but now you automatically pick it up whenever you go near it? What is 343i smoking over there? . . . are they trying to ruin the Halo series?!

unless i completely missed something, you automatically pick up the flag once you walk over it. they are completely dumbing down the game so that noobs know what’s going on, which is obvious based on “kill the flag carrier”, “protect the flag” etc etc. Who wouldn’t know to kill the flag carrier anyway?!? honestly though is it really that difficult to press a button to pick up the flag?! anyone can figure this out, even if it’s their first game. there is absolutely NOTHING that auto pickup brings to the game that is positive. it only makes the gameplay worse. I challenge someone to state one advantage to auto pickup, because there literally isn’t even one good thing about it. what’s next, you auto pick up weapons when you walk over them??

> >.> I no longer want to have anything to do with CTF.

it’s terrible. i’ve loved CTF ever since H1, and now it’s 100% ruined. I’ll play the new CTF, but I’m going to end up treating it like slayer. CTF is dead.

Couldn’t agree more, OP. I support this thread, for reasons which should (by now) be obvious.

You would think they’d be obvious to the developers too haha.

I agree with no dropping the flag, but auto pick up??? Looks like I’m staying away from CTF like it’s the plague. What if a power weapon is down on the flag? Free power weapon for enemy team even though I’m controlling the area?

Definitely.

CTF needs to be back to how it is in H3 or Reach, in -all- playlists.

seriously. you need to be able choose when to pick up the flag.

343 has made some dumb decisions, but their CTF one’s are easily the worst.

QFT

100% agree.
343i, are you trying to kill Competitive CTF?

I agree that the player should have an option to pick up the flag like ordnance drops.

However, I personally think that arbitrarily being able to drop the flag is silly. I can understand maybe moving it to a more strategic location to defend until it’s feasible to capture it, but still… just don’t pick it up… Problem solved!!! (((Shrugs)))

I’m going to agree with you on this, this is one of the worst decision they have made so far.

A key component of CTF though is the ability to drop the flag and properly defend oneself from an attacker with whatever weapons you were carrying before picking up the flag. This could be both beneficial or harmful as you could lose the flag to the other team. Also, by moving slower than normal while carrying the flag the other team is given a more even chance to respawn and work towards reclaiming the flag. As it stands now the flag carrier moves full-speed which mean that he/she is far removed from the enemies’ reach before the enemy can even respawn. 343i has seen the need to remove this ability and stick everyone with an apparently unlimited pistol (a game-breaker in its own right along with the ability to move full speed.

Yeah, I know it sucks. BUT YOU GUYS NEED TO CHILL! I wouldn’t say it will ruin the entire game all together. I’m just hoping the attributes can at least be altered slightly in the final product and I’m fine with it.

No auto pickup at all please, theres no need for it at all. AT ALL

I AGREE!
Auto Pickup shouldn’t be the default setting for vanilla CTF in Halo 4. I liked the “speed flag” gametype from Halo Reach, but only occasionally.
