Alright, enough of this BS

Please read everything, do no post an irrelevant arguments, and keep the thread pure, please. I will not reply to any BS post, and do not mean any offense even if my claims seem to be inappropriate.

These Smart Scope debates are getting out of control, and quite frankly it shocked me how certain people could make such arrogant statements.

I am against this feature, if you didn’t guess,

There are so many things that the feature is doing wrong, I will summarize the most important ones:

-it’s NOT necessary, and takes away from the whole Halo feel. I’d rather have a binocular hud and a smart link that dims the surroundings, but does not distract me with some obstructive garbage around the retical.

-tampers with previous canon; so you’re telling me that Spartans have suddenly gained a fancy new POV system for their hud? You can’t just slap in a feature completely foreign to Halo’s mechanics and wrap it up in some completely BS, shallow lore like some petty gift and not expect negative feedback. It does not cover anything up but reveals why you guys added this feature, which is my 3rd point.

-Catering to casual FPS playstyles; call it what you want, the fact that SS even looks like ADS tells me that you want Halo 5 to be classified as not it’s own thing, but just another casual FPS with extra mechanics peppered in and a Sci Fi setting. I’m okay with new people to the series, but not like this.

-If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it; zooming was what made Halo a truely COMBAT EVOLVED game. It does not need this so called SS, a fancier yet less useful version of the STAPLE ZOOM, which brings me to my last point.

-Zoom is a staple in Halo gameplay, without Zoom, it just doesn’t have that true Halo feeling which made it the FPS king that it is, or was.

To all those psuedo intellectual pretentious -Yoink- nozzles out there who defend SS, I am truely disappointed. Almost every post they have made are not relevant to the what I have to say, nor does it really change anything. Canon and core Halo mechanics are the most important topics in this matter, and NOBODY has dared to defy this steaming pile of -blam!- lore that they shelled out to blind us from what we really expect, a Halo game.

343i wants a classic arena feel? Take a page from Quake Arena then. MAKE UP YOUR MINDS! What are you aiming for? Classic Arena or just another attempt to modernize Halo, like that ever worked out. I’m sorry but this pretty much just crossed the line for many players out there. Think for a minute, is this really what you wanted? Don’t make the same mistake that you made with Halo 4.

I know that the beta isn’t out yet, but it looks like they are proceeding with this new feature. You supporters of SS don’t realize how disheartened and outraged we are, how big this issue really is. Shocking how a little feature can cause so much retaliation. This goes much deeper than even the whole thread.

Bottom line: don’t make a fanbase a promise you can’t keep. Don’t lose touch of what Halo means to us. Remember that the needs of the many (IN Halo only) outweigh the needs of the few. The outcome game will be determined by how well you can keep the core aspect of Halo and adding a TRUE arena feel to it as well

Thanks for reading, I will be reinforcing the hell out of this.

You’ll find that that particular line cuts both ways. Which populace does 343 need to service? Which guarantees the safety of sales?

This thread might escalate quickly, as well…

It’ll probably be locked before any of that happens. Do not take this thread lightly, though.

343 needs to add gimmicks like smart scope into the game to attract non halo fans. And yes it is a gimmick they said it themselves, it doesn’t change anything. If it doesn’t change anything then what’s the point? To cater to fps fan who like aim down sights. Then you have the game specifically telling you how long until a power weapon drops, telling you where it spawned was one thing but a count down timer is rather much. The game also calls out the location of enemy players from what I’ve seen which is only going to lower the skill gap. All those people complaining about hit makers and indicators are sure in for a rude surprise.

charge is just melee on steroids. I can see infinite sprint + charge being abused. But will have to wait until the beta to truly form an opinion. Halo 5 so far appears to be an improvement over halo 4, equal starts, emphasis on map and power weapon control etc. However in my opinion smart scope is just taking a step backward.

There are people who buy halo simply because its called halo, that is what brand recognition is. I have friends who only buy halo because its halo and they could care less about the actual mechanics of the game. Halo 4 was “awesome” to them but they stopped playing after a month and went back to COD. I dont blame 343 for catering to people like my friends who only need to see a super cool flashy game trailer with halo in the title to be sold on dishing out $60. Its a business and that’s how they’ll make the most money however they’ll be doing a great disservice to the majority of their fan base and will be showing a great lack of respect if they dont have a dedicated classic halo experience to go along with the new stuff.

Only thing Halo needs to maintain is the arena formula. Equal starts, power weapons/power ups on map. Other things are esential for balancing other features like descope does for cqc weapons to ranged weapons. New animations for zoom isnt a problem for gameplay. Smart Scope is basically a zoom feature for ALL WEAPONS. I doubt its game breaking.

Smart Scope wont be a problem because of…DESCOPE.

And this “Halo Feel”… LOL. Is duel wielding Halo? It wasnt in CE. What about vehicle highjacking? What about Forge? You see, when it comes to Halo there is no “feel”. There is a formula that fans want which is Arena. As long as each player can do the same thing OFF SPAWN there shouldnt be an issue. Reach and H4 broke this formula. H4 went as far to mimmick other games and removed descope.

Smart scope is not ADS, descope prevents zoom while in duals, various weapons in Halo have always had a zoom function they have just changed the mechanics slightly. I’m neither for or against until of played it myself.

Like it or not these things are coming into halo 5, I’ve said it before and Il say it once again, just hope for more custom games options…
