Alright 343i, What else is missing?

(TLDR at the bottom if you don’t want to read everything)

I’m gonna start off by saying I’m not on either “side” of the whole “delay/don’t delay the game for co-op” debate, but with that being said I’ve seen a ton of people thank 343i for their “transparency” on the lack of forge and coop at launch which I (in good conscience) cannot agree with.

Are we forgetting that the livestream chat for the tech preview had to spam “assassinations? Wut about assassinations?” NONSTOP until Ske7ch finally admitted that assassinations weren’t going to be in the game at launch? 343i most likely would’ve stayed completely silent on this topic if the community hadn’t demanded an answer.

My question is, what else is missing?
343i chose to tell us about forge and co-op not being available day one, but what about any missing content they haven’t told us about yet? Missing game modes? Weapons? Equipment?

We can’t forget, everyone, that 343i genuinely thought this game was ready for launch last year but delayed it after massive backlash. If they were willing to release it in whatever terrible state it was in last year, what state is it in this year that they deem it a “finished product”?

{TLDR: Can we really trust 343i “transparency” when they thought the game was ready to release in the state it was in last year and were probably never going to mention assassinations not being available until the fandom demanded an answer? Is the announcement of a lack of forge and co-op at launch a sign that there will be even more missing content on day one?}

Some good points here mate! They seem to have shown gameplay to build hype and kept silent on pretty much everything else in the game.
I’m wondering with all of these missing features that the game has. Is it even ready for 2021?
I feel like each week the list of things that are not in at launch gets longer and longer.

343 needs to tell us, what is in and what is out?
What do we get when this game comes out?
What is coming later and what is never coming?
Please tell us what is up for the chopping block, be transparent. Give us all of the details and work with the community. Hiding things is only going to hurt your reputation.
Infinite is make or break… Don’t let it be a break.

The fact that they told us is more than we’ve gotten before mate. And 343 doesn’t decide when the game releases, that is ultimately up to Microsoft. You really think after all this, 343 wants to release a broken game? No lmao

They also said the game was “content ready” something or other. Except for forge and coop apparently lol.

Hate to say it but I think 343 is intentionally leaving out content as The Coalition did with Gears 5. And yes it was a skeleton release. They will gradually drip out content every season instead of one lump sum.

As a long time player it is very sad to see the game launching without content that has been a staple in the series since Halo Reach (Forge, Co-op campaign & assassinations (I know forge was in 3 and co-op has been in since 1, just saying all 3 being present at the launch of a game)) Am I still excited for Infinite? Absolutely. Do I want them to delay the game? Honestly, I would rather them release a full game, not a partial game. I know it’s beating a dead game, but let’s not forget the issues with Halo 5’s launch. A quote I love, those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it. I just want this game to come out with it’s best foot forward, a confident step into the next gen, not another stumble.

Or you could be logical and see that, yes the game is content complete, but that doesn’t account for crossplay and networking/technical issues and bugs that are associated with Campaign Co-op and Forge. They’re delaying it more than likely because it’s not ready for public hands just yet, which is understandable given this is the largest Halo game yet in every way.

Is there really such thing as a ‘full game’ when we’re on the topic of live-service games though? Plus, 343 did warn us this would happen.

This is one of my biggest concerns now. After how Halo 5 went I am very skeptical on what will be missing. Are we going to be missing basic modes like infection again?

They also stated the game was “content complete”… This is complete? This is how far standards have fallen? At this point, Live service is nothing more then an excuse to release an unfinished game, then realease the rest as “free DLC” which is nothing more then finishing the game later. (Not exclusive to Halo btw)

I wish they would just come out and tell us what will be there at launch now. The bar is set so low that I cannot even expect coop at launch anymore so nothing’s off the table anymore.

For a brand new IP like Apex Legends? No, there is no such thing as a “full game”.
But for a franchise that’s almost old enough to drink? Yes. If forge was only in 3, if assassinations were only in Reach, if co-op was only in CE, sure. But they set a precedent for these features not only being included, but being included day 1. Do they HAVE to bring it back? No. But you also can’t fault people for being upset.

Microsoft needs to hang it up for Chief after this, at this point Xbox and 343 are just milking the Halo name at this point. Halo used to be synonymous with the best gaming has to offer, now it’s just a joke. This is bad for the Xbox brand as a whole tbh. All those studios and talent with nothing to show for yet. It’s a damn meme at this point.

I don’t think it’s a joke, to say that 343 had a huge undertaking with this franchise is a massive understatement. It’s even been stated that Bungie didn’t really document things like their engine code very well when they handed the franchise over to them (not trash talking, it just is what it is, 343 agreed to take over). And you don’t want to do exactly what Bungie did with Halo with updated graphics. You have to add your own spin on the game artistically and gameplay-wise, while not losing that original feeling and what makes Halo so great and memorable.

That being said, the way they’re handling the release of this game has had me skeptical for a year now. They’ve been surprisingly quiet about the release up until recently, and haven’t announced any new gameplay modes or features, like the Bungie vidocs did for like Invasion in Reach for example. They have confirmed bots and the Academy, which is cool, but to me, those are like “nice to haves” and aren’t things to get super-hyped about that will make the game stand on its own compared to other shooters. Will there be Firefight? Battle Royale? Custom game features? Fileshare? Will the campaign be expanded upon through DLC to release throughout the next 10 years? Some of these things may be too early to answer and confirm, but I feel like we should know a bit more.

Yea but what are they not telling us…

Yes. There is a “full game” with live service games.

A new and original IP like Fortnite launched content complete. Why? Because it’s a NEW franchise.

Halo, an IP older than most modern day gamers, has a full set of game modes, weapons, and expectations that it needs to meet before being considered a “finished product”.

This right here is what gets me about all of this. We were expected to believe this game was delayed last year because of the jarring graphics. Now we’re being told a year later that big features are missing. Like what? My question is just how unfinished co-op and forge was at the time and why that was never discussed. I’m starting to wonder if the delay was always planned, but they didn’t want backlash for the long development time.

Agreed. It makes me wonder if the delay was less about improving the graphics and polishing gameplay and more about actually fixing the game enough to where it’s actually in a playable state. If it came out last year it probably was going to be another Cyberpunk 2077 situation.

it didnt though. It launched then basically cut out the original aspect of itself and all its current features were added well after launch. I dont mean to sound critical but launching with one mode isnt exactly the best example of a complete live service game

Assassinations isn’t that important. It’s a fun feature but not a cornerstone element.

Forge is much more important, And would suck not being able to develop upon release. But at least it wouldn’t hinder game play.

COOP is essential to game play. It is a cornerstone of Halo and without it the campaign is practically meaningless. Sure we can play solo, but play solo for 3-6 months? That’s not very fun.

My money is on multiteam

I have been such a halo fan since the first game and I have faith in 343 but I just don’t understand what is going on when it comes to this game. How can co op not be in this at launch, how can assassinations be missing,I just have some serious doubts that this game is gonna be finished in time and we get another delay, but maybe a delay is what is needed.

They said they were content ready and were bug squashing. Maybe Forge and Co Op are content ready and still have these bugs? No reason to think they are lying.
