The launch was smooth, matches are found super easily and the game is fun.
But for God’s sake stop shoving your esports nonsense at me. We get it. You want to be in the competitive scene. I don’t. I would really enjoy some more casual game modes. PvE warzone. Infection. Action sack. Daily and weekly challenges for req packs/points.
I dunno. I just feel like this competitive stuff is forced. Every playlist is ranked and the only out is Warzone. Even Warzone feels one sided sometimes. Its either my team gets decimated or vice versa.
I miss score attack. If i could have something like firefight or score attack that awards req and xp, id spend months playing this game like i did reach. It was fun to just relax and play firefight by yourself and get rewarded for it.

even as someone who loves the play competitive I have to say you are right.
Warzone is okay, but I would love to play some CF, Infection etc would be nice without the pressure of performing and just for fun and to learn the maps without ranking in my mind.
Agreed, as a hardcore fan that prefers to play for fun rather than a fake number by my name I was pretty turned off by the beta and the way Halo was headed. Halo has always been about sitting around with friends, eating junk food and staying up all night cursing and stabbing people in the back and dragging your sack across their lifeless corpse afterwards. The entire e-sport thing feels so forced, they tried to cater to all the MLG competitive people by gutting out all the features added in the last two major Halo titles and in a way alienated both groups by giving neither what they asked for.
I miss multi-team and BTB, those are my bread and butter because I’m just here to have fun not count BR bursts and complain about AR starts. It feels like all the fun is missing, I want to do some CTF or assault then blow off some steam with a game of infection. Its like they took everyone’s criticism of Halo 4 and took it way to far by making Halo some serious business when it didn’t need it.
Couldn’t agree more. I just made a post on this actually. Its extremely annoying that there are no causal playlists aside from Warzone… and even that, like you said, seems one sided A LOT
Be careful what you say TC. Remember that Halo is a “serious esport” made by “pros”.
Sarcasm aside, 343 just needs to divy up Competitive Arena and Community Arena just like every other Halo game had.
Competitive Arena can have whatever crap playlists and starts they want and Community Arena can have:
Grifball
Action Sack
Community BTB
Community SWAT
Community Slayer
Infection
It’ll simplify everything so the MLG folks can play in their own section, and the people who actually play to have fun can have theirs.
I also would like to put a twist on your proposal for challenges by taking a leaf from DICE’s playbook; Community Challenges. For example: The entire playbase has to kill X number of enemies with a Warthog turret. Anyone who helps hit the designated goal is guaranteed a REQ pack with exclusive loot (like an emblem).

It does seem rather forced, and its as if they think Warzone in the alternative to that for someone looking for casual fun when that’s not the case. Don’t get me wrong, Warzone is fun and all, but it will never replace a classic BTB match. They should stop focusing on separating the two and more so focus on adding a variety of game modes in general.
I want to respond here as someone who has always been into Halo strictly for he competitive scene. Honestly it may be annoying that they are pushing it so hard, but it’s a huge relief for those of us that are really into it. Even games like H2 and H3 that had such a great competitive scenes got pretty screwed over when it came to support from Bunge. H2 never had an mlg playlist outside of Hardcore mode which was a ton of modders generally, and H3 didn’t get an MLG playlist until a bit after launch. Halo reach and 4 were a disaster in the competitive sense because they had no ranking system. So I feel your pain, but for the competitive scene needs to have its moment too. The more casual playlists are sure to come once the weekend social stuff starts getting around.
couldnt agree more. i love to play competitive matches every now and then but not every single game. there needs to be more social playlists. i wish that i could play a slayer or ctf non ranked playlist. thats all i want =]

I’m in the same boat and was going to say the same thing as you did, but as I was reading your counter argument, I thought to myself. It would be nice to have something to play as a warm up thats not Warzone. Sinse Warzone games take so long, I just want to be able to hop into a Social Slayer game before hopping into Ranked. Thats what I did in H3 all the time.
So I am not the only one that thinks Halo 5 launch multiplayer is all about competitive multiplayer and not for the casual players like me. Damn shame, I don’t need the stress when trying to relax, I play games for entertainment unlike all the kids that and grownup kids who are trying to become pro gamers. With only competitive playlists, even if I don’t care if I do bad my “teammates” probably do about winning and I don’t want to detract from their experience.
343 should have had at least one playlist that uses your stats to find players, but is not ranked and just cycles through all the game modes for the casuals.
Why can’t you just play Arena and not worry about the number? I don’t. I play to have fun. The ranking system ensures that I’m always grouped with people of my equal skill level. I don’t really see a problem with that.
The problem is that we have these pros like bravo and so on that are all here talking to us like its the best game ever… Watch a recent game commentated by bravo. All he does is point out the new aspects of the game and tries to convince you of how well everything works. He did the same -Yoink- for the mcc collection. REMEMBER. These aren’t the pros we used to know. They all receive pay checks now. They’re simply 343 employees who are good at the game

I agree here, after getting ranked i am playing very close matches and having a good time with my team. We all ranked Gold 1, except one person who ranked bronze, and he still has fun playing with us. I think the rank system has worked great now and in the beta, but those first ten matches are rough.
with that said I do love social matches to warm up and just mess around. I miss the days of rocket races, grif-ball and all the crazy things that are halo.
