Allow text chat to speak with everyone

Please enable text chat so we can speak with everyone, not only our teammates.

I completely agree. MCC has different filters between Fireteam, Team, and All for the chat system. Why doesn’t Infinite? It makes no sense.

On a semi-related note, 343 has really gone out of their way to remove communicative features. Voice chat being turned off by default for new players kills the social experience for people who aren’t in a party. Whenever I try to talk with people, it’s just complete radio silence 95% of the time. I don’t understand why the devs have made the game so antisocial.

Most games offer both chat and team chat. Allowing us to speak to teammates only or speak with everyone playing. Wish you could change the size of text ( and the box in general ) to make it less… Obstructive I guess is the best way to put it. Also allow us to place it on the screen where we want it.

Why do you want to talk to the enemy team? To get them tilted? Can’t think of a single reason.

Rumble pit it can actually serve a purpose to talk to the enemy. Say someone is leading by a significant amount, it was always wise to team up against him to better ensure you and others can catch up. Been a strategy in FFA game modes since Quake.

I social, it could be used to socialize and intereact with others you enjoy playing with and against too. A way to hook up afterwards and play together perhaps.

There are good reasons to allow communications between everyone in games.

Completely agree. Proximity chat is great and always has been.

It’s wild to see the differences between gaming communities.

There’s currently a concerted effort to remove match chat from Overwatch, when it seems pretty strongly supported here.

Lifetime account progression is a hot topic here that players are clamoring for, but it was removed in Overwatch due to “toxicity”.

Keep fighting the good fight.

Why use text when they can restore proximity voice chat?

Strange, every person i’ve seen make this argument is very toxic

Sometimes fun things happen with the enemy team. Even if it was toxic, there are things like “good toxicity” like being smug about a respectful play and/or outplay.

If the reason we can’t speak to our enemies just for the sake of “getting them tilted” then no game would have all-chat at all. Besides, that’s what reports are for.

Much better if we have both.

Some people prefer text chat, as they either lack good communication devices or just don’t prefer to talk directly to people they do not know.

I hope 343i can improve and perfect the reporting mechanism when launching such services.
People with low moral quality will insult others.Even cause offline disputes.
The economic environment around the world is not good, which means that many people will vent their emotions.
The environment of a game I played before has deteriorated to a terrible level.

I do not trust this community to treat the enemy team with respect at all, 90% of the time.

100% this. Besides, if someone is gonna get upset by light banter, that’s more of an issue with them than it is with the banter itself. Also, voice chat is turned off by default; so if a player went out of their way to turn it on, they should be prepared to handle a little bit of heat.

Even so, I don’t think the answer is to just silence everyone entirely. There are ways to mute people, disable voice chat, and report toxic players.

True. Speaking of VC, if we can’t talk to the enemy team for the sake of tilt, whos to say we don’t already do that to our own team? If that was the case, we should just disable chat and voice chat features with our own team to avoid tilting each other.

The point is that you can’t stop toxicity. Thats why there are countermeasures. You can’t prevent something by silencing it, as it will just exist elsewhere.

Indeed. I remember back in the 00s, gaming was VERY social. And it was glorious and fun. In recent years it seems more and more that gaming devs are completely discouraging communication with the people you play with, and I do think that’s part of why lots of games seem to be less fun than they were before. I remember how much fun proximity chat was back in the Halo 2 days. Sneak into the enemy base and overhear their plan to take your flag. Know someone on the enemy team is doing just that and trying to feed him disinformation to relay back to his team. It was great fun.

Personally it’s just an option for me, it can be toxic or not regardless but it adds a bit of Sociability into Multiplayer outside of Proximity chat

I’m throwing a bone for the people that think all communications with real human beans is toxic.

98% agree with this statement, but there is one reason you may want to communicate with the enemy team.

“Hey, we have played with JimothyJimstar_459 before. He cheats HARD. We will let you win if you only target him. He is the yellow Mark V guy with EVA helmet on. In turn, we will try our best to hinder his attempts at ruining the game. Deal?”
