A local search/good connection search options.
It’s nice that 343 are adding in some overdue features but have they heard the cries from international fans? Have they read the 70 page thread and seen the 1500+ votes on the forum here alone? Have they seen the Australian population dwindle to the point of extinction? Do they still care about the Aussie fans?
Without this feature I cannot get consistent smooth games. Every Aussie I know has quit this game (most of them unwillingly). After 10 years of fandom, after years of consistent good connection games on Halo 3 and Halo Reach, Halo 4 represented the abandonment of the international audience. It’s a shame too. I didn’t quit Halo, 343 quit me. It’s been months since I’ve played. I wanna play, but my friends and I are unable to enjoy a stable gameplay experience.
So, has this feature been announced with the new title update?
Or are we still left out in the rain?
Is there hope again for playable Halo games for Aussies?
Or should we leave Halo 4 on the shelf Downunder?
Yeah the only way I can have fun is playing at really obscure hours against the really bad players, because they are the only ones I can kill while I -Yoinking!- teleport around every 5 seconds.
I’m not proud of just playing against people new to the game or whatever but if I play at peak times and get matched with equal skilled people I am just playing a match of Harvest Teleport Slayer, every single match, and I will probably kill 2 people by flukes and spend half the time teleporting and the other half watching a frozen respawn screen.
The population is not large enough. The game already attempts to match you based on good connection.
At this point they’re either not listening to us or they’re ignoring us. It’s an absolute shame.
> The population is not large enough. The game already attempts to match you based on good connection.
Absolutely false. If I put Halo Reach in right now and enable good connection searching, I can get a lobby full of Australians with minimal lag. It’ll take up to about 5 minutes of searching tho. I put halo 4 in and I’ll be put into a game within a minute and it’ll be US hosted.
Considering the fact that Halo Reach came out years ago, and it’s population is smaller than Halo 4, it’s proof that Halo 4 does not prioritize good connection. Yet with Halo 4, with the removal of the good connection search option, we couldn’t get Aussie hosted games even 1 month after it launched
> At this point they’re either not listening to us or they’re ignoring us. It’s an absolute shame.
ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. That is all I have to say. Yes I agree the lag is annoying but that does not mean they are not listening to us.
I’m from Canada but I know the same feeling OP.
I just recently got “High Speed” again for a rural area, my old plan was discontinued for some reason last fall.
With that said here’s a speed test of my current internet:
-Test done as I posted this.
First test last week when it was installed:
-3.19 Mb/s 0.25 Mb/s 666 ms
Past internet I have for 5 years:
-5.01 Mb/s 0.95 Mb/s 65 ms
Sadly I cannot get the plan I had before and to make it worse…I’m paying double for this garbage.
Halo when played I have about a 3-4 second delay in-game. For me, even over 1 second delay is unplayable.
I don’t think it’s just Australia. America gets it too since I get bad laggy games.

Then they’re ignoring us

They aren’t doing that either. They have other stuff to work on and lots of other complaints to. They will get to it like they have gotten to lots of everything else. Be patient.
> I don’t think it’s just Australia. America gets it too since I get bad laggy games.
Lag is a avoidable in online gaming. Even in Halo 3 and Reach you’d get the occasional laggy game. But is it enough for you to quit altogether? Is it so frustrating that you play an entire night and switch your Xbox off in absolute anger? Halo 3 and Reach had local search options and it worked. My friends and I played Halo 3 from launch day till the day before Reach came out. Then we played Reach from launch until Halo 4 came out. We never had problems getting a good game. Yet within a few months of Halo 4 coming out nobody I know can stomach the lag. No one on my friends list can be seen playing Halo 4.
Why they took away local search preferences is beyond me. It doesn’t just weaken our online experience, it completely ruins it.

They have listed the problem as fixed months ago, and despite constant complaints they haven’t addressed the issue since. And they continue to work on other features. As far as they’re concerned there is no problem. How is that not ignoring us?

Quite a difference…

They can’t answer all of us at one time. They have other people they need to answer too and many other problems they need to address. Patients my good sir. I’ll try tweeting to BS Angel tomorrow and see what i can find out. She has responded to me lots on there.

Wow. I just can’t believe people sometimes.
I don’t even know where to begin to respond to this. On one hand you’re saying that they don’t have time to respond to every complaint. There’s a mega thread about this and 1500+ votes and hordes of players unable to play, every Aussie I know has quit and they’re too busy to respond? They’re working on tweaking how a weapon fires but they don’t have to time to respond to people who can’t even play the game to begin with? They’re too busy to respond to every complaint but BS Angel has time to make numerous responses to you personally? Perhaps you’re more important than an entire nation of gamers?
Y’know what, I’m just gonna stop. I don’t wanna get caught up trying to communicate with 343’s cheerleaders.
Face it kid, the feature isn’t being added, we’ve been ignored and swept under the carpet. 343 just don’t care
The game already has that feature automatically at work. But it works as well as JIP

The whole team replys to many people. Not just me and I am not a 343 cheerleader. There is lots of stuff 343 has done I don’t like but guess what your not always going to get what you want. There is also a lot of stuff 343 has done I do like though.

Yeah, apparently it’s ‘in the background’ and ‘needs time to learn our data’. I did an experiment and documented the results. 23 games and only 6 were locally hosted, the remaining were unplayable. Just months aft launch. So sad.

Thats becaus Halo Reach has a very low Trueskill algorithm (outside of Arena) when matching players compared to Halo 4, so you are more likely to get matched on region. This is one of the reasons why i hate trueskill systems and low population, all you get is red bar connection.
