Halo 5 and Halo Wars 2 left quite a few cliffhangers which I am really not sure from the trailers how they’re going to gracefully resolve:
Chief promising to save Cortana from rampancy in Halo 4. I don’t think it would have the same impact if: there’s a flashback, a fragment of her merges with the weapon or she is 100 percent dead. Now, they might not be dropping this plot thread but we’ll have to see.
Earth. Got occupied for a few years by a Rogue Servitor AI. As did most major worlds. It’s a big deal and for all the books over 6 years I d say we know next to nothing about this. Even if every Guardian just fell from the sky one day it’s not a plot point that can be easily handwaved. You’d have to continue avoiding discussing what’s going on at Earth like Halo Wars 2 did.
State of the UEG and the UNSC. Related to above, but it’s important to know what the stakes are here. Are we at Gears 3 levels of humanity on the ropes?
The Warden Eternal. They made a pretty big deal of his vendetta against Chief and Osiris.
Osiris and Blue Team.
Atriox still fighting the Spirit of Fire on the Ark for reasons never made clear.
A Flood infestation on the Ark.
A rebuilt Halo ring captured by the Guardians.
Anders trapped on said Halo ring. So did that Guardian just fall out the sky a minute after it arrived? Be kind of awkward stuck on a Halo ring in deep space.
How are things with the Arbiter? Last we saw planet got occupied by Guardians.
I mean, to be fair, it’s been six years. I get that they would feel the need for a relatively clean slate. Hopefully they’ll do some lore collectables or something that addresses a few of the state of the galaxy points. Do you think we’ll get one as part of the Advertising campaign or do you think they’ll avoid that?
Well the flood on installation 00 is resolved in awaken the nightmare and shadows of reach and divine wind are full of plot progression.

Bad Blood didn’t really say that much IMO. They’re on the very outskirts of what’s occurring and it does give you a sense of Cortana very rapidly spreading out from Earth to the Outer Colonies. But it’s short on the details and basically retells several canon fodder pieces.
I have the audiobook for Divine Wind. I understand that touches on some of the Halo Wars 2 stuff.
On “Bad Blood,” I was referring to that of Buck and Osiris., since the OP (I don’t know what else to call him/her now, still getting use to new system) asked about the state of Osiris (which is talked upon a little in Bad Blood.)
Yes, they eradicated the flood infestation that escaped high charity and resealed the containment zone. The story never intended to fully release the genie from the bottle.
