Countdown and the Anniversary maps were the only good Reach maps. Also, how is the community better at making maps with a forge editor than a development team with high end development software?

The only bad one there was forgeworld. The rest are classic’s.
I’m inclined to agree with you that every map in the game is terrible, especially the non-forged ones. There really isn’t any map in the game that I look forward to playing on when I see it in the vote, except Asylum.
> I like them all. Why even buy the game in the first place if you hate all the maps.
To my knowledge, all the Multiplayer maps were not revealed before release, and if they were, they all didn’t have gameplay footage, so people are obviously not going to be able to have opinions on the maps unless they play it first hand.
I bought it, thinking all of the maps would be balanced, but I thought wrong, a lot of them are pushed towards one team, Reflection being one of them.

I do agree that the maps aren’t that good. Halo 2 is where all the imagination was.
For the forge maps, they’re put in because the dev team didn’t want to make new maps. Why work when you can get others to do it for you for free?
This List of maps aren’t that bad – Its how we are forced to play slayer on 1 sided maps were from the start ONE team mostly RED will have the upper hand every time just because they spawn on Red side
1 sided maps like this don’t play slayer well at all .
Boneyard plays decently in Invasion. The biggest problems are the Elite Phase 1 spawns, and the ease with which a team of Shotgun-ALs can hold Phase 3’s Refinery. The first problem is easily solved in Forge, and the second is a gametype-side issue.
Forge World offered the most versatile Forge canvas and palette in the history of the series. The worst issue inherent to the map itself is its drab color scheme, which has little bearing on gameplay.
The Unanchored variant of Anchor 9 plays very well; the space area becomes a great way to quickly cross from one side of the map to the other, yet leaves players exposed enough for there to be some element of risk.
I agree that Countdown was good, but it was not without its flaws; it has too many CQC weapons for a map of its size. I’ve seen some very good community proposals for weapon layout changes.

We have the benefit of hindsight and a negative example. Many of the flow issues with these maps only became widely known in the months following Reach’s release. Furthermore, failures often teach a better lesson than successes; we got to see what not to do and why not to do it, and we learned from it.

I totally understand where you are coming from, but i wouldnt say that they ALL completely suck. there are some maps that i just dont enjoy playing anymore, and there are some maps that were taken out that i wish were still in matchmaking (uncaged/SWAT).
My main view is that i believe certain maps are usually good with certain gametypes, for instance -
Asylum: Fun when it comes to Slayer/Team slayer, but not as fun in the SWAT playlist. During SWAT i’ve spawned on top of multiple enemies hundreds of times and it gets ridiculous pretty quick.
I think alot of maps share that duality, where they are in all of the playlists, but they arent very good maps for certain playlists.
A map may be good for infection, but it may suck in the SWAT playlist, etc.
I think alot of the BTB maps have the same issue but i think it’s because of the variations of the sizes of each map. The last few times i played Big Team Battle, i found myself losing interest really quick with all of the seemingly randomized Community Created Forge maps that had infiltrated matchmaking. I’ve always been a fan of driving vehicles for teammates so ive always been partial to Hemorrhage(for it’s simplicity) and even Headlong/Breakneck (because i use to play Headlong by myself on Halo 2, using it to get better at driving the warthog). I enjoyed aspects of Spire, when it came to piloting the Falcon, but it also seemed that the lower section of Spire (near the waterfall) was just wasted space, and the only reason to go down there was to get the Banshee.
Alot of the newer DLC maps were visually cool looking, but i’ve only played on them a handful of times, and most of the time they seemed too big in my opinion, You usually spend most of the match looking for the enemy rather than enjoying the battle that ensues.
Those are just some of my opinions, I enjoy playing Reach, but ive always felt that some of the maps shouldnt have been in certain playlists because of obvious reasons
