All of the Small Things Add Up

I like the game, I well and truly do. It’s a good blend of classic and modern Halo. However, all of the little decisions made here and there are starting to add up, before the game’s even launched. That’s not good. Jeff absent as the announcer for BTB, co-op and Forge delay, (though I understand Forge to a degree.) The AR somehow being the most powerful gun in the game, the aiming feeling off on controller, the battlepass system and lack of a progression system, the useless motion tracker, the vehicles somehow being unbalanced in the weirdest way. Sometimes they dominate, especially the Ghost. Other times… They just die immediately, usually to a single Skewer hit, the Skewer being ridiculously easy to aim at vehicles, it’s a point and click Spartan Laser. Just… So many little things that are just adding up that make me less excited for the game’s release. Especially as I won’t even be playing it on release, due to the catastrophic failure to get co-op ready for launch. I just… Why, who’s making these decisions, 343? I don’t hate them, I love a lot of what they’ve done, I believe Halo is on its way to making a comeback… These decisions just make the comeback slower and harder than it needs to be.

I think it feels like trash if I’m being honest.

They shouldn’t have made it cross gen. Too many downgrades since Halo 5.

Should’ve been a series X exclusive.

It feels like a cheap Call of Duty game moreso than any other 343 Halo game.

It being cross-gen has literally nothing to do with it, I’m talking game balance, not graphical fidelity.

It obviously needs a balancing run, like any game of this calibre before launch. And some things do nag me a little. But overall I’m enjoying myself, and the direction the game is going. I’m reminding myself that this thing, despite being less than 90 days out from launch, is still basically an alpha no matter what, and also that what we have gotten to play in the flights so far is a vertical slice of what is almost definitely an ongoing design. With forge and co-op and many other features being out for launch, this game is going to have a rough first year, I imagine. But I have faith it’ll gain its feet. Gotta play the long game, now, since launch isn’t going to be what anybody wants. I’m sorry you guys hate it so much.

So it comes closer to classic Halo than H5, and especially H4, yet it’s somehow more like a “cheap Call of Duty game” than ever before?

I don’t get how the battle pass is a problem. The REQ System was much worse and unfriendly. The game is free and the BP doesn’t expire. That is something other games’ communities wish they had.

I’m sorry that you feel that way, but I’m enjoying this game A LOT. Sure, it’s a shame we don’t get co-op or Forge at launch, but there is still a pandemic going on.

They are continuously listening to player feedback and improving. That means something.

As I said in the first sentence, I don’t hate it. I actually quite like it, I just wish the game that’s been in development for about four years would feel complete. But apparently that’s a pipe dream at the moment.

it’s not just graphical fidelity.

The smoothness, the movement, the physics… everything feels like a step back from Halo 5 IMHO.

Everything felt so tight in Halo 5. Not only did it feel completely balanced… but the movement just felt so smooth and next gen.

This feels like Call of Duty with slightly longer TTK. I just run around like a fool on small maps mowing everybody down with the AR.

But just the feel of player control and everything feels cheap and stiff. None of the weapons feel like proper Halo weapons when I fire them… and the physics are just trash.

and Yes this does have to do with it being a cross gen game because it means that things have been downgraded so that they could improve graphical fidelity since Halo 5… other things needed to be sacrificed in order to make room for improved graphics since it has to run on dated hardware.

the graphics are the only thing that seem luke they’ve been improved since Halo 5 and that’s about the only thing that seems better… and it’s not like it’s that great looking of a game at the end of the day

Some people will always get mad when the best overpriced gaming box gets a game that their overpriced, easy-to-use gaming box has because it slightly invalidates their purchase.

I haven’t really found any balance issues other than the AR and weapon bloom, though. AR is just way too powerful. Too much damage, needs a much shorter effective range. I regularly get outdueled by it when I’m using the sidekick because of the aforementioned bloom. Even this far into the second flight it feels like my aim hasn’t improved at all because even medium-close range the bloom gets big enough that sometimes over half my clip will miss just because of bloom RNG, and any closer than medium range when fighting an AR is just giving them more of an advantage. It is beyond frustrating to have my reticule on an enemy spartan with a commando or sidekick for 80% of the fight shooting at him, only to get to watch him walk away with 50%+ of his shields remaining because bloom was making my bullets just barely miss him. It is IMPOSSIBLE to fully mitigate bullet bloom even in CQC without timing your shots which is suicide in the current AR meta unless you’re fighting long range.

I think it’s foolish to suggest the game wouldn’t have been better if it was a series X exclusive. some people will tell themselves whatever they need to to help them sleep at night.

My point stands. Game wouldn’t have seen any downgrades to physics like it has since Halo 5 if it were made as a series X exclusive like we originally thought it was going to be

I feel you op. You hit on many of my gripes. I personally can wait for forge and such, but the balancing of weapons (specifically the AR), the poor vehicle physics and health, too many emp weapons, the skewer being stupidly easy to use and take vehicles out, and horrid progression system are really putting a damper on my experience. I sincerely hope 343 does something and quick or I will lose interest quickly after launch.
