- Flood fight.
You build your base by forge and fight the horde of flood coming to kill you.
Example game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BVNr0gRg3w
- Power Ups for vehicles.
There will be 1 Custom Power Up for vehicles that can either have a static power or a random power based on your choice.
Why would we want this? To build a racing game.
Example game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlGSuNn-9RM
We will use the gungoose for this, and the gun will be disabled by default. The Power ups can make your gungoose faster, make the gun shoot brutheshots bullets, plasma pistol bullets, your car invisible and other things.
- Mario jumping to enchance Halo’s vertical gameplay. You jump, hit the wall, and jump again.
Mario jumping would only work on specific walls. Pressing a certain button could put you into a vision to see the walls where you could perform the specific tasks.
Example game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfd7W3If_eM
- Sliding. You can only slide in the direction you are looking at. You can still be shot at, but you will be a smaller target. You are also able to shoot back while you are sliding.
The double jumping would have to be looked at for a long time and made sure it is balanced. Perhaps make it a pick-up item? The other two ideas wouldn’t hurt the game at all, but I don’t think they should focus on stuff like that.

343 Focuses a lot on the casual gametypes like Grifball and Race. Mario Kart racing will be a huge improvement to race.
I wanted double-jump and slide to be two new base-features (and the only new ones).
Judging from the beta trailer, the slide may already be there - which would be cool. The wall-jump inclusion is more a question of map design rather than “balance”. It’s no more of a balance issue than putting a ledge in that spot of the map that you can jump onto and immediately jump off. I wouldn’t be opposed to a wall-jump being a standard thing on all walls, where the second jump is a bit smaller than the first. It certainly would allow for some really neat trick and tactical jumps to be designed into both designer maps and Forge maps.
More support for custom games would also be cool . . . your Flood / race proposals would be welcome additions.
A simple double jump would be an excellent addition to the halo sandbox. As a base ability it adds vertically to every players movement, and it will create a new skillset as players will learn to use it in unseen ways.
A directional dash similar to thruster pack that allows you to shoot while dashing would be more versatile and move to game play than just a forward slide. Also forwards slide mechanics usually involves a button combo with sprint which is something I know you are strongly against, so I am interested in knowing how you would slide?

A thruster pack going in all directions would make strafing less useful.
This is a simple slide. It will only take you in the direction you are looking, and only a few meters compared to sprints turning and over 20-30 meters. You can shoot while sliding, something you can’t with sprint. Since the slide only works a few meters we don’t have to make the maps bigger to compensate for it.
I am only giving 343 an idea that I think could work. I’d rather only have double-jump but this is thousands times better than sprint.
I didn’t write it in OP but I would also like the slide to give you momentum when going outside a plunge.
> A thruster pack going in all directions would make strafing less useful.
By that logic, wouldn’t sliding make crouch walking less useful?
> > A thruster pack going in all directions would make strafing less useful.

You crouch walk to not be seen on the radar, and surprise attack someone. My intention was never to be removed from the radar while sliding, so no.
Slides could be good for a few things. You could mix up strafing with some slides and double-jump, escape situations (while definitely not as good as sprint as you only move a short distance and have to wait for a cool down), and giving yourself a bigger speed when going outside from a plunge.
You can either jump or walk out from a plunge, but if you slide you will be harder to hit because both walking and jumping are very slow in air.

What about in gametypes without Radar?

Who crouches in gametypes without radar? People doesn’t do that, as there is almost no point.
The only times there is any point in crouching in a gametype without radar is when you are trying to avoid a sniper.
Also crouching and sliding is still very different. You crouch to wait for someone, and get the jump on them, which requires precision from both sticks, movement and aiming, because the enemy will try to run. If you set off to slide in one direction and the enemy runs away from you, you might lose him.

People crouch even when there is not radar for various reasons.
My point was, you saying that Thruster devalues strafe is a bit ridiculous when you are essentially suggesting a Thruster that you can only use while crouched.

I am not saying you can only use it while crouched. I am saying you press a button and slide a few meters in the direction you are looking. It will not take away from the ability to crouch and get the jump on someone because the areas/situations where you would want to use the two is totally different from each other.
When it comes to thrusting and strafing we are talking about the same situations. Thrusting is strafing with the press of a button, not cool. Strafing is something one should learn.

People who crouch when there is no radar is crouching for nothing, and must be in the low levels.
> Thrusting is strafing with the press of a button, not cool. Strafing is something one should learn.
A Thruster you can use once every ten seconds would take all skill out of strafing and make it completely useless?

It definitely removes skill from strafing. You can use it every 10 seconds which is true. But do you not only engage in 1 or 2 battles at the most per 10 second enough to use thrusting against almost every person you encounter?
What is the purpose of strafing in Classic Halo gameplay?
> What is the purpose of strafing in Classic Halo gameplay?
It is to avoid incoming bullets. The point is that it devalues strafing and the skill it takes. If you put in thrusting everyone get can an super-fast instant strafe with the press of a button against almost every person they attack.

So if Thruster makes your strafe more unpredictable, while you can claim that it lowers the strafing skillgap, it most certainly increases the aiming skillgap, right?

No, it lowers the skill-gap.
What takes more skill?
Moving your stick left and right to try to avoid bullets in a pace so that your opponent can’t hit you, or pressing a button?
People will also most likely always use thrusting instead of normal strafing because it is more effective, but takes less skill.
I am not saying the sliding is perfect but it is a big improvement to sprint. 343 wanted new features and I provided two that I think could fit into Halo.
Playing Mario Kart in Halo would be the coolest though.
