ALL Halo 4 Controller Button Layouts List

Hey everyone, your old pal SHADOWSTRIKE1 here.

I’ve seen in threads that a lot of people have not seen the controller layouts, and are always asking what they are, so I figured I would make a thread for everyone to reference to. I hope it helps someone out, and please let me know if it does! I will update this in case anything gets updated, or a new controller layout is released. I suppose you can feel free to discuss the controller layouts, and please let me know if you see any mistakes, or updates I have not put in.

NOTE: These are based off the current builds we have seen, and may very well not be the same as they are when the game ships.

I like the new controls, finally the D-pad is of use.

I think Recon looks the best so far, even with that strange X being Sprint.

I’m all for evolution of gameplay and what have you, but do layouts really have to change?

Crouching with B…

No thanks. I’ll stick with Recon.

its a logical choice if you ask me

btw I’m excited to see what the new grenades will do, I know that has nothing to do with this thread but given how we’re now using the D-pad for the grenades you would think their would be a reason for it.

does anyone know if we haveto
1 hold the sprint button to keep running
2 if we get shot and we are not holding sprint does the player stop running

if i can keep running while im not holding A to sprint then it will be much easier to run to/from a battle

I think it’s like in Reach so you don’t have to hold the button.

Personally, I’m not totally pleased with any layout that is offered.

I hope that they release another layout that is similar to Bumper Jumper, but switches LT and X so that Armor Abilities are on X, and Grenades are on LT.

My reasons for this:

I want Crouch to remain on the Right Thumbstick. Crouch being on B is probably going to lead to it being a toggle-crouch so that you can put your thumb back on the thumbstick to shoot while crouching. However, with toggle crouch, Crouch-jumping will become a pain, especially if you have to reach over to B to do so.

On top of that, I have not seen a single Armor Ability that does not appear to be a toggle on/off ability, or a single push ability that would require anything more than a split second push, which would work well for the face buttons, freeing up my LT for an option that I will need to use constantly.

Grenades on X just seems like a nightmare. How are you suppose to stick someone when in close/medium combat when you have to take your thumb off the Right Thumb Stick (which you use to aim) to throw it on them?

My thoughts exactly. I made a post in another thread discussing controls. I agree 100%. I think toggle-able armour abilities is SO important. If promethean vision or hardlight require being held down, its going to ruin players who prefer the traditional bumper jumper controls on the shoulders. If players can tap-on tap-off AAs then there won’t be any problems of usage. Want a medium short promethean vision usage? With toggleable AAs you can have that, with aiming!

I am just curious, How many players here play with middle and index up on the triggers and shoulders respectively? (I would hope its not the other way around lawl.)

Meh. I don’t like any of these layouts. Hopefully, Recon (which I hate) won’t be the only one with Crouch on the left stick. If only the layouts were customizable, I’ll be able to use this:

A = Switch Grenades
B = Action/Reload
Tap X = Toggle Sprint
Hold X = AA
Y = Switch Weapons
LT = Throw Grenade
LB = Jump
RT = Shoot
RB = Zoom
RS = Movement/Crouch
LS = Aim/Melee

Or perhaps AAs on the D-Pad.

For me, this is the perfect controller layout. It combines Bumper Jumper with Green Thumb, so I can maneuver more easily, while being able to zoom in at ease.

Is hold to crouch still default?
If so, B is a really bad choice for crouch…

I honestly though it would make more sense for sprint to be B and for crouch to be left stick click, so yeah I kinda have to agree that it doesnt make much sense.

Good thing they invented the RAZR ONZA. Now I can use bumper jumper settings with the default layout without having to sacrifice anything.

I honestly don’t understand people sometimes, if you’re going to buy a controller specifically for the purpose of giving you an advantage over your opponents you would think the person would just buy a modded one instead.

This is my only real complaint so far. Of course, I could just adapt. But why should I when the fix is so easy and obvious?

It just seems more like putting grenades on X was some kind of accident or something an intern screwed up and they didn’t have time to fix it before E3.

I really want to understand, but I just can’t wrap my head around it. Makes no sense at all. Seems like change for the sake of change.

Yes, it seems to be a very common complaint… I do hope that they change it, or create another controller layout with LT and X swapped. I dont see a problem in having lots of different controller layouts so everyone can choose the setup that works best for them.

If Recon switched action/reload and sprint around, I’d be very happy.

yes i like the new boxer scheme, it would work perfectly for me

Not a fan of where Sprint is on Recon. Switch that and the AA button and it will be a whole lot better, IMO.

Thanks OP, the colors help. No, seriously they do.
