All Hail The Conquering Hero..

That trailer made it very clear that Locke is going to be pitted against the Master Chief. But why? Why would ONI hunt down the Master Chief? What could the Chief have done to cause the destruction we see, and what could Locke be saving humanity from that Chief set in motion?

That’s my question… I’ve read all the EU, played the games countlessly… I dont have a single clue as what is happening. I have to play H5G and stay up to date with the ARG. I have to find out lol.

By the Prohphets!

Chief!

What did you do man?!

And I thought that 343 couldn’t get any better at hyping games after how well they hyped Halo 4.

Whatever Chief did i’m sure it was an accident… Right guys? Accidental bombing of a city… That sounds perfectly logical to me. Bites lip

You are definitely treading thin ice 343. VERY thin ice.

If Locke pulls that trigger then I hope he gets consumed slowly by the flood or just pulled apart by Brutes and eaten.

Thin ice indeed. If Chief goes then I’m done, and I’ll stick with Sins of the Prophets and pre-frakup games as my only Halo fix.

Of course if he survives, then I hope quite a few people at ONI are on the receiving end of a Spartan’s wrath starting with Osman.

Putting what we have together. The big bird could have done it, ONI pins problems on chief.

…or for whatever reason, ONI destroyed the city with an inside job. (jetfueldoesntmeltsteelbeems)

What if the Chief set something in motion as an attempt to save Cortana? Unlikely, since I think the Chief has more foresight than to blindly do anything that might bring her back, but still. He was, after all, tricked into releasing the Didact. Something similar could lead to him causing an accidental disaster. We do know that there are more Composer weapons, after all.

I doubt it has anything to do with Cortana.

Regardless, it definitely is unknown how many Composers are left in the galaxy. You can’t make anymore since the Composer’s Forge was destroyed. Not to mention a Composer would NOT cause that kind of devastation.

Not a composer, no. But what if ONI wanted a composer as a weapon? That would be quite an addition to humanity’s already growing arsenal. But I have a feeling the Chief would be against that, and maybe might try to stop it, hence him being the cause of some destruction.

I had so many chills when Locke said this!!!

You are right maybe.
There has to be a misunderstanding.
Traitor = Chief = Impossible if you ask me.

It may be that Master Chief betrayed to save humanity.

343 must answer all questions.

Halsey directly stated it in the prologue of Halo 4. “You’re trying to replace him!” He’s supposed to be dead. This might have something to do with it. This trilogy is supposed to be about John exploring his humanity, and it has been implied again and again and again that he is in fact a broken man. Maybe ONI is simply brainwashing new gen Spartans (such as Locke) to make them believe that Master Chief is a traitor so that they can replace him once in for all. Or maybe they want him dead because he’s starting to question their authority. Who knows? It’s all just speculation at this point. It’s turning out to be one hell of a story, though.

I think its pretty obvious if you play halo 4.
Keep in mind that:

-He dissobeys Del Rio’s direct order.
-He later talks with Lasky about soldiers being people.
-He lost cortana (he will do anything to recover her)
-He thinks he needs to find Halsey to save cortana.

Aditionally if you finish Halo 2 anniversary, the conversation between The arbiter and Locke its clear.

"…if he has left the fold, he has his reasons"

I thinks the chief is not following orders anymore. He is following his own agenda now.
And well things are not just black or white. Obviously the chief is not “bad” but if ONI or the UNSC didn’t allow him to follow his own objectives that could make him to go AWOL or even as I suspect he is going Rogue. And Locke orders are just to capture him and bring him back.
