Attempting to play H3 matchmaking, I find that despite having purchased the game and a Live Gold Subscription, I am not eligible to play this game online. Every playlist, save for a couple, now require all DLC. This is a dealbreaker. A game is a game, and when you buy it, you own it. You should not have to pay more to maintain its functionality.
I don’t want the map-packs for free, I want the playlists, save a few, to include existing maps only, so that everyone can play again.
No. The game is long past its prime and has been out for years. People who bought the DLC deserve to play the maps they paid for. If you’re only just buying the game now, either buy all the DLC too or just don’t play in the playlists that require them.

And I disagree with you if you think H3 is past its prime. Hell, even H2 isn’t past its prime. It is a matter of definition, and even if it is seen as a past endeavor, the original functionality of the game has been taxed by this requirement.

But there still are non DLC playlists, why don’t you just play them for now and purchase the DLC later on? There isn’t enough players to create separate playlist for DLC and no DLC, nobody would ever find any matches, it’s a struggle to find a match in BTB as it is.
It’s been like that for a long, long time now. DLC has been required for most of the playlists for Halo 3 since long before Reach came out.
Go buy a copy of ODST with the Mythic disc, problem solved.

DLC is cheap. The playlists should be DLC required. They are great maps. Either buy ODST for $10 and get all the maps or buy the dlc on market place dirt cheap.

I believe Team Slayer/Lone Wolves are the only Ranked playlists that do not require all DLC…

Mythic 1 is 400 points and Mythic 2 is 800 points.
Also, Cold Storage is free too!
I have been a Halo 3 player for years. I am greatly displeased with the DLC requirement for most of the playlists. When the DLC requirement was initiated, the Halo 3 ODST game cane out with all of the maps. At that time, it was needed for people to play those DLC maps. Now that the games are older, no one is going to pay for another game or more DLC to play these games. I wish for these playlists to be non-restrictive so that more people can play on these games more.
Yeah remove the DLC from matchmaking.

Guys this thread has been inactive for almost 2 years. Its against forum rules to revive dead posts and there was no reason whatsoever to bring it back to the front page.
And to answer bryn514 Revived, 343 have stated months ago that they can no longer update any part of Halo 3’s matchmaking due to “legacy tech restrictions”, so asking for the DLC requirements to be removed is out of the question. They have even stopped giving out Recon armour regardless of whether people have the Vidmaster achievements or not.
