Have you ever wished you could use any armor ability whenever you wanted? Think of how powerful and versatile you would feel, like a true spartan. Think of the ways it would change the pace and flow of gameplay, yet add balance at the same time. After all is it really Halo INFINITE if it doesn’t have EVERYTHING? This has been a dream of mine ever since armor abilities were first introduced back in Halo: Reach. I came up with an idea for a controller scheme that would allow for this kind of play. It’s really relatively simple, just add the abilities to a button which is unscripted, whether it be a tap or hold. Basically my idea is based off of halo 5 controls, where you have left trigger for aim, lb for grenade, rb for melee and b for boost, only with the following buttons scripted in.
Armor lock (hold down) - Hardlight shield (tap down) - Regen/ overshield (tap up) - Active Camo (hold y) - Promethian vision (hold up) - Thrusters (tap b) - Hologram (hold left) - Auto sentry (hold right) - Grapple (hold rb) - Jet pack (A while in air)I know this idea is a stretch and I doubt anything like this would be implemented into the game, but maybe with enough attention the idea could atleast be thrown around.
Infinite has the select equipment button… so I guess you they would probably continue that mechanic for consistency.
And you are going to get a lot of hate for wanting ‘broken’ equipment to return. Things such as armour lock, promethean vision, and the jet pack have been quite divisive in the past.
I don’t think most of those belong in infinite, for example the armour lock, Promethean vision and jetpack are quite disliked BUT I wouldn’t mind them in customs and campaign only.
Armor abilities would need revision and rework but they can be implemented the right way so ot promotes team work, spartan role specialization and strategy all in all while you deal with the wild shootouts of course this would mean only one ability loadout per spartan many abilities in the past where broken yet i beleive that with right amount of work and good feedback they can be designed so that they are balanced and fun after all they had the right idea with the hook and deployable cover.

I have considered the armor lock problem, I would think they would have to rework it in a way where the emp blast it gives off does less damage, maybe half of your shields, and probably make it last a second or 2 less than it did in reach, and have a longer cool down. Ultimately I thought it was an awesome feature because the feeling of blowing up a vehicle that thought they were about to splatter you or blocking a grenade last second felt so amazing. As far as the bubble shield, realistically it seems to not make sense to have a bubble shield and healing shield, so I think it would be a great idea to kinda combine the two into a weaker bubble that could still heal. I realize I didn’t explain that in my post so thank you for pointing that out.

I also like the idea of the hook and deployable cover, and agree that some if not most abilities would need to be reworked. I would be happy if they brought back armor abilities of any capacity, even if only having one at a time and needing to rely on a team to have the others. I just feel that when people play halo they typically aren’t running around with a team to meet certain specializations at all times, and this way any spartan is a true one man army. Really I am just not a fan of having to pick up your ability from somewhere on the map, it just feels less authentic.

Oh gosh Promethean Vision and Armor Lock… ><
While I still maintain that some of these features could be nice to have in PvE/Customs, I just can’t think of one time I had any sort of positive feelings for Armor Lock. P.Vision you could at the very least imagine some horror-esque custom game played with it…
Canonically armour lock is always possible to do for spartans, same goes for thrusters, and in some occasions I believe active camo has been too (Chief’s new armour in Shadows of Reach? Correct me if I remember incorrectly). And ofc the grapple now too.
As for the others, they don’t seem to be built into the suits generally, so they might not fit into the “true spartan” idea.
While the idea is interesting I do unfortunate think it would break the gameplay. Could be very fun as a fiesta kind of gamemode. I’d be down for that.
In campaign I don’t even like when thrusters and grapple are core mechanics, I just prefer variation with abilities like that.

See I LOVED H5’s motion system (don’t kill me) it was fun! I love climbing and sliding, slamming and ground slamming. Armor abilities that are preset into your build would be a blast. Even in gameplay if you don’t drop the CORE armor ability as a pick up and leave it to a class it’d rock. It’d make for an awesome fiesta AND a team based Rank of its own type.
Something that wouldn’t be thrown into rotation, you know what your picking in both social and ranked cases
I’m happy there are no AAs in Halo Infinite but, if there will be, I wish they were only in social mode. Halo Reach MLG V7 was a good example of how to handle AA.

Yeah that’s kind of where I’m at with it, if it’s been in the games before, we know they can do these things but we just aren’t allowed to. I just hate to see great features removed from games. (Why I quit playing assassins creed) Especially the Thrusters, we have an entire humpback jetpack looking things coming out of every Spartans back but it’s just for show. I don’t think competitive modes should necessarily have every armor ability, but atleast the Thrusters. I just think games developers should always be finding ways to give us more without sacrifice, if that makes sense.

I agree 100% they would only belong in social modes. And maybe not even necessarily all social modes. Some could even limit which ones you can and can’t use, or even be limited by what map you’re playing. I just know they could find a great way to balance them. I am a firm believer that we should always have Thrusters no matter what, however.

I remember that in the flight keybind settings there were specific key binds to equip specific equipment. This possibly hints to a game mode in which all equipment is active and you can scroll through them to use.
