Air units too overpowered?

I can’t be the only one that thinks this. Air units seem to be the only thing I ever play against especially in 3v3. They seem to be the thing anyone ever uses. I can spam reavers and wolves all I want but all they gotta do is glass beam my force and bye bye base. Anyone else have this issue?

Air Units in 3v3 has been an issue for a long time because of the size of the maps and the pathing on some of the maps for ground units. They’ve made tweaks over time to slightly weaken air but never too much because air is relatively balanced in 1s. I kind of wish they would add more splash damage by AA units. They also have to fix Deci Banshees (but thats another story).

Most of the time, if you let someone get to air mid-game unimpeded (no denial of second base, harass on main, rush, or dominate all the power nodes etc.) in 3s, then you’re likely going to lose (or have a very close match).

You’re certainly not alone in thinking this, but as Jimmins rightly said, the game is balanced around 1v1.

There was a time when AA had splash damage, but all those people who play only air (or whose entire build is to get them to that stage) complained and it was reverted.
I thought that was a shame, because air is the easy option (cost, pop cost, build time, manageability, speed, damage) and adding an element of micro would have been fair, given that the ground game has to deal with the likes of siege turrets and army killing LP’s – not forgetting the meme beam. The general advice against the beam is to just “split your armies”, perhaps AA splash should be returned, and it would force those “all units” players to actually do some splitting themselves.

Alas, it is unlikely to be changed at this point. The satisfaction of beating players whose only tactic is to spam air is incredibly satisfying though!

Mix engineers with your reavers and then waste their base with wraiths. You don’t even have to upgrade air for the engineers to be effective.

In 3v3 even though if the game gets to tech 2 then one army of units will be air most of the time it ends on tech 1 and having ground armies for support is vital for the win. I think the bigger issues is when I’ve been playing with lower level players they don’t know how to build effectively in tech 1 and so can’t really get ina position to counter a spam, against such players a core vehicle spam for example is also very effective but most people don’t opt for this as it takes a little more skill in positioning due to the loss of mobility. Even though in general the increased strength and resistance to counters is worthwhile people aren’t good at countering such spams. Thats what I thought but unless you have a big amount of small air units, or if you have you strong air units, then you don’t have a good army.

The problem in 3v3 when it comes to air is when 2 of the 3 players coordinate and gang up on you with Max population of Air… then the 3rd player has has scarbs or max population of tanks

only way to counter is to draw them back towards your base so your turrets can help along with using your leader powers
