Aiming On Console Is Fine

If you need heavy aim assist to compete with pc players you’re not very good at Halo imo. The general gunplay is very smooth and the aim assist that is there is snappy and responsive without being obvious.

I agree. It’s more accessible than ever. Go to your settings and play around

The low default sensitivity while smart scoped was throwing me off pretty bad for my first couple games. After going in and adjusting it, the game felt a lot better for me.

I strongly disagree.
Halo has always had strong aim assist (perhaps not as much in 5) and I thinks its a big part of its appeal, especially to the broader video game community. As much as the pro/competitive/hardcore scene would maybe prefer otherwise, the social/casual/justplayingforfun crowd are the heart and soul of any game’s playerbase and I worry the current aim assist settings will be a big hurdle to jump for them.

No it hasn’t Halo 2 and Halo 3 have little aim assist. 4 and 5 have an obscene amount

Yeah no it needs to be higher. As is aim assist is practically nonexistent (I’m not even convinced there’s any at all), which makes using a controller a very unfun experience.

I’d like it to be at about as much as halo 3. Maybe slightly less.

What matches our actual settings tho? My horizontal is set to 2 and when I set the zoom at 2 it feels faster. I really can’t tell if I’m tripping out or of it actually is faster. I wish we could set sensitivity in .1 increments. I may make a thread in feedback for this because half increments don’t hit the sweet spot for all players imo. Myself included

I had a tough time with this at first but after dropping dead zones down and increasing sensitivity I feel more in control. It felt sluggish at first but now I think my accuracy has improved. I think the level of control in the settings is adequate, just takes some tweaking to get it right for you.

It really isn’t. It feels completely turned off. Needs to be turned up.

Have you played 2 and 3 recently?
Both have far more assist than Infinite does right now. I’d say Halo 2 has some of the strongest aim assist in any Halo game, with 4/h2a taking the top spot.
I’d disagree with your take on 5, it had the highest bullet magnetism, likely because of all the advanced movement but to me the aim assist felt like the lowest in the series up until Infinite.

H5 actually has the most aim assist (by far) of any Halo title. The high movement speed of the game, combined with the fact that aim assist on targets is disabled while their thruster is actively engaged, it may not seem like it has the most. There’s plenty of video research available on YouTube showing this is true though.

For Infinite I think they’ve gone the route of drastically reducing aim assist, but drastically increasing strafe speed and acceleration. This means that you have to use your movement stick to make aim adjustments that used to be helped with aim assist.

While it’s a little different than other Halo’s, it doesn’t feel bad to me. My guess is this brings the feel of aiming a little more in line with the other big shooters, which will make it easier for other gamers to transition to Infinite. Whether that’s good or bad is just individual opinion .

I am talking halo 2 and 3 as they were, not the adjusted MCC versions which are their own game.

I sort of agree that the aim assist should be lower as in past halo games it was wayyyyy to easy to hit all your BR shots however, I don’t know how casual players a fairing rn and I’m afraid I will have an H5 situation where the aiming skill gap is so high that from 2017 on the only people left were me and my fellow sweats playing. So I think maybe aim assist should be bumped to a level a little under H3s maybe a bit less.

The originals also had very strong aim assist.

no they weren’t try sniping in halo 3 vs infinite, it is harder on 3 by far.

Weapons being difficult because they’re projectiles isn’t mutually exclusive with high aim assist. If you’re within RRR, H3 has some really darn high aim assist (unless you have a bad server connection for the match)

Maybe it’s fine, fine tuning the settings to find your personal sweet spot is in my opinion an absolute pain in the -Yoink-.

I start up CE, no issues.
I start up 2, the game has training wheel level of assist and magnetism so I don’t count it.
I start up 3, no issues.

This game, things feel off. Now I’m guessing that I just have to fiddle with the settings more but that’s a right pain in the -Yoink- when I can’t load up a map by myself and the test range is timed.

I think snipers are generally their own thing, where the aim assist is obviously lessened relative to the rest of the gun arsenal. It’s aim assist values in and out of scope have varied considerably throughout the years.
I’m talking more about the aim assist feel of regular gunplay, not precision power weapons, which is a whole other kettle of fish.

I wouldn’t mind if it had a bit more as it feels that there isn’t any at all, but I haven’t tried adjusting anything yet so I may have to give that a try.
