Aiming is one of the first and most important aspects of a first person shooter. It’s the first mechanic players interact with when loading into a match/mission. With that being said, it’s a given that such a mechanics be given a high priority in development, right? Well, the aiming system in Halo Infinite sadly does not reflect that.
It’s really surprising to find that 343 still doesn’t have aiming for the main titles down, yet they managed to fix it for MCC years prior. Compared to the sluggish and unresponsive nature of Infinite’s system, MCC feels seemless and intuitive to use.
There’s a clear difference in the quality between the two games. The main reason for this sluggishness is Infinite is using a slower sensitivity curve compared to the other games. To give an example, 10 in Infinite feels much slower than 10 in MCC.
To see what I’m talking about, check out this reddit post:
Yeah, I did. Have you adjusted all of the settings in your game to find the right balance for you? There’s more than just a 1 - 10 Sensitivity scale now, you know. We have the ability to change the acceleration as well as the sensitivity, as well as the deadzones.
So it sounds like you need to adjust your settings more to fit what works for you. Chalking it up as “har har, 343 can’t get aiming right” is just really ridiculous and… so worn out.
It’s especially jarring to play some MCC and then switch over to Infinite. (Like when MCC crashes and you’re looking for something to do while you wait out your ban timer.)
My guess is they’ve gotten bigger problems. If they could figure out how to fix the server issues and desync it may have an affect on these other issues like the aiming.
I’m not saying that the servers and desync are the only reason aiming is screwy but trying to fix the aiming without fixing the servers and desync would probably not be very successful.
Another issue like this is weapon balancing. Is it really going to help to try and balance a weapon like the hydra when half of the shots miss because of desync? Nope. The servers and desync have to be fixed first if you want to successfully fix the other issues.
The real question is why does 343 call fixing the servers and desync a priority and then move the people working on it to work on something else???
Beside the games were the aminig feels completely off due to desync, foreign players/server and I guess FPS difference, for me the aiming feels nice. BUT:
I stopped playing MCC years ago. Never expereinced the fixes…
I play on a pretty low sensitivity and acceleration. I think right now I’m at 2 or even 1.
But I get the criticism. When there is obviously a good system in place and noone asks for changes… why inventing the rolling wheel again? Just copy it over to make feel people at home.
My aiming is not the greatest to start out with by any stretch of the imagination but the thing that really throws off my aiming bad is that it seems like everyone playing is a strafe demon. Some people can strafe so fast that it throws my reticle all over the place. I have tried playing with my settings but I can never seem to move that fast when I strafe but other people are flat out break dancing their way around my bullets.
Yeah, it’s about aiming, and I’m stating my opinion that the aiming system in Infinite is just fine. There are plenty of options given to you so that you can fine-tune that aiming so that it does not feel strange and uncomfortable. Chalking it up as “Ugh, 343 can’t even get aiming right” is absolutely passing the buck.
You’d be wrong in that assumption. You can’t match the curve using the in game settings. The acceleration setting only changes how long it take for the speed to build up. It does not change the amount acceleration.
This is why I’m asking 343 to fix it. Do you get it now? Are you done with trying to profile me as a complainer when all I’m trying to do is get some eyes on this issue?
The aim assist feature set needs to be nearly completely untethered from the movement stick. The fact that a ton of the aim assist features only kick in while actively moving is terrible
“343 can’t even get this right” isn’t an effective method for “trying to get eyes on”. Nevermind that your issue more reads as “This doesn’t play like past games” rather than “This mechanic does not function at all”. But I know, I’m “missing the point”; Gods forbid someone disagree.
And to be clear for you, I disagree because for my experience (one in a million, yes I know) the aiming works just fine. More than fine, really, it does exactly what I need it to. If the aiming were to be “broken”, this would not be possible at all.
