Anyone else finding the aiming in this to feel incredibly strange? My aim on past Halos and other shooters has always been pretty dang good on default sensitivity, but I’m struggling to aim even on a 1 sens in Infinite. Reminds me of what quake 3 on the 360 felt like, which had 0 aim assist.
Might also be exacerbated by the framerate feeling slower than I’m used to on mcc.
Never expected to be complaining about aiming controls in a Halo game, it is what it is.
Pretty normal for me, didn’t notice anything strange about the aiming
The aim assist just feels like its toned down and the rrr on may weapons are a bit off. I only use the ar, br, and the sudo auto dmr(forget its name) every ither weapon so far to me seems to “off” sniper and skewer juat seem way to aggressive of a skill gap compared to past halos. Bit they are power weapons so i can sorta underatand those.
I like it but it is noticeably harder to aim than previous Halo games. The sniper is pretty hardcore and will take some getting used to.
BR gameplay is very nice.
Personally the aiming did feel a bit odd, as in odd I guess I mean different than halo 5. I’m on controller an it kind of felt like I had 0 aim assist, might just have to get used to it first but idk. It seems a little more catered for m/k imo.
Turning look acceleration up to a 5 seems to make it feel a bit more like default MCC and helped me out quite a bit. Funny thing is I usually turn that setting way down in other games, but I also don’t usually have to play on a 1 sensitivity like I am here. I usually play on a 3 or higher in other games.
I also read that turning your deadzones down to a 4 or so is much better than playing at the default 12%
Quite weird, but I reduced to 3.5 horizontal/vertical and it feels somewhat better. Can’t be sure until we are liberated from 30fps hell.
Well, its a flight, this is what flights are for!
I fully expected problems to be all over the place, but this is probably some bug that the devs have not gotten to yet. I’m sure that after this flight they will be aware of the problem if they aren’t already and will fix it soon.
Using controller on PC felt really weird but when I use controller on my Series S it feels just fine. Idk whats the deal but ill just have to use KBM on PC
Same aim feels super off on pc controller.
There is incredibly low aim assist in controller, if any and the look acceleration feels really weird. The former I can kind of understand because streamers dropped MCC on PC in about a week because they couldn’t compete with controllers and mkb players have been complaining since day 1 about aim assist being too strong on controller. The latter I hope is just something that needs tweaking with the flight.
You’re not alone. It feels weird for me too on PC.
To describe it, it reminds me of a bad translation on my XIM4.
The game will not let me draw a perfect circle with my crosshair (using a gaming mouse). It feels like it’s trying to follow either X ↔ or Y
but never a combination of both.
Like classic aiming on Halo MCC.
The bullet magnets are toned down…this is what your actual aim is like
From what I can tell, the most impactful change to the aiming from previous titles is severely reduced auto aim. Bullet magnetism still seems to be there, but not at al the degree if other titles as well.
Using your movement joystick while aiming seems to be more important in Infinite than in previous titles from my first impressions. Hope this comment helps someone. –
My understanding of the term definitions I’m using
- Auto aim - the game will assist your aim slightly, by either by actively pulling the reticule towards the enemy player, or slowing your sensitivity down to keep the reticule on an enemy. - Bullet magnetism - when you have a red-reticule, bullets you fire get pulled towards the enemy player. This can slightly change the angle of a bullet’s path from your weapon to the enemy player, as the projectile angle is altered from hitting dead center of your crosshair, and instead angles towards the enemy player.
In mcc there are two types of aiming modern and classic in infinite it can only be on modern i feel the same we need classic aiming
Aim assist is reduced to the point it almost isn’t there. Bullet magnetism is reduced from all the past games as well. Bullet magnetism, barring special tracking features that weapons like the Pulse Carbine and Needler have, should only be very minimal to help with network variances, so that’s honestly not much of an issue in Infinite (On my connection at least, it may be a problem on others). But aim assist is needed to make playing with a controller enjoyable. It should be brought up to just under Halo 3’s level of aim assist to see how things go. People are getting really confused about PC vs console arguments regarding aim assist as well, and it shows that both sides have little experience with and understanding of both platforms input methods.
Because it fundamentally impacts the overall enjoyability of the game for a very large portion of the player base, this is one issue I think 343 is likely to address. But by all means, people should keep making 343 aware they dislike the ridiculously low aim assist on controllers. There is an aim assist sweet spot somewhere, but the current level is definitely not it. Hopefully the different flights will each test different levels of aim assist.
I have to say I took it for a spin last night, and the current assist feels like I am hitting a barrier on higher sensitivities. I had to turn accel all the way up, then turn sens to 3.5 or less. Even then half of the time I just connect with target and let go of aim until recoil kicks in then compensate. A lot of people are saying it is toned way down, I would just rather have the option to turn it off entirely like the majority of controller games. Probs going to have to stick to MnK for this title though
I felt the same way when I first started playing the game. Felt like the aim assest was turned way down or almost off. Then I played around with the field of view settings.
By default mine was set at 75.
Changed that to 100 and its SOOOOO much better.
Give it a try and see what you find!

After a few more games Its clear that upping the FOV definitely helps. But it definitely needs to be increased.
Halo is a control based game. Always has been. Always will be.
