So there is a lot of discussion regarding the odd aiming style halo 5 has. You can test this by going into the game and spinning your control stick in a circle and watch as your camera does not follow a clean circular pattern and eventually you will be looking at the sky or ground after a few seconds of this. As it turns out for some reason halo 5 has much slower aim acceleration in all diagonal angles. I wouldn’t say this game breaking as some people make it out to be but it can be annoying at times especially for hardcore multiplayer types such as myself who begin to notice this lag in aiming while in the “zone” so to speak.
I decided to see if I could fix this issue with the highly customizable elite controller and run some test. For those of us that have the elite controller you can access these settings in your xbox accessories app that you use to configure the elite controller.
First test was stated as above using all default right control stick sensitivity settings. Using the rotating right control stick test I was soon looking at the sky or ground after a few seconds each time I repeated this test.
Second I set the right control stick to the Slow Start setting and repeated my test of spinning the right control stick in a circle pattern. With this setting on it REALLY exaggerates the differences in looking straight up/down and left/right versus any diagonal direction. Aiming is virtually impossible under this setting.
Third I used the instant start setting but it resulted in the exact same results as the default settings.
Finally I used the FAST START Setting and I was shocked at the difference I found. Using the Fast Start setting almost completely eliminates the odd decrease in acceleration in the diagonal directions. When using the spinning control stick test I can easily maintain a near perfect circle pattern on the screen with little to no drift any direction! So set your elite controllers to the FAST START setting for the right control stick and enjoy!
Nope it didnt fix it , the problems got even worse now it jumps allover the place when trying too track another player very slowly and minor movement with joystick …
tried sense 3-4 , and 10 . minor movements with joystick will get it too randomly fly 3-4 cm off target …
I’ve been using the second profile on the controller to fiddle with this and have seen no discernable difference from default. It may offset the dead zone problem a wee bit but the acceleration still ramps up as intended in the game engine. I’ve seen posts on here suggesting 343 purposely fiddled with the aiming to market the elite controller but I think its the opposite, the game engine neuters the stick sensitivity settings the controller offers.
a bit puzzled using the hair trigger locks does not allow you to charge weapons like the plasma pistol and incineration cannon. I ramped up the trigger sensitivity to the max and it didn’t work. A pain trying to find the little switch while playing to use things correctly.

If you reduce the trigger activation range to 50% you can use lazer and pp with hair trigger locks. I did it and it worked.
I’ve been usin the delay setting and it’s been helping, have yet to try aggressive yet though. I’m on the NXOE though and apparently the app is different than the one on the normal dashboard
I’m having similar success, and much more fun, in H5 now that I’ve found the right setting for me on the elite controller. I’m already playing above what I was able to achieve before getting this. I have always played Halo on higher sensitivities in all previous halo games, ranging from 7-10 in sensitivity for all halo games including H CE. I had my sensitivity maxed at 10 for H5, with no luck at improving the deadzone. Now after using the default, delayed, smooth, aggressive, and instant, I have found smooth, which has a smaller deadzone and a faster start than default, but not as exaggerated as aggressive or instant, and a sensitivity of 10 in game to be the best fit, which feels the closest to other halo games for me. To give you an indication of what I have with other shooters, I use the default elite slot, and 7 sensitivity for Destiny, and somewhere between 6 and 12 for COD games, depending on which one. I was going to get an elite controller anyway, and will still appreciate 343 addressing this on their end with the more customisable sensitivity and deadzone settings they said they would deliver; but that’s just about the principal of the thing. I’m quite happy to keep playing it without them changing a thing however people shouldn’t have to buy a new controller just for this which I’m sure some people have. The controller is a great investment if you don’t want to keep buying replacements cos the vanilla controller wares out.
