Aim tips for returning player

Hi guys,
I used to play a lot of Halo particularly 4 and 5 (I didn’t get into gaming until the dying days of 3, though I have played a fair bit of Reach). Unfortunately I kinda lost interest in Halo and started playing a lot of Overwatch and Rainbow Six Siege but I really want to get back into Halo. However, I’ve discovered that my aim has really gone downhill, particularly with precision weapons (which is annoying because the UNSC sniper rifle is perhaps my all time favourite weapon in gaming). So my question for all of you is do you have any tips for re-training my aim.
Thanks

  1. Find the right sensitivity and deadzones for YOU and don’t just copy some streamer/pro players settings. Having said that, the typical range of sens for most high-level players is probably between 3-6.

  2. Learn to aim with your left stick the majority of the time. This is hard to explain, but if you’ve been playing Halo for awhile I’m sure you heard this before. Your right stick should mostly be used for small adjustments to your aim. Avoid flicking and pegging your stick as much as possible.

  3. Build muscle memory through repetition and playing octagon. I don’t agree octagon is the end all be all for training your aim for multiple reasons. But it definitely has its benefits. At the very least, its a good way to get warmed up before real matches. Avoid doing it with the same person constantly though.

  4. Always try to predict how your target will move. If you know they have thruster off cool down, then you should always be ready for it. If you start shooting an enemy that just used it, then keep in mind their ability to evade your shots is going to be restricted to strafing/crouching. These should be the easier gunfights to win if you stay aware.

There’s definitely more to it than just these things obviously. But that’s all I can think of off the top of my head. Hopefully it helps and I didn’t just reiterate a bunch of stuff you already knew/heard. Good luck! :relaxed:
