Aim down sight or classic scope

Before HALO 5 came out a lot of people were talking about how aim down sight would destroy the halos experience and take away another thing that made halo different, however now i don’t here to much of it.

For me i prefer the classic scope and am hoping the classic DMR and Magnum from halo reach are added in the next update so i can get back to using the classic scope rather then aim down sight rather then only having the classic BR.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

I don’t know, I think the older scope is more Halo obviously, but for some weapons like the BR and even the magnum, I feel like I can aim better with the ADS, maybe its just the increased magnetism that creating the illusion of more precise, I don’t know, but to me, I think ADS, for those weapons, feels more precise, in truth I am indifferent.

Its just zoom. Nothings changed

I still prefer the classic scope over the animation, partly because the animation is just unnecessary, and mostly because I felt a slight delay before firing when using the animation that I did not get when playing the classic games with the OG scope.

Halo 5 ADS has grown on me, I like the new animations. I now prefer it.

I was initially against the premise of ADS in Halo, but it has definitely grown on me and I think it fits the pace of the game.

^ Oh, and this is a good point.

It just doesn’t make much sense with weapons like the Battle Rifle and the Covenant Carbine. You are wearing a full head protecting helmet, it is really difficult to get your head in the position to aim down the physical sights of the weapon with one of those helmets on.

Why not just have an in-game toggle setting? Then people can choose default scoping or classic.

In addition to that point, being shot while smart-scoping kicks you out of the scope.

So really, it’s not too different from classic Halo implementations besides the animation. The timing between the two systems might not be too different either, as it did take a partial second to get into it.

But to answer the OPs question, I wouldn’t mind more classic-style scopes just for the fun/variety factor.

That has been asked ever since the beta. Unfortunately, it does not seem like 343i is going to do that, because then everybody would switch to the classic zoom. I mean, which would you prefer: an animation where the weapon still obscures the bottom half of your screen, or a scope with grayed out borders?

I find smart scope to be a pleasant change. It feels appropriate for Spartan IVs somehow, and I have a head canon justification for it lol.

I like the current system. It feels good.

agreed

I still prefer classic. It’s just utterly pointless to have it on a shotgun or plasma pistol

I am with this guy.

The only difference seems to be the animation and some automatics might now be more accurate but I think that’s there the only differences.

I say it doesn’t matter personally and I say I really like the Classic br scope. But I can live without

I think some are missing the point, the classic is better. The new system reduces your field of view. and there is no point in give weapons without scopes a zoom. I’ve always thought that what happens is the helmet syncs with the scope on the weapon and when you “zoom” your armor was just using the scope on your hud. I’m still pissed they got rid of the binoculars. It was good for spotting. 343 ideas about changing things because other shooters have them needs to stop. Here is an idea how about instead of taking things that other shooter have why not make halo, HALO and add things that complement the core gameplay like how you can change seats without getting out of your vehicle.

Classic all the way, and yea it does change gameplay, the new system has a tighter spread on automatic weapons and increases range on some such as the needler

It’s one of the few things I would’ve refused before trying it that I actually don’t mind. I could go either way, but 343’s handling of the ability thankfully keeps hipfire as an important gameplay mechanic.

It’s made a more effective weapon out of the AR (after Halo 4’s buff, of course), and after struggling to understand how it fits into established lore, I’ve kind of accepted that it’s just an alternate aiming technology.

Even though you can aim weapons you couldn’t before, they don’t drastically change Halo gameplay like other mechanics do. That SMG can shoot just a bit further when aimed (though it does wreck already), and why are you even aiming the Shotgun? This mechanic hasn’t done really any damage and really just helps buff some weapons.

Sadly, the ability to aim every gun has effectively killed my ability to use the Recon control scheme in Halo 5, but I’ve adapted to that with the custom button mapping.
