Aim Assist needs a buff! Not a huge one but still

Because controller players that have spent thousands of hours playing with controller don’t want to put the effort into M&K because they’re comfortable with the level of AA that has been holding their hands for so long.

Wow, do you really think that’s all there is to it? Have you the impression that PC is objectively more fun and those who disagree with that do so just because they can’t handle it? Do you even believe that this is likely yourself?
You don’t think there could just possibly be a tiiny little chance that everyone just have different preferences for different reasons?
You’re suggesting that people avoid pc just because it’s harder? This is a head-scratcher indeed.
”Refuse” to switch, I wasn’t aware that someone was trying to make them switch :joy:

But that’s their choice so it doen’t matter. Crossplay is always optional.

Whut…yeah… but, if they create the game with this feature in mind that they intend for people to use and enjoy they are probably gonna want to make it balanced… I assume that’s something they intend to aim for, don’t u think?

The aim assist is actually pretty decet and balanced if you have you change a couple things. I didn’t realize this till the end of the flight, but theres a couple ways to make controller aiming better. First way is to drop your look acceleration to 1. If you don’t like that then the second way is to make your horizontal look speed half your vertical look speed. If your used to Halo 5 multiplayer I don’t think many people realize that the second way I listed is how the default aiming works in H5. If you pick 4 for example then your horizontal speed is gonna be 2. Either way, when I messed around with the settings like that it became so much easier to aim on console preview and in my opinion felt pretty good.

> Wow, do you really think that’s all there is to it?

No, i’m sure there are other reasons for using controller. Like if you play on console or you don’t have fully functioning fingers and hands.

> Have you the impression that PC is objectively more fun and those who disagree with that do so just because they can’t handle it?

Not sure where I said PC is objectively more fun; although, it does enhance the experience comparatively to console.

> Do you even believe that this is likely yourself?

Yes, I do believe I am myself.

> You don’t think there could just possibly be a tiiny little chance that everyone just have different preferences for different reasons?

Other than the reasons I listed above (console player/disability), no, I have no idea why someone would choose to use a controller other than the reason I already stated “Because controller players that have spent thousands of hours playing with controller don’t want to put the effort into M&K because they’re comfortable with the level of AA that has been holding their hands for so long.” Please provide insight. Controller users that play on PC purposefully gimp themselves and then complain that the AA is too low, doesn’t make sense to me. If you’re a console player and all you got is controller then OK, fine, tune up the AA on console controller. Otherwise, if you’re on PC and using a controller, tough luck.

> You’re suggesting that people avoid pc just because it’s harder?

Again, not sure where I said that, but it’s not a stretch to say that a lot of console players “fear” PC players.

Even without crossplay, controllers playing with mouse and keyboards, the bottom line is that the aiming in the flight straight up sucked and needs to be improved before release. It’s not going to just affect multiplayer either, the campaign will be suffering from poor aiming mechanics. I’ll probably be turning crossplay off regardless but it won’t change the fact that it is inferior to previous Halos and many other FPS games on console.

If there is anything I’ve gleaned from this debate since it started since last week is that there are just as many PC players who “fear” console players because they think aim assist is practically an aimbot and so the PC players will be disadvantaged. The reality is that a mouse will always have the advantage over a thumbstick which is why aim assist is needed which many people don’t get, even other controller players which astounds me.

I’ve played with both a mouse and a controller.

That’s the reality yeah. I used to be sharp in a pc fps as a teenager, I was a especially a big sniping nerd. Took way less effort and time. I became better at that game in a few months than I am at Halo on xbox after 15 years. I’m aware that these things vary depending on game and person (Halo may not be the easiest game) but the basics of aiming with the mouse is the same in all games more or less, I personally find it easier than controller.

Same here. I don’t own a gaming PC anymore but rarely play with a mouse still. When I do pick it up it’s like the cliche “just like riding a bike” and like I never stopped using it. Controller is just more comfortable especially when sitting and how I prefer to play most of my games.

Aim assist is a low fov aimbot. Mouse will always have an advantage against a thumbstick without aim assist. With aim assist, however, it all depends on how much the developer wants to turn it up to give them the advantage over M&K. There will never be a perfect balance of aim assist to compete with M&K, it will always be too high or too low. This is due to wide ranging skill levels of both M&K players and controller players.

It is balanced its called buying a mouse and keyboard which xbox’s support…

If you want to see an aimbot in a game go play GTA or Red Dead Redemption. Of course you can never find the perfect balance, but as it is right now it’s not good for gamepad players which is why we are here discussing it.

Now you’re just being difficult though.
If you just don’t like crossplay, and therefore don’t care, that’s fine, I completely respects that.
Have a good one.

Im just being honest. I love cross play but I’m not going to act like people dont choose their playlist and controllers.

With aim assist, however, it all depends on how much the developer wants to turn it up to give them the advantage over M&K. There will never be a perfect balance of aim assist to compete with M&K, it will always be too high or too low. This is due to wide ranging skill levels of both M&K players and controller players.

> If you want to see an aimbot in a game go play GTA or Red Dead Redemption. Of course you can never find the perfect balance, but as it is right now it’s not good for gamepad players which is why we are here discussing it.

Yes because R* determined that they wanted the aim assist to perform in that way. Aim assist and aim bot are essentially synonymous, but one has a negative stigma while the other doesn’t.

You talk like you speak for all gamepad players and that you’re all in agreement that the AA is too low. However, I’ve seen many say that the problem isn’t the AA, but an issue with the controller settings. Developers can’t fix something that isn’t objectively broken.

The game definitely needs more aim assist. In a game where the use of precision weapons is so vital, going without it seems like a massive misstep. The comparison between halo and other FPS games is so dumb, so few FPS games have a TTK as high as halo, and as much of a focus on precision fire and headshots as halo requiring more precise crosshair tracking and often for extended periods of time for enemies that are straifing, jumping and god knows what else. As a casual player, I don’t want to have to spent 100 hours playing just to be able to use the weapons effectively, I want to come home from work, chill out and have a few matches of halo without having to sweat too much. If you want the game to feel competitive, match players skills more tightly, don’t just make the guns harder to aim. Makes for a super unsatisfying experience, but of course, for those who don’t want it the option should be there to turn it off, same as on mouse in the current flight. I often hear PC MCC players complaining about how hard the aim assist is for controller, but lets not go too far in the opposite direction whereby aiming becomes totally disadvantaged in the other direction.

I know i am not the best shot, but I like to think i am decent. I worked very hard in Halo 5 to build up my skills to make champion, and loved the way the pistol feels in the game but now infinite makes me feel like I can’t hit the side of a barn. I loved infinite tech flight and i think after spending a while playing it i got a lot better at it but still feel like it needs a aim assist buff at least to help controllers compete with mouse and keyboard. I played on pc, but with a controller on it and the low fps from un optimization and lack of aim assist really hurts your performance. Of course this is just a tech preview so I’m not too worried about it but i hope we see a buff!

I’m sorry but this is the most crap, “make everything easy for me” reasoning I have ever heard.

That statement is so wrong I don’t even know how to respond. I really don’t know how many times it has to be said that aim assist on controller is necessary because finer, precise movements are a lot more difficult than with a mouse which makes it harder to track targets. That’s really all it is. It’s not an unfair advantage, it’s a tool to improve the user experience. Sometimes there is too much, sometimes too little. I firmly believe Infinite has too little and creates a bad experience when I’m struggling to keep up with a bot let alone human players on M&K. However I can agree that there are other problems at play such as issues with deadzones, look acceleration and smoothing etc.

i think aim assist on controller needs a pretty huge buff
