Did Cortana have a fail-safe?
I think you’re going to have to elaborate on your question a bit buddy.
A failsafe in relation to what?
Like if she was captured/in the wrong hands, was there a fail-safe in place to take care of that, knowing she held important information.
If the lore from Halo CE is to be believed, then it doesn’t appear that there are any fail safes. At the very beginning of CE when Captain Keyes gives you Cortana for safe keeping it’s stated to be for the explicit purpose of keeping her safe from the enemy as she has such a ridiculous amount of sensitive information. Also, at the end of Halo 2 there was that scene with Cortana beginning to be interviewed by Gravemind.

It just seems odd not to have one. Plus I was poking around in Halo: First Strike and (from what a gathered) Dr. Halsey use a fail-safe on some of the AIs on Reach.
She probably has a failsafe similar to the Ai(forgot name) who was with Halsey on Reach.
If that isn’t the case, then Cole Protocol would probably initiate…

If you don’t mind, what is Cole Protocol?
Cole Protocol is the set of actions taken by human military forces whenever they come into contact with the Covenant. In short, all navigational data that if captured by the Covenant could lead them to Earth is destroyed in effort to keep Earths location secret from the enemy. It gets a little more complicated than that, but that’s the gist.
The thing is that from everything that I remember Cole Protocol isn’t ever something automatically initiated. It’s always ordered by humans and executed by humans. Think about it logically with me. If AIs automatically destroyed themselves, or even just intentionally crippled themselves, whenever Covenant forces were detected there wouldn’t be much point to having them. Cortanas initial sole purpose was to go with the Spartan IIs to capture a Covenant ship and locate the Covenant home world. It would be kinda pointless to bring her along if she figuratively self destructed the moment contact with the enemy was reached.
As far as Deja having a fail safe built into her, I dunno. It’s been years since I’ve read the books and I’ve just recently started to re-read them, and I’m only half way through The Flood.

Thanks for the info, and I just barely started reading them.
