AI Enemies in Forge?!?

When the new Doom released, everyone was comparing it’s SnapMap mode to Forge. And they are very similiar! You can have scripting, make map effects, but there is one HUGE difference. And I mean a difference so big, I’m not sure why it is’nt in Halo 5’s Forge at this very moment, and I hope it will be soon. I’m talking of course about AI controlled enemies!

Think of this. You create a huge map, with checkpoints, an elaborate story, things to do. Then you go to make it a challenge. The only way is to crazily design a huge boss that takes up half of the blocks you have! You need Elites, Grunts, Jackals, Brutes, Drones, Knights, Watchers, Sentinels, Crawlers, Soldiers, heck, even Wardens and Scarabs! It would increase the need for a file share of course, but that it coming soon. You could make your own missions in the Halo Universe. It would be incredible! Please, 343, make this a reality!!!

Unfortunately with forged maps there is no pathing for the AI to work with, they would simply be a stationary turret while on a forged map, not like that’s much of a change from how they behave now, in order to get AI to work in forged maps 343 would have to add an AI pathing script to the game, maybe similar to a trait zone/respawn area but placed over the whole of the playable area. The downside to this is for those who wish to add AI to their maps they would have to possibly wait up to 20 minutes for the pathing script to do its thing depending on how advanced the map is. Why 343 hasn’t done this at this point I’m not entirely sure, older games such as Team Fortress 2 have AI that can be added into a server, even on custom maps, once a simple pathing script is ran on the map the AI can play on most maps without any major issues. Hopefully 343 will add in a feature to add in forge-able AI and maybe even offline bot matches into H6 but I’m not going to get my hopes up.

If Forge did this, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Halo would have unlimited amounts of content.

Firefight + forge would be amazing.

cough super Mario maker cough cough

I’ve always wanted AI in forge, since Halo 3, but as others have already stated it would be a very difficult thing for both the devs and the player to do. I would love to see it in the future and I almost thought it would maybe be in Halo 5 but alas it is not. Also as someone has already said it would give endless amounts of content which would be awesome, imagine downloading a set of maps that literally give another campaign to play on.

Those enemies literally walk forwards until they hit something then turn around. Either that or follow the player around, hardly the same as an AI in a shooter.

AI would be so -Yoink- nice, theres so many times where i wanted to test out new assassinations whenever i wanted but i cant due to no AI pathing.

A.I. work fine in the new DOOM.

Because the maps in DOOM are prefabricated for AI to work in.

Our only chance is for 343 to make A.I. routes for their Arena maps, i.e. Truth, Rig, Plaza, etc… Unfortunately for Forge they wouldn’t be able to navigate thousands of stray pieces.

Isn’t SnapMap just snapping together prefabricated rooms and filling it with objects? Relatively speaking, that would be a lot easier to build AI into as opposed to Forge’s geometry creation.

You can still add walls, crates and what not to the levels. Besides my point was that the other person was talking about mario maker and it not being FPS, so I was giving an example that was. I could also say Far Cry 3 and 4 which have full map editors but I only mentioned DOOM because it’s recent. Also yes Halo would be harder to make but again that was not my point.
