I think it would be a lot cooler if the AI customization was more in depth.
Instead of having certain AIs, there should be “personalities” or “lines” that we can mix and match to create our own AI (can also have generic AIs for those who want a specific one).
Since AIs can’t be heard by other players, you are the only one who will hear them, so you could customize it however you want.
Every single line from the AIs you get for default are added into a “pool” of AI lines to choose from.
You can then enter an AI “editor” and pick and choose which ones you want the AI to use.
You can also choose the voice of the AI (Fret, Circ, Butler, Lumu, ect)
This gives more freedom of customization to the player (imo) and it also lets 343 add more AI lines that we can unlock and then customize with.
I’ve said before that the AIs need work, but I was referring to their appearance. I can’t stand that they all look like digital Flubbers.; just blobs of color. Why can’t they look more human like Cortana?
Someone told me that the lore states they are “Dumb AI”… but another person told me that in one of the books a dumb AI was described to have “resembled a Greek woman”.
I don’t read the books, so I don’t know…
But I do know that a blob of color always seemed like a cheap copout to me. Like they were gonna give us all these cool AIs, but didn’t have time so they just stuck in these blobs of color.
I don’t know what you mean or how I could make it any clearer.
Each AI has its own set of lines and tone of voice (Fret for example is energetic and like a teenager)
You can mix and match the lines and tones (personalities) to craft your very own AI.
I imagine its a case of minimum effort on 343’s part. Especially since they aren’t a highly visibe element in actual gameplay, making a bunch of animated humanoid models is a lot harder than just making some cute geomtery with a single color you can swap.
Honestly, I don’t line the idea odd mixing and matching different AI lines. The different sounding voices mixing in together on one AI don’t really feel right from a gameplay continuity context, or from a lore perspective, as AI have always had one distinct sounding voice that doesn’t change during the AI’s life.
I wouldn’t mind de-coupling the voice from the shape, and decoupling the shape from the face though.
So you could change the
Shape
Face
Color
Voice
Then you still get your “build an AI from scratch” outcome you’re looking for, without the weird audio of your AI switching how it sounds throughout the game. 343 could even split the color to internal/outline for even more customization.
